First of all, defense ratings & defensive awareness DO and SHOULD have a significant impact. Shane Battier is a beast and I never have to worry about him leaving 3 point shooter open (unless I tell him to). I want to feel the difference between elite defenders and lazy ones.

As some people have been saying in this thread, have you all been using the VAST number of defensive settings/strategies at your disposal? The Strategies (lock down paint, pressure shooters) is a great start and helps tremendously to force the CPU to try something different on offense.

If that's not enough, that's why we have defensive settings. Tell your men defending the shooters to Play tight, deny ball, fight over screens etc. Your teammates who are guarding poor shooters can sag off and help if they need to.

Please, please... everyone take some time to get used to the new strategies/settings before claiming the defense is broken. It's only been a few days and I've already seen a significant improvement since I've been using these features more appropriately.
What new settings? Last time I checked man-to-man defense means staying with your man, not sagging off Ray Allen to randomly help Joakim Noah guard Jeff Green.

Defense is broken and it's all to due with a combination of non-existent teammate AI and the fact the opponent AI will almost literally not miss an open shot. I saw LMA hit a three today because he was open. Game is busted.

I'm sorry you don't have standards and need to damage control for a developer, but some of us aren't so shameless.

Yeah, the defense is messed up this year. The fastbreak logic is especially awful, as the AI will NEVER get back on defense.

You clearly know little to nothing about basketball every post you write makes it more obvious you want to do little to no work to get a win, I will suggest watching a few games on NBA TV.

People actually believe players stay with their man like glue in modern NBA defenses? That's just a recipe for layups all around.

This is actually... fairly common if you watch an NBA game, but I agree they need to be more selective about who they help off of.

i agree, but the role players in the nba dont hit 3's at the same rate they do in 2k12 lol

I never said anything about winning. I lost all the time in NBA 2K11 with its nowhere-near-as-busted defense. Reading comprehension is hard for you I guess.

What I want is an even playing field. Down's syndrome teammates and cheating opponent AI doesn't do that.

My biggest defensive problem would probably go under defensive awareness. If u don't tell the cpu who to guard, u end up with bad mismatches like Derek Fisher guarding Al Jefferson deep in the paint..

SO how it is that I along with others are not having the same issues, 2K gave you all you need to stop anyone if you choose not to use it then don't come complaining about defense or players leaving others at the perimeter.

Sooo, in the nba players just randomly back off their man for no reason and let them take 3s right?

So there is no reason, that is BS man, people only tend to notice the final shot and not what lead to it, you see a man at the three point line wide open but you never looked to see what happened to the defender, did he get picked, did he leave his man because he had to cut off the path of another offensive player who beat his man, basketball is a sequence of events screens, picks, cuts nothing is as simple as some of you are trying to make it out to be.

just found this last night...never even knew this was there...My question is do you have to set this every play or does it stick once you set it...i'm guessing every play

No it's stay the way you set it until you set it to - back to default tactic or set another one.

I dont know why everyone gets so worked up on this board. Somebody says something is wrong with a game suddenly he's such a wimp. I actually agree with both sides on this. It takes team defense to get stops as it should However, the a.i. for my teammates is not as good as the cpu. I play as the bulls and I am not a cheeser. I play simulation style ball. I dont mind losing or giving up open looks every now and then but as the bulls that shouldnt happen as often as it does in this game. I understand they wanted to reward people for playing on-ball defense all the time but when the cpu is constantly passing and I'm steady switching it puts me out of position. So there's times when i need to let my computer teammates play on-ball D and feel comfortable trusting them. The Bulls have active bigs in Noah, Gibson, and Asik. But when the ballhandler comes in the paint they just kinda stand there. Not all the time but more than they should. I know Im gonna hear 'oh, you just complaining. You need to practice.' It's not that at all. I love this game but that doesnt mean it dont need a touch-up in a few areas. I get stops on D and I'm not saying I should get stops every single play but there should be more contested shots since I'm using the Bulls..........and the flaming begins lol
