If everyone I made didn't look exactly the same that wouldn't be a problem lol
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

Perhaps to some, but what better way to honor the league than to allow folks to re-live great moments throughout history? Yes, time always moves forward, but the only reason anything we do in life matters is because we can remember it.
Definitely man, I just love the history of the game, and I want more, and there have been so many great personalities, and fantastic players over the years, you just don't want to forget them.

I've always had some kind of love affair with past players, it started when I was young, I used to Xerox pictures from the local library of John Havlicek,Russel, Luisetti, Baylor, and tape them to my wall. Why because my Dad told me so many stories about them, he saw them play, and there was a weird, awesome mystique about them.

I was born in the 90's so I knew nothing about them. So I just imagined their greatness from what my dad told me, and I learned more about them as time went on.

LOL I can't believe I paid a dime a dozen to just xerox black and white pictures of those players, but it was always something I looked forward too. Every time I went to the library I picked 10 more pictures, and taped em to my wall, and usually checked out a book that gave me even more information on them.

Those were the days NBA on NBC, and I always had my basketball cards on deck.

But yea I love NBA History.

I'm still not sure why they couldn't just keep the teams already there and add 00's squads as well. I'm mostly a 90's and 00's kid so I'd also love some new teams but I can't lie, using the older squads was pretty awesome. For years the most I could do was read about the likes of Bill Russell and watch horrible footage of him. It was something special to have something tangible to work with in 2K12 in regards to legends from years past. Their signature styles, where they fit in comparison to their teammates and opponents, the different rules. It's a history lesson that doubles as a lot of fun. I used to do the same thing when NHL 2K and NFL 2K had classic teams. How else would I have ever known Hakan Loob played an integral role in the Calgary's run to the 1989 Stanley Cup?

Ha, so awesome, because I used to do something very similar. I was obviously a little lamer than you because I didn't Xerox photos, I'd just take the decade old NBA Encyclopedia our local library had on tap and I'd make copies of NBA Drafts. And at school, I remember being pumped for entering middle school because I figured their library would have a super deep basketball section. Instead though, again, every book was 20-30 years old, so it was a lot of Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, and Oscar Robertson biographies for me.

Not the same man, I gotta have the authentic courts from that era, players faces and hairstyles, and the correct uniforms and commentary appropriate to that era.

LMAO I swear VDusen your like my long lost twin. I swear to God if I had 2k12 on ps3 in the 90's when I was a kid I may have never left my room.

I had a mini hoop on my closet door, xerox picures of players on my wall that I dreamed about, and if I could play with the 64-65 Celtics in color? with the graphics engine we now have. Oh Dear God.

Haha I had that hoop on the closet too, I'd literally watch games and whoever just scored I'd recreate it as the games going on lol..I was on the third floor of an apt. building so I feel bad for my neighbors when someone dunked.

Same thing, watch a game in the tv room, go back to my room recreate it. I'd also do this using basketball cards, haha let me explain. I had alot of basketball cards just given to me from a friend, talking like two shoe boxes full and I would seperate the players and put them on their respective teams for that year. It would say 95-96, so I'd create my roster and learn about the players from their cards.

I could look at a players card and say "ok Nick Anderson can shoot the three", based on his 3pt%. Horace Grant can't shoot the three, more of an inside player. Even my made up games had to be sorta realistic. Shaq wasn't making a three in my made up world. I loved using the Magic, I loved Penny and Shaq. I cheesed hard with Penny and Turner for some odd reason, he always seemed to hit the three pointer over my bed

Damn good times. also LMAO I would flicker the lights before I played, like they did in Chicago when the Bulls were announced. Yea if you peaked in my bedroom I would of told you I was in Orlando playing the Bulls, but you would have seen a little kid shooting a kush ball into a hanger, sweating (yes it got intense) and talking to myself

Re: Honestly, I just want more legend teams..

Looking at the last posts....I may be wrong....but

I would speculate that the vast majority of us who love the classic teams mostly care about 80s, 90s, 00's and can do without the 70's and prior. Maybe with the exception of Dr J. I hate to leave out some legends in that era but the reality is, I dont think people who watched those games play allot of video games. And if you can save a few bucks by not including them and grabbing some others, I think you do it.

I think many of us that love 80's ball played atari "line and dot" basketball, double dribble on NES, NBA Jam, Run N Gun arcade, Lakers vs Celtics on Genesis, and on and on. We moved into other variations and then NBA Live started to pull us in. Then Dreamcast dropped a 2k our way and it was jaw dropping.....fast forward to around 2k10 and we all just thought.....man....I wish I could play this game with some of those mid 80s to 90s teams.

I posted under some other name on operation sports about how cool it would be to have classic teams and I referenced how Madden used to do it. I have no idea if it made an impact or not but when I saw Jordan on 2k11 and the greatest on 2k12....I was pumped. I had no idea it would be so complete and had no idea it was possible.

When the Xbox 1080 and the PS7 come out with Hologram video games, watch all of the fans of the 2012 Heat and the 2015 Thunder tell you they want these teams on the new hologram games. They will be willing to pay for it as well.

Pretty much, really we got it all now, I remember asking my friend one time after watching a highlight video on a NBA video game, (think it was Inside Drive), but not sure. It was an awesome intro video, and I asked him "Dude you think they will ever look like that like in the game". I could not have imagined even then, what we have now. Hell, I about died from amazement when 2K11's intro started, that was amazing.

it's cool man, we can't all be as sophisticated as me, I was ahead of the times with the xerox machine

No, but I did the same thing, I was always in detention lol, so I'd grab the NBA encyclopedia, and just learn stuff. It was from the 80's. I bet they will never realize how much I enjoyed detention at school, I had the NBA Encyclopedia and I snuck Slam magazines into my textbooks, yea I was doing my homework.... Learning about why Loren Woods was gonna be the next big thing

I'm loving this thread, so off topic, we might need a basketball nostalgia thread or something.
