You can pretty much test this yourself by letting the CPU take hundreds of shots. Give it 99 Mid and 99 3PT, and look at the FG%. I can assure you the difference between just outside the line and just inside the line is going to be approximately 10-12%, which is significant.

Re: NBA 2k12 Ratings Reasonable Explanation
I thought I would oblige and test this.
I picked Ray Allen who in my superleague roster is mid 89, 3pt 89.
I honestly noticed little difference. I sucked at both of them in practice mode.
It felt the shot release was a little more forgiving in mid but the results seemed the same.
sorry I lost count because I stunk the court up.
the results felt the same when I lowered allens mid to 80.
I never play practice mode.
Ive played hundreds and hundreds of hours of this game and all other nba 2k games and have never noticed the discrepency anyway. but thats probably because I have significant knowledge of the NBA players games and play within their 'real life" styles.
Even if it is more forgiving the closer the range. [which is obvious anyway] this still doesnt mean that the majority of players should be rated higher in 3pt ratings than close or mid.
I would rather an emphasis on the players shooting strengths and weaknesses [which 2k have done well since the inception of inside/close seperation] than a more forgiving outside shot for all players.Last edited by nogster; 10-02-2011, 07:11 AM.Comment

Also last year on higher difficulties you had to up the 3pt slider now seeing stats from ppl playing on all star it looks good. Check it out and you might see that the 3pt% is not outrageous but just right, while last year, especially online it was deffo too low.“If you meet the Buddha in the lane, feed him the ball.”-Phil Jackson

Re: NBA 2k12 Ratings Reasonable Explanation
I guess only the game itself will tell whether this 3pt attribute scale raise helps or hinders the games simulation authenticity.
I dont know why I am whinging so much about this actually, because I only play single player so the scale raise wont really affect me [other than enticing me to take more 3's with players that shouldnt].
Its just at 1st glance the scale looks so off in comparison to prior incarnations.Comment

Re: NBA 2k12 Ratings Reasonable Explanation
I never play online so I am ignorant on the results there.
It seems 2k mustve adjusted the scale to appease the general community then.
I dont think it needed adjusting based on my personal experiences with the game.
"do you know that 3 point shots and midrange shots are treated differently in the game? Ray Alen in 2k11 had a sky high 3 point rating but it was still easier to hit open midrange shots with someone that had their mid rating in the 70s than to hit open 3s with Ray Alen. You really should know this ".
In 2k11 and 2k10. I have had accurate 3pt shooting results personally.
I do recall my teams always being at or near the bottom of the 3pt% leaderboard of the prior 2k games however. So..........I always dismissed that as being too hasty in taking 3's and over the years became smarter in my shot selection.Comment

Iggy's defense puts him over the top. Joe had a horrible shooting year as you said.Comment

Does anyone even know if 2K Insider is a real person. Maybe he is just a collective number of 2K workers that do ratings and they just attach that face that is on the game and label him as the 2K Insider.Comment

Re: NBA 2k12 Ratings Reasonable Explanation
Guys,
2K apparently uses STATS to generate the %'s and tendecies I would think. What none of us know is how the ratings/numbers correlate to the game this year yet. If 2K can break it down to %'s for example player A shoots a certain % open but contested shoots a different % and then you combine it all with how well they shoot from certain areas hot and cold zones which apparently STATS can track then they have everything to get realistic numbers based off the stats. I am not worried about players not playing realistic or making a realistic amount of shots.

Re: NBA 2k12 Ratings Reasonable Explanation
No that is not what those ratings are saying smh..... 2k defiinely has something going in the background. Because like I said. When I found out that Iverson had a med range of 70. I was completely shocked because if you left him open it was going down. And plus I bet you the other guys you mentioned don't have the same consistenty rating that BRoy and Kobe. Iverson was 99
Edit: Stop looking at the overall ratings or one single rating and comparing it to another players same rating. You need to look at the whole picture.Comment
