For me it depends on if I'm helping or straight post defense. For example, if the big I'm guarding does a post fade I'm hitting the block button. On the other hand if he post drives or makes a move to the basket I'm using RS as it can force a contact animation block sometimes.

help D and off ball wise is really all about reading the animation. Some animations are very block-able animations with the block button and even lead to the emphatic swat animation. Others not so much. Some up and unders fall under this category. Hell you can even pin the ball on the backboard if timed right. There's a rare animation that plays out where the big goes up with two hands and pins the ball gaining possession.

There is also the problem that the game and announcers registers the block with a button block but it will call a foul even if no obvious contact has been made. I cannot for the life of me figure why that is.

Man blocks or so damn twitchy in this game. But you can average good blocks with the right players. It just takes some work and a little luck.

He was bumping them so people could see them. He was just trying to help, not boosting his post count. Not to be mean but you had no business saying anything.

Just had 3 straight games with Oden 3+ blocks and Pau Gasol 2+ blocks.

Do you press other buttons than triangle when you try to block, LT or turbo etc.?

Not in a half court set. If I'm trying to chasedown or late on rotation/help I will. I've gotten more fouls than blocks that way though, sometimes being that "block but foul" scenario when Harlan says its a block.

When im guarding the ballhandler, should i allways have LT pressed togheter with hands-up, or just LT, or just hands-up.. i've tried both, when i press LT + hands-up, they often just blow right by me, when i try just hands-up, i sometimes get out of position when they drive, and end up giving them a clear lane, what do you guys do???!

I don't put the hands up unless:

                  1) Player can no longer drive, because doing so would cause a double dribble

                  2) A D/F outside shooter is stuck on the perimeter

I use L2 to "charge up" the animation under my player who's going to cover the CPU PG as they cross half court then I just let the L2 go and stay in front of him with the left stick...

I also have guys who drive set to double team "on drive" so if they get by me, the help gets there fast...

If they do blow past their man, quickly switch to the closest player in the paint and "body up"...

If you're getting scored on in the paint over and over again, call a timeout and switch to "lock down paint"...

(Or do it on the fly with the D Pad left Defensive Options Menu)

They will usually still attack the paint, but if you can fend them off for a couple possessions, they will then go to the jump shot game...sometimes altering their lineup to load up on perimeter shooters...

There's a lot of "moving parts"...

                  I hope this helps!

It did, but if you dont use L2 or RS on drives, how can you shot of dribbles and layups?

I'm not sure what you're getting at, based on the wording of your response, but I'll take a guess...

I "charge up" the defender's circle using L2 as described

Track him with the left stick

And then try to "block" using the triangle

I basically went back to (a version of) the way we had to play D before the implementation of the new controls...

I personally feel I have more control over the timing using the triangle, as opposed to the R3...

I only use the R3 to "shade" a player to the direction of my help defenders if he's locked into an extended dribble, while he's looking for / deciding if there's someone to pass to...

                      Make sense?

Triangle about 85-90% of the time, with the occasional R3 as a secondary option...

It;s prob not for everyone, but I used triangle for so many years, it's more natural and effective for me...

Esp. the timing of the block

After about 3 months of a break from 2K I've noticed that there is a lot more contact in the paint. There are a ton more blocks per game. I've also noticed that if your opponent is a few feet away from the basket and wants to lay it in, if you just position your big man between your opponent and the basket, he'll block the lay up. You don't (and shouldn't) have to press anything, the big man will do it automatically.

Putting your hands up in the paint to cause contact has much more of an effect than it used to.

i also noticed improvements of contacts inside and outside the paint but i still can't block shots consistently and what hurts me the most is the fact that blocks still occur randomly. What I mean is that the presence of best blockers inside the paint does not make a difference. You are free to correct me if I'm wrong...
