Maybe next year I'll have to experiment waiting for a while before making my purchase. Perhaps at that point everything will be set for me to dive right in.
I was an annual release day buyer until I decided to wait until post-patch last year. I just got tired of being an unpaid QA tester and feeling like I had to ignore every mode outside of quick game for over a month (some years even that was unplayable like 2k10 with the framerate issues).

I'll never go back. Paying less for the game + knowing everything works (that's going to) is easily worth the wait. I know that somebody has to be willing to suffer, because apparently modern development cycles don't allow enough time to find/work out all the bugs pre-release, but it's not going to be me ever again.

If videogame reviewers would start deducting points for these issues, maybe the current business model would be forced to change, but for now I am extremely thankful for forums like OS which help inform my decision on when to finally make the purchase.

Tweet them! Let your complaints be heard.
I do not believe 2K is lazy at all. However, I am a little concerned with the direction they're headed in some aspects of their game. I was definitely in the camp of "they can do whatever they want in different aspects of the game as long as there's legends and the game itself plays well". But the extras outside of the game are actually beginning to affect me a little bit, even though I'm actually quite satisfied with the game play.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a slight shift in mission from 2K from "create a stellar simulation" toward "appeal to the masses". It feels like 2K is slowly leaving the door open for a mystery company of the future to step in with their own novel ideas of what makes a great basketball game and leaving a mark in the basketball gaming industry themselves (as 2K once did to EA). I suppose that's a good thing and a bad thing though.

Again, I do think I'll really like the gameplay this year (I'm still getting used to the new controls) but I do not understand how it was envisioned to be a good idea to disable manual saves and move as much as possible online. I feel as though 2K's always had online issues and I understand and empathize, because online gaming is far from perfect. But knowing that, how did the answer to, "How can we make our (2K's) online function better?" become, "Let's connect as many things to the online servers as possible and force people to save automatically every five seconds."?

Am I the only one complaining about not having the option to change colors on items you buy for your myplayer? I'm really pissed at this!!! Come on black and white everything isn't ok when you have the option to customize these items on a new create a player...they make us pay for everthing from headbands to finger straps at least give us the option to colorize our purchase items!!!! Come on 2k even Madden allowed us to do this Once before they locked the option!!! And now they are correcting their mistake so we can do this openly!!! Never thought I would say this about 2k but take a page from EA and get this and all our complaints right thru a patch and then this game will truly be the best sports game made in recent memory...

I guess I can understand why rosters aren't updated on the disk since it takes time to get them manufactured, but not having roster updates ready on Launch Day is extraordinarily lazy, especially since it just takes a couple hours at most to make all the trades and assignments current.

What reason does 2K have for removing this? How do I add players from a draft class to an existing quickplay team? Do I have to wait until 2K14?

Did I just answer my own question?

I'm mid thirties and have played every sports game since the beginning of time. No joke. I managed a game store all through highschool and college where we could take out games and sports games were my thing. I'm not as hyped as some. These sports games seem to be all the same every year. 2k basketball is a bit more polished than most but it's still a few gameplay tweaks and a lot of flash. The games are allt he same after a while. I'd like something new. I like the presentation in Madden. I think EA does a really good job with their presentation but their gameplay is lacking. 2k seems to get the gameplay aspect but it's still more of the same. I don't know if anyone else feels the way I do. I'd like something new. I think games like Madden are the same every year. Fun at first but a few flaws here and there and the gameplay falls apart. 2k basketball seems to have a solid base and improves each year but removes things the same way. They are trying all this nickel and diming stuff vs really being innovative.

These games get boring after a while. It's just disapointing to me. Jay Z integration isn't what i was looking for here. They have the sim nation crew over on madden trying to get the gameplay right and it's 2012. It's all well and good and no offense to these people but I think in general people ahve lost touch of what games should be. They are concentrating on the wrong things.

There are so many things that could be done and aren't being done. I fall for it every year. I fell for it with Madden this year. But I'm holding off here.
I don't really see how 2K9 looks that great aside from the overall court lighting compared to 2K13, and the fact that I'd like skin reflections to be a little brighter in 13 and sweat trails to be back.

2K13 animates infinitely better and 2K9 was easily the worst game of the 2K series I've played since 2K8 with the most jittery and glitchy movement in any recent release and its arcade play. I loved being blocked repeatedly at the three point line. I loved 2K8 but lost interest in 2K9 very quickly.

With exception on a couple of issues, 2K13 plays light years better beyond, well, anything 2K has put out.

If you know you're going to lose a game, why not dashboard? Or, XMB, in my case. Surely the game doesn't autosave while you're playing the game.
My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

I don't even think 2k can fix half the problems through the use of a patch. What now?

they took controls away with this 1. almost as bad as the omission of crew is the way they absolutely destroyed the control system. right stick dribbling, speed burst, and shooting all on the same side of the controller. no go. l2 buttom is our friend. l2 isomotion for life. it just makes so much more sense. iso on left, shoot on right. and how in the world could they get rid of protect ball triple threat move. i can't even get into the triple threat moves anymore a lot of the time. right stick is a crap shoot.

this is not the problem with autosave. let me give you an example of what happened to me.
i spent 2 hours creating myplayer. lots of signature moves. custom jumpshots and releases, and tons of animations, so many animations... that i wanted to get it all just right so it feels like its really "myplayer".
ok so 2 plus hours later i'm ready to play. i hit play next game and... OH NO, wait i hit 'Play Next Key Game' instead... WAIT. STOP, NO DONT AUTOSAVE.

Great. now it's literally jan.15. are you kidding me 2k?
it just simmed some 40 plus games... it went from oct first game of the season to jan. 15!
and now i gotta restart a whole other career. get my routines and customizations down again, play the rookie showcase again, hope i do as good as i did the first time...AGAIN
