IF the 2k Insider is 1 person and does all the Ratings and Tendencies his self THEN yes he needs to Vastly improve in 2k13. I mean the Tendencies are HORRIBLE for Bigmen and Guards. I have NOT looked at ANY updates since they came out of the box for 2k12. You cant tell he spent time doing Tendencies when you have Bigmen doing Crossover Dribbles and shooting 3's. I COMPLETELY revamped all Attributes, Abilities, Tendencies and Hot Spots for EVERY player in my rosters. I am NOT saying my work is Better, but I do take the time to make sure Bigmen play like Bigmen and Guards play like Guards.

You're being humble. Even if all you did was tweak some tendencies, your work is better. My work is better. youALREADYknow's work is better. Hawk23's work is better. If we could get REDitor released soon after the launch of 2k13, we wouldn't need the the 2kInsider.

I literally played one half when 2k12 came out when I realized I had to change EVERYTHING. Tendencies/coaching profiles/ratings/hot spots/hot zones/capabilities, everything. It was a lot of work but it completed changed the game for 100's, if not 1,000's of people.

Re: Is the NBA 2K Insider a joke?

I remember somewhere Ronnie said that the Insider started about 3 years ago. If my memory serves me correctly, that is around the time 2k started using STATS LLC for their 3rd party data (to match Live who started using Synergy Sports around the same time). Perhaps he is a contractor, consultant, or analyst that 2k hired from them to work. Just a theory....

Either way, there is 3 questions at hand:
        1) Does he have a good understanding of basketball...enough to understand the data, but also understand when data is taken out of context (e.g. Paul George might have a lower rank in on ball defense compared to other SG's according to the raw data, but Paul George many times has to guard the point guard for the other team, thus deserves special consideration).
        2) Does he understand the game formulas and how to transform the raw data correctly to get desired results in the game?
        3) Does he have enough time/resources to provide adequate attention to each and every player?

My money is that the problems we see are mostly arising from #2 and #3, with a combination of pressures from outside sources (e.g. Jeremy Lin getting a lot more attention than other players).

If he is real, does the 2k Insider look like Cartoon Stephen A. Smith and speak in awkward, 'trying-too-hard' urban slang? Does he say quotes from basketball legends around the office then say, "Ha-ha, I love that!"?

Re: Is the NBA 2K Insider a joke?

.i think the ratings and tendencies are geared more toward making the game/players a 'funner' experience. for example, starks off of the 95 knicks has a 3pt rating of 94. waaay too high for a streaky shooter like john. but when you think back to that team, you think of ewing dominating the post and kicking it out to an open starks for the triple.

a lot of ratings may be off as far as when compared to real stats, but like i said i think it's geared toward making the game a better experience for the casual player. it is a video game, after all.

edit: either that or the players made 2k agree to jack up their rating(s) in-game. i always wondered why bill cartwright has his own signature fadeaway in 2k12 and they also went so far as to put his gray spot in the middle of his goatee. that's quite a bit for the worst center of all time.

You say this as it the ratings are re done every year. They could just be imported from the last game with these tweaks and new ratings for the rookies.

Add to the fact that only the ratings are really done (tendencies and hotspots are unfinished/wrong). The community rosters go through the mess he made and fix nearly all of it along with completing hotspots and tendencies

Again, I think this is exaggerated. Granted when the game first dropped, I did see Amare or another center get caught with the shot clock low and hoist up a 3. Since then -- ehh, not really. I have yet to witness a big man crossing me up -- if he even thinks to do it I'll take his cookies . You can't honestly say you see stuff like this frequently enough for it to be a problem. And I'm NOT saying your stuff is bad but its not as bad as you guys say.

Also, what do you use to 'revamp' your rosters? I know 2k attempts to use a third party (I thought it was 82games) -- I'd just like to know from a known roster maker like yourself. I personally like looking at HoopData.

I'm not saying they don't do anything -- I'm saying most use the Insider's set as a base and tweak from there. All I'm saying is tweaking is a whole lot different than doing everything from scratch meaning it isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

I just played a quick game with default roster/slider. Lakers @ Bulls. Noah was jab stepping for 7 seconds, taking long fade aways two's and taking three's. Boozer was standing still top of the key dribbling the shot clock for the entire 23 seconds just to take a wild shot that completely airballs.

I mean it's the first game I play with default roster in like 7 or 8 months and this happens like 15 times during the whole 48 minutes.

And to be fair, the rosters makers work for months to get things right. They don't just tweak a few things here and there. There is like 5 guys working for months to get things right.

The out of the box roster and slider are just unacceptable.

Please catch this on video for me If I get time during the week I'll record a game to spot things like this. I just recorded a game to look for 'shot clock cheese' and looking at that video I didn't have ONE guy doing anything like that. But I'll record one and look for constant fadeaways from big men and big men standing there dribbling out the clock.

If I play defense on the person will they still continue to act like this or will I need to let the computer play defense? With shot clock cheese I was told its a myplayer, cpu v. cpu issue or something similar. Is that the reasoning in this as well?

I have no way to record gameplays from my xbox360.

Try to get a game against the bulls, maybe they are glitched, I don't know. But Noah sure thinks he's Kobe Bryant.

And as for the shot clock cheese, I don't believe in it either.

The 2k Insider was Edmond Dantés... and he was my father. And my mother... my brother... my friend. He was you... and me. He was all of us.

Its cool -- when I play I'll record it to see. I think I don't see these things because of my play style. Like if I see a big man dribbling on the perimeter, I'm swiping at the ball. Its against my principles to let him 'And 1' me lol.

My offline association is started with the 2k default roster. I do play with someone from 2k share's roster -- mainly because it had updated rosters, the 2012 Men's Olympic Team (for a few countries too), and the Brooklyn Nets.
