Re: Why So much hate ?
I have to co-sign this topic. It's the best sports game I've ever owned. I'm not a fan boy of any game. . . never have been but this game has too much to offer and can keep you entertained for hours if you have time to spare like that. It does have it's share of problems and really deserves a break until we find out from the developers exactly what issues will be addressed and when.
For the most part the majority of the issues I had early on I've found answers to. I have not ventured Online yet, started Association or My Player until some of the issues I've read about get resolved and I get to play with REAL rookies but... unfortunately that's not going to happen until all the Lockout BS is over, who knows when that will be. I do have an awesome custom roster I'm using with real rookie cyber faces that will keep me going along with some tweaked sliders.
I understand some people have posted legitimate gripes and have done so constructively but for others constantly crying the game is broken or b!tching because you can't do dunks, lay-ups or defend there are a few practice modes and not to mention a training mode so get familiar and stop crying the games is broken. If it's so broken as you describe in your topic(s) then stop playing it, trash-it and move-on. It's just that simple while some of us who are enjoying the game so far patiently await word on the patch and issues the developers plan to addressWhere they DO that? ? ?Comment

Re: Why So much hate ?
Yeah not really getting all the gameplay complaints. 1 week after the game drops and people are on the forums saying everything's the game's fault instead of actually trying to adjust. No one's going to be an expert in one week, two weeks, or maybe months.
In 2K11 you were stuck in canned animations. 2K12 there is more control. Those who know how to play defense probably enjoy 2k12. 2K12 is not for those who like to play zone all game, double team all game, etc. In my experience, wide open shots go in and true contested shots miss. I could care less if someone goes 10-15 from 3's if 1. they have a good ratings 2. they were open shots. Open shots should go in as a reward for taking smart shots.
As far as Online, that's what deserves full criticism. No crew, no pickup, questionable servers again. 2K11 is a better overall game because it was a more complete game with more features. That's undeniable.
BTW those saying online is cheese or just kids or what not, that's just not true. Like it or not, online crew is the most "sim" framework you can find because it reflects playing in a game irl. I know a lot of OSers would like to think this, but there's nothing inherently sim about controlling 5 players vs a static, mundane, redundant CPU. Sports is about human competition in real life, and online reflects that.Comment

Re: Why So much hate ?
Seems like there's no convincing people.
It looks like I got the only GOOD Copy of the game on the planet , or people make it seem that way.
I don't know if I bought a different copy than everyone else, or what... But every problem I had with the game (I'm an offline gamer) Has been fixable with game sliders or settings.
It makes me slam my head against a wall every time I see "2k11 is better than 2k12" Hah. No. Not even close people.
My only gripe about the game is My Player , They have an amazing idea here. The only problem is instead of fixing the stupid A.I. , They just add more and more gimmicks and little features that have nothing to do with the gameplay itself.
But I usually play Association more than anything anyway so... I guess I'll keep going up to bat for this game, but no one seems to see how great it is, and i never understand why.
Maybe It's my Larry Bird Cover.
im wit you playa, i love tha game its all i play. my only problem is no rookies. but that's not enuff to make me want to take tha game back!Comment

I take it all back -- in Association and even the legend challenges, this game is off the charts. I don't see half the hickups that I have in MP. Players play like their real life counterparts and the game shows up with some real sophistication and intelligence. It's been like night and day.
I actually created my team that I took into the Association, but for the most part, my line-up is almost all the Toronto Raptors. I did create an 80 ranked Center, an 84 ranked Point Guard and a Superstar Shooting Guard who comes in at 94, but with the exception that I dumped Jose Calderon for T.J. Ford (an exchange of 69 rated PG's) the rest of the team is unaltered from the Barneys.
I love using Andrea Bargnani the way he is best utilized -- as a floor spreading big who tosses in daggers from three when I need them.
Coming off a game where DeMar DeRozen only scored 10 points, but had a highlight reel play where he lulled his defender and then exploded baseline for a rim-rattling jam with the And-1, while celebrating over a fallen defender who stepped in to stop him -- well it was awesome.
I couldn't get over how much more fluid the game is in Association mode. The feel of ball-handling with a skilled dribbler like T.J. Ford was a revelation for me. Today, NBA 2K12 made me put Arkham City down and not even look at it again -- my house was where AMAZING happened...
No more hate from this guy...
Have fun....Basketball made me the man I am today; Arthritic and Bitter...
What I think I think:
• Y'know, I've never played less NBA 2K than I did with NBA 2K12
• Sports VG titles were REALLY disappointing in 2011-12
• Thank Heaven for ME3 and Arkham City -- saved my winterComment

Re: Why So much hate ?
One other thing -- I downloaded the Rookie Roster created by members of OS and those players are included in my Association set-up. Jonas Valanciunas is playing like a gangly big straight of the boat, just like he ought to. For the members who did the work on that roster -- VERY nice job, people -- well done.

Your gripe is valid because it's yours and other issues are "fixable", or you can look past it, yet other gripes people have are not valid.
That mentality is garbage.Comment

Re: Why So much hate ?
Honestly, if I had posted my impressions a week ago, I would've definitely fell into the 'complaining' camp because of various issues that I was having. From the numerous amounts of turnovers, to the isomotion, to the post game...... I had to seriously quarantine myself and in some cases, completely depart with many of my NBA 2K techniques and habits that I developed over the years of playing this series, which had garnered me a great deal of success both off and online (mainly offline). What this meant for me was:
-No more pick & roll heavy offenses (must expand & make use of the entire playbook),
-No more bumping a defender with my ball handler, then handing it off to a teammate for an open 3,
-No more relying primarily on the CPU during crutch time to get me defensive stops (literally & figuratively had to man up when playing this game),
-No more blindly going for steals & blocks (one false move and you're out of position; whether it be against a human opponent or the A.I since they make use of pump fakes and flick flicks).
-No more doing isomotion moves until I can get the defender "rock" one way so I can go the other, which use to open up a bevy of options for me.
-No more predicting the human OR the A.I playcalling due to the new branched playcalling system (also, the player's movement when calling a play is much more crisp, fluid, and their moving with a purpose, which is to either score themselves or to be a 'decoy' of some sorts while their teammates score. I can't tell you how many times I thought a play was designed for a superstar player, and I wounded up getting completely burned by their 'role player' teammates).
-No more could I rely on the conservationist of the A.I, or the game's natural pace for that matter, while I get my entire team back up court for a set defensive possession (the fastbreak can be lethal if in the right hands. I.E. the CPU.)
-No more half court heaves by the CPU inbounder if I put even a little pressure on the opposition's PG during late game situations which led to a turnover a lot of the time and had given me opportunities to get back into the game.
These are just a few examples of things that I had to personally get rid of after over a decade in some cases of these being successful things that had worked for me in prior NBA 2K titles that are no longer "guarantees of success" in 2K12. My very first game was against the Raptors (randomized opponent) using the Hornets & that ended turning into a series of its own in quick games because I simply could not beat the lowly Raptors. Turnover after Turnover, Calderon making my defense look as if its mired in mud, Klieza being left wide open for 3's as my CPU teammates try to cover for me after being burned by Calderon & Bayless. I got absolutely pounded on the boards; to make a long story a shorter, everything within the first few games of me playing it, pretty much went wrong (BTW, I've played all of my games offline on Allstar/Sim).
I came here to post my concerns as to how I felt the gameplay may have taken a turn for the worst overall, but then I came across some helpful posts and threads, and decided to put those tips & resources to use as I delved deeper into the intricacies and the nuisances of this game.... And I'm here to say that NBA 2K12 is a hell of a game. This game could seriously cross into the realms of being a strategy based game in addition of being a sports simulation. Everything from the playbooks, to the defensive modifiers while guarding a given ball handler, to the coaches profile (shot out to Czar on that latest gem), to being able to decide whether to hedge (soft/hard) and go over/under screens all are what makes this game fall into a more strategy based experience. I was playing the Kings last night and I decided to 'sag off' of Tyreke Evans while going under the screens that were set for him. Well, 15 points in the first quarter later on 6/8 shooting made me change my strategy right there on the fly; never have I ever had to be literally on top of my game not only in terms of my gameplay skills, but also the strategy that I implore each & every game. And the thing is, my strategy must continuously change because the teams all take advantage of their strengths, star and role players.
I shouldn't have to state the obvious here that I know the game isn't perfect, far from it actually. I seriously detest the delayed passing, and that's amplified by the fact that the A.I plays the passing lanes damn near perfect every possession. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that passing is the worst part of the game for me overall in general. Also, I don't like the fact that bigs can keep up and guard a player like CP3 and stop him from penetrating into lane; size in this instance should NOT be a positive attribute, but it is in my experience and I end up passing the ball to one of my bigs in the post who have a smaller guard on them due to the switch. Still that isn't a remedy to my problem because CP3 eats PF's and C's for lunch on switch offs. I haven't experienced the offline lag in my last couple of games, but a few days after the patch dropped, I did experience some slow downs during gameplay and it was given me an headache. Hopefully I don't have to deal with that anytime soon. As far as problems that I have cosmetically; as I said before on here, they need to fix Chris Paul's mug since they have the ability to edit art within the game.
Also, this gripe is admittedly small, but it irks me when I'm recording gameplay. Why must they persist on not being able to make the orange indicator underneath players in replay mode disappear like in years past? I was hoping that it was patched in into 2K11 and it never was like was the case with 2K10. Now, I have to deal with the orange indicator again when recording with my capture device, or use reelmaker, which I never been a fan of due to how the graphics look a bit skewed in there
Having said all that (my gripes), NBA 2K12 is an excellent game that I think could be even better with a combination of a patch (executed right of course), the launch of NBA2k.com, players, accessories and other cosmetic updates, and finally, the end of the NBA lockout, which will unlock its fair share of content. This game is loaded, and while I do think some things can be better explain by the makers of the game itself, if they were to explain everything, we'd be looking at a game that would've had to come with a strategy guide as oppose to the prototypical game booklet. For those struggling with the game (gameplay) and actually are trying to enjoy it. I advise looking around here on O.S. for help. This site has help me immensely in terms of helping me enjoy NBA 2K12 and the little things that aren't visible without a closer inspection.
I admittedly have not touched 'My Player', so I don't know what's going on on that front. As far as online, I haven't played a bunch online, but the few times that I did play, I was able to complete full games with some connection drops during gameplay in between.
NBA 2K12 is a keeper in my book. Again, just clean up some of the obvious problems with the game via patch while trying steer away from the many subjective proposals....

Re: Why So much hate ?
What you have to understand is what you like or find reasonable may not be reasonable to someone else, and when compared to last years title, may be worse, or viewed as a step back. If it's fine by you doesn't mean you should disregard or shrink someone else's views on the subject.
Just because you think stuff is fine doesn't make it fine - it just makes it fine for you.
That said, I still agree that in a lot of aspects the game is much better than last years title, but I will not overlook the huuuuuge glaring issues it still has, and they are a lot more than myplayer trade logic. A whole lot more.Comment

Re: Why So much hate ?
What I'm saying is that in your first post you express how you like the game and most things are "fixable" via sliders, so as a result that makes the game pretty frickin' awesome. Your only gripe (not fixable by sliders) is an actual issue, in your opinion.
