Exactly what i've been saying, it's too random. At the very LEAST, they should make it so that factors increase the chance of you getting an animation where they grab the ball by a certain percentage. As of right now though, it's all over the place.

And i agree about whoever mentioned the suction animations, i almost forgot about that. I've watched replays where i've seen lebron sprinting to the rim for a rebound, he suddenly stops and slides/gets sucked behind jj redick, when he's like 3 feet away! I've always said that 2k needs to cut down on the animations a lot, less animations more control.

The main reason I couldn't beat the 94/95 Magic was because my ai teammates refused to box out Shaq or fight hard enough for the ball - and we're talking Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason here. I get that he was a force on the glass, but you had to see these games to believe them. If they missed, it didn't matter because Shaq was either coming down with the board or slamming it straight back in. Even when I did manage to box him out, I would often slightly miss-time my jump or the rebounding animation would just miss the ball.

I agree. This happens ALL the time. By far my number one (and maybe only) gripe with this game. It is SO annoying.

Anyone else here CONSTANTLY getting out rebounded offensively by the cpu??

Played a game today and got out rebounded 13-6

Are you guys playing with player lock on or off? Or does that not make a difference.

Re: Rebounding in 2k12 needs to be fixed

To me it feels a lot like last years, which is not a good thing.

The CPU teams are simply much more aware of the rebounds and scoop them up with really good accuracy, and are far more tenacious. I've watched a rebound get bounced back up into the air 3+ times in a scrum with 1 CPU player vs. 3 of mine, with the CPU player eventually getting the ball for a putback.

Of course this sort of thing will result in more 2nd chance points...I'm all for having a challenging game but I've never understood why they have to aim to do so in aspects of the sport that are ... kinda routine, like getting defensive rebounds. There's no reason why teams that I'm using should be so inept at it.

The CPU's players are also a lot quicker and more alert in gathering other types of loose balls like steals or tips. I stopped stealing since it usually resulted in a loose ball that the computer would gather instantly and drive a now open lane while my stealer is caught in a canned stumble animation or out of position otherwise.

I -get- that you need to give the computer edges in certain departments but it really ought not to be in such glaring ones like that -- there's no way this sort of thing isn't just frustrating to most people.

And to preemptively counter the usual argument "This sort of thing happens in real-life basketball!" -- NOT to this degree of frequency that I've ever witnessed :P

Gotta love trying to rebound, having the ball bounce off your face and out of bounds.

I've watched the NBA for many years, I can't say I've ever seen that actually happen.

Re: Rebounding in 2k12 needs to be fixed

I think the primary problem is that the rules that apply to player-controlled players don't apply to CPU-controlled ones. This goes for the CPU rebounders on your team as well; when you're controlling the entire team, the CPU players on your team stand a better chance at successfully rebounding than whatever player you're controlling does. When you're playing with player-lock or in MyPlayer, you're pretty much outta luck.

CPU players will never mis-time a jump or have their hands in the wrong position to catch the ball, while you most certainly will.

I play a 7' Athletic PF in MyPlayer, with the presumably relevant attributes all maxed out plus the purchased cap raises (think vertical is 99, Off Rebound is 95, Def Rebound is 99 -- been raising Hustle to no effect). With that said, I still have a hard time grabbing more than 5-7 total rebounds per game (All-star/Simulation) while Grant Hill and Vince Carter usually pull down around 8-10 each, just while I'm on the floor. It's especially annoying when Steve Nash is able to pluck a rebound from the air immediately in front of my guy's face (or stomach, as the case may be) that has breezed past his hands. If ratings don't solve this, I don't think anything an end-user could do possibly can.

Put simply, CPU reactions trump player-controlled reactions because they're working with a different rule set. Last year they greatly fixed the rebounding in a patch -- minus the box-out-lockout -- so hopefully they can this year as well.

In association mode has anyone tryed to reduce the AI's rebounding attributes?

I get out rebounded by quite a lot every game using the Lakers.

Re: Rebounding in 2k12 needs to be fixed

I have to agree there needs to be a random factor as where the rebounds come off the rim. Rebounding across the board should be live but it seems predetermined for the most part. Right now the boards are pretty much landing in the middle of the lane and your player may get it. It was an idea I suggested in the wishlist and other people as well. Rebounding is a skill, there are too many guards coming in grabbing boards, there are no tap outs, no long rebound no second jumps for the player who shot a contested layup. If you are playing non player lock and you guard the jump shot there isn't time always to switch to the forward or center to box out or crash. Great offense and defense rebounders should have already done this as soon as the shot went up. There are also too many players crashing the boards sometimes and in general the CPU is winning the rebounding.

The more i watch replays the more i keep seeing stuff wrong with the rebounding, has anybody noticed how the ball like warps/gets sucked into a players hands sometimes on rebounding despite their positioning? So annoying.

I have set the CPU team's rebounding sliders to 5 points lower than mine to create more of a balance. Sometime rebounding goes in my favor sometimes in theirs, I need to play more before I can tell if this setting was a good idea.

That's because some of the ball liveliness was taken away with the patch. Ever noticed how you can dribble into teammates without losing the ball now? Or how there are less tip drills when fighting for rebounds? All of that was there at launch but not now. If you delete the patch and play, then redownload the patch and play, you'll see and feel the difference almost immediately.
