Know what I think it might be for some/most of you? Hedge defense.

Most gamers don't touch Hedge settings which leaves them all at Auto. If the ball goes into the post and the CPU decides to Strong Hedge or Double then you're going to leave shooters open.

I will try this and see if it helps.

However, I don't think it is an excuse to even program this logic into the game. If it was EA it'd be one thing, and expected. But 2k knows basketball, and this is just COMPLETELY unsound defense. Don't understand why it would even be in the game.

Hedge setting is for how you're defending a dribbler behind a screen which isn't the real issue here.

This wasn't a problem last year once it was patched. In what way does that constitute "no effort?" Should you just ignore all the attempts to give the user control this year on defense? The modification of some control schemes to eliminate the "cheese" people experience head to head?

Again - you're confusing an oversight with effort. Being someone so "new" here I'd suggest you try to analyze your comments a bit more thoroughly before making them because you're severely off the mark.

You're stretching things a bit. Like the previous poster - I'm just as bothered by things like this as you guys but you seriously take things a bit too far.

If it bothers you that much, move on instead of posting about it in the forums day in and day out and how you "can't believe they would do something like this."
You're first paragraph didn't even attempt to make an argument, all you did was say that my comment was ignorant without explaining why, and said that i was wrong(again without even explaining). Makes me doubt you have a good argument.

If this was patched last year why the hell wouldn't they learn from their mistakes and not have it in the game to begin with? And yeah i will ignore the attempts(not very successful attempts, a) to give the user control on defense because it doesn't matter when a huge flaw like this exist. Players just randomly deciding to just leave their man open for no reason completely negates any of these new defensive schemes and attempts to have more control on defense because you simply DON'T have control when a player just leaves their man wide open for no reason. Crap like that can throw your whole defense out of whack, and mess up your defensive rhythm.

This leaves questions, how the hell would something as important as basic defense be overlooked? And why is this even in the game when the same problem happened 3 years ago? How was this not noticed? Sounds like a pretty incompetent thing to do. Again throwing around the "you're new here" argument doesn't work and has no bearing on my actual argument(or discrediting it), try a different tactic. I wouldn't advise anyone to analyze their comments before posting when you make comments like this. As a matter of fact that paragraph was completely pointless because you didn't add anything to your argument except basically saying "think before you post, because you're wrong".

Hell, why not i'll respond to what you said to the other guy too.

I don't think that was much of an exaggeration. It's really not AS sim as it claims to be. I don't think complaining about a product you paid for that has problems is taking it too far at all.

Why shouldn't the poster voice their opinion and problems with the game? Sometimes people like to talk about things that frustrate them, what's wrong with that? I mean if that's the case, i could just say " if people voicing their complaints and problems about 2ksports/2k12 why don't you just move on and stop responding to the comments they make on forums?" See what i did there?

The thing you have to realize is that it's annoying to see a good basketball game lower itself due to stupid flaws like this. It would be like getting a nice car and then seeing that the car itself is nice, but it has a popped tire a cracked window, some dents and scratches, and messed up brakes. Yeah the car itself may be a nice model, but it's problems kind of mess it up. You definitely wouldn't enjoy driving it as much as you could, or in 2ks case playing the game as much as you could. When you release a game, a product for 60 bucks and it has a bunch of stupid frustrating problems, I(the consumer) have a right to be annoyed and call 2k out on problems with their product that i paid for. There are problems that need to be fixed.

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

Well I managed to make my team not leaving shooters open with setting help D to 0, all shooters on play tight and putting all the doubling to never. With this settings they never let the shooter open for me. BUT this is not the solution, I would love to play the CPU with different tactics not always the same. Its all right for the perimeter but now I can defend the paint only one on one which is not realistic. Maybe for 2k13 have a setting for each player for "never leave the specific player alone". The problem also is the mid and 3pt sliders, since the same thing hapened in 2k11 but shooters would still miss even excellent ones and completely open. Hopefully all will be adressed in the patch.

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

I really don't understand why are you complaining.

                    You have different defensive settings:
1.) Off-ball defense -> set "Deny Ball if you don't want your defender to leave his matchup to help others
2.) On-ball defense: -> set "Tight defense" to close gap between your defender and his matchup
3.) If you set double team for Dwight Howard and "Deny ball" for Richardson, then your player who is defending Richardson will not go doubling Howard.

Ugh - another terrible analogy. Seems to be contagious by those that have a beef with something.

If you can't be bothered to read what was written that's on you. You can be selective and ignore the rebuttal to your repeated claims of "incompetence" (which will soon be marked for trolling if you don't stop repeating yourself) and find a better way to frame your argument as others have.

You can ignore everything you'd like as it seems to be the norm with you; "You didn't say anything so I'm right, you're wrong." Perhaps if you took a moment to get off your soapbox you'd see the quality comments coming from other posters that have an equal balance of good and bad - those capable of recognizing the positives AND negatives that have been introduced (or re-introduced) this year.

I'd ask that you address what people are posting instead of dismissing it. And if you can't understand what people are posting, ask for some help instead of acting like no one on this forum aside from those that constantly bitch and moan know what's being discussed. That attitude will get you off these boards - and quickly.

Re: Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

I was setting my D assignments. Whether to double, plat tight, deny & so on. I accidently scrolled over & found the other options such as hedge & go under screen etc.... I knew nothing of this! Was it listed in the online manual? It helps with guys maintaining their assignments.

I can understand how to "fix" these issues for YOUR players, but what's the fix for the computer doing it?

Every time I throw into the post, they always have a help defender just come down and just stand in the middle of the paint. It's just odd. I mean, they sometimes leave good shooters just sitting wide open. But, if you're going to come down to help, then help. I don't see a point to just literally walking down to the paint only to just stand there 5 feet away from the post for 5-6 seconds and then walk away. It's just like the video on the first page.

I noticed this too, I know in the real NBA players will do this sometimes to just make the post player believe he may come double team them, but 2K12 seems to do this alot.

But at least they're doing something in real life. In 2K, their "help" defender just acts like he has nothing better to do. I play as the Rockets against the Cavs. I throw it into Scola against Jamison and Chuck Hayes clears out. Well, it's good the Varejo is not going to go out a guard Hayes since he can't shoot. But, he'll just casually walk into the paint and stand there acting like there is nothing going on. He doesn't double on Scola, he doesn't even get close. If I wait long enough, he'll hurry out so to not get a Def. 3 Sec. call or I'll back down and even into Varejo and he still doesn't do anything. It's just odd. Or, I'll throw it down to Scola and Someone like A Parker sags down into the paint to do the same thing and completely leaves Kevin martin open. I mean, "Gee, thanks for the open shot." but they play the whole situation really dumb.

On a side note, when getting a pick against the computer, how come their help defender ALWAYS jumps out to prevent the ball-handler to even breath? I mean, you go and try and use the pick and you're just stone-walled unless you veer way out and around the big man. Also notice, when you call for a pick one one side of the floor, the computer will just leave someone completely open on the other side, good shooter or not.
