    Re: Defenders...not defending

If the man u r guarding gets a step on u your teammate is going to come off his man to help whoever is closest big or guard the only way to negate that is to stay in front of your man can't just push the steal button. I had problems with that to at first now I play sound d it?'s not a problem. Hope that helps.

Forget about the half court defense. I don't think my teams have ever seen a fastbreak before, because it sure seems like they can't defend that at all.

Yep, temmate defense is completely broken in this game. Nice effort 2K.

The only issue is that the farthest man from the ball will often needlessly rotate and help on a person in the paint for no real reason at all...a big issue, but should be an easy fix.

Actually, I think this year, the "hands up" defense is more effective than actually trying to block jump shots. I noticed that your opponent miss more shots with this defense than constantly trying for blocks. Anybody else noticed this?

I totally agree with you. I was practicing my D the whole night last night not minding whether I win or not. Anyway, I notice what you said above, BUT I must admit, I'm still having a hard time staying in front of players like Lebron and Wade.

They blow by me often even if a sag off a little bit. Then my teammates help. Then they pass to the open shooter at the 3-point line. Then I lose.

Agree with 24th, it's got 2K9 written all over it.

Rebounding isn't much better, in Wilt's legend game I wanted to see how he'd rebound if I didn't control him my second time through that match up. He finished with 1 rebound.

OK, it's comments like this that drive me nuts. I'll accept that there is room for improvement, but it is completely juvenile to say teammate defense is completely broken 3 days after the game is released.

First of all, defense ratings & defensive awareness DO and SHOULD have a significant impact. Shane Battier is a beast and I never have to worry about him leaving 3 point shooter open (unless I tell him to). I want to feel the difference between elite defenders and lazy ones.

As some people have been saying in this thread, have you all been using the VAST number of defensive settings/strategies at your disposal? The Strategies (lock down paint, pressure shooters) is a great start and helps tremendously to force the CPU to try something different on offense.

If that's not enough, that's why we have defensive settings. Tell your men defending the shooters to Play tight, deny ball, fight over screens etc. Your teammates who are guarding poor shooters can sag off and help if they need to.

Please, please... everyone take some time to get used to the new strategies/settings before claiming the defense is broken. It's only been a few days and I've already seen a significant improvement since I've been using these features more appropriately.

                        This.

Im starting to think that 2K devs have overrated their fans. They gave you everything you need, made the most challenging game ever, with the deepest gameplay i've ever experienced and all people do is complain how hard it is after only 2 or 3 days of playing the game. This game will take month to master.

2K has a made a non casual game, go to practice, ask questions, but stop complaining over everything. Isn't it a good thing not outscoring your opponent by 15 every game from day one?

                        Come on guys.

e/ Sorry if i'am a little off topic.

Went into a post practice with bynum against bosh, and bosh proceeded to rip me apart with turnaround fades when I pressed the jump button. At one point he hit 6 in a row. It wasn't as bad when I just stayed down and used L2 or right stick. I have a feeling its because my jump is too ealry, even though bynum is already in the air and in boshs face, it doesnt register as a deterrent like the hands up.

Yea it happens to me as well. I've turned all the double teams to never but they still leave their defender. This causes me to consistently have to switch players. I do believe that they will fix this in a patch though!

There are options at your disposal if you don't want people to leave shooters. You can select the "Guard shooters" option in the quick strategy thing. You can also manually go into defensive assignments and select "Play tight" on off-ball for the good shooters.

And you just have to accept that sometimes shooters are going to be open. Play the percentages.

                                Ahh the little things.

Pretty much echo everyone else's thoughts. Help defense is terrible and so is the overall intelligence of your teammates. Don't know how many times my teammate has switched off a pick then left him to come back and cover the guy I switched to. If I follow, then it leaves the guy open on the perimeter and if I stay, it gives them an easy layup.
