    2k11 vs 2k12

(this is my first post, although I've been lurking the forums for like 6 months)I've been playing 2k12 since November now, and I decided to switch back to 2k11. Looking back, there is so much more to offer in 2k11. 2k12 adds things to My Player and adds the NBA's greatest mode, but the gameplay just doesn't compare.

The presentation is probably the one thing 2k12 has on 2k11. The player models and graphics look pretty much the same in both games, although 2k11 looks a little lighter IMO. The big intros for games that 2k12 has isn't as broadcast like as 2k11's is. 2k11 shows players coming into the arena, coaches talking in the locker room, players in the locker room, things you'd see during a real NBA broadcast.

Presentation isn't that important though. It's the gameplay that changes things.

2k11 feels smooth, the fast players are faster than the slow players, the players with a higher vertical can leap higher than the players who can't jump as high, wide open shots are made, contested shots are made at a reasonable rate, players play like themselves.

2k12 feels clunky, there is no differential in athleticism at all, wide open shots are often missed, contested shots are made more often then they should, and players play out of their games.

Another kind of irrelevant thing is 2k11's stamina bar is much easier to read than 2k12's is

My Player mode may start you with a higher level player and give you more options for advertising yourself and your charisma and stuff, and the lead up to the draft may be more in depth, but the gameplay is not. In 2k12, I often find myself demanding the ball, because my teammates(ie Nate Robinson) will do iso dribbling moves until the clock runs down, when they pull up.

In 2k11, your teammates(while still not brilliant) will give you the ball if you're open. Fast breaks also feel much smoother in 2k11.

A serious issue I run into with 2k12(which is really the gamebreaker for me) is a huge framerate lag during My Player and sometimes Association. Around my 5th or so game in My Player, the framerate began to get terrible. It was impossible to play(on Xbox btw). I have never run into that problem with 2k11.

Also, I may just not be observant, how do you run anything other than the basic plays(quick pick and roll, iso, post up, get open) in 2k12? The play calling(pre patch) was so much easier in 11! Adding to that, the pick and roll in 2k12 is absolute garbage.

And who's brilliant idea was it to take out many of the Blacktop options and put in the Legends Showcase?

The NBA's Greatest is a very fun mode, and is probably the best draw of the entire game. Although there are too many Lakers (I'm from Boston )

    Re: 2k11 vs 2k12

i played yesterday night to nba 2k11, with bulls 91 vs lakers 91 it was so perfect
i played in level pro, (in nba 2k12 i used to play in HOF) so i was very strong against the lakers and i played very well.
but i noticed that system are very easy to choose contrary to 2k12, and gameplay, graphics are more real. I saw all the veins of jordan on his strong-arms, it was so impressiv.

    good good feeling yesterday night!

i add there are more triangle system for classics bulls.

and we can see Phil Jackson!!!!

nba 2k13 could be as 2k11 i think

2K12 is the better game. The post game is actually fun, passing/fastbreaks are much improved....

passing is one of the worst things in the game and the post play needs to be changed so only good post guys IRL are successful. I shouldnt have to worry about andrew bynum hitting hakeem like post moves in a game.

Yeah, but it's still better than 2k11's. It was impossible to get a good fastbreak in 2k11.

The AI is smarter too. They draw fouls better.

It's funny to see how some of this forum need to make this sort of comparison. I get the 360 vs. PS3, Microsoft vs. Apple, Coke vs. Pepsi. But there are some that don't make much sense - NCAA vs. Madden for example. I've seen some try to make the argument one is great and the other sucks. They're made by the same developer. While they're different, at their core they're the same.

The 2K11 vs. 2K12 argument makes even less sense. It's not like 2K12 is some radical divergence from 2K11. The same dev team you praise for their work in 2K11 is the same one you're faulting in regards to every game aspect in 2K12. Oops, other than presentation because it's practically perfect in 2K12. But of course to you "presentation really isn't important" because you couldn't give them credit for anything positive regarding 2K12.

                  To the OP,

Agree with what you're saying to an extent, but the cutscenes you mention missing are in fact there - the intro to each game is unique, but you still get shots of coaches, teams warming up, and players walking into the arena.

I understand what you are saying, but it's a reasonable comparison considering how much the two games are different. The presentation is not that important.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking.I hate seeing the logic behind these threads it makes me want to give myself a face plant. When 2k13 comes out we will see topics saying that 2k12 is leaps and bounds better than 2k13 and no one will mention 2k11.

2k12 is the better game or you would have traded it in a long time ago... end of story.

I heard everyone complaining about 2K12.....So I kept 2K11. Been playing it religiously since it came out. Finally, last week I decided to give 2K12 a shot. I'm disappointed that I waited so long!!!

Simply put, 2K12 is BETTER than 2K11. Both are solid games but everything (besides the menu in time-out) is better in 2K12. It's so fluid.

I haven't had this much fun with an NBA game in a long time!

So ya'll are cool with the point guards throwing up those crazy pump-fakes in the paint?

That doesn't drive you crazy? I'm honestly asking.

No because we actually downloaded awesome rosters that prevented that.
