I just checked the price and I can see why it's a problem. I'm sure many people are buying it, it's going to be around for some time to come. This kills any competitiveness MyPlayer and MyTeam offered. I don't like the direction the gaming industry is heading.

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
The problem lies not in 2k trying to make more money off people who decide to "cheat" their way to a 99 rated player or a phenomenal set of virtual nba trading cards, it's the need to force people who don't want to, to think about it as much as possible.
i would not care if 2k decided, hey, you can either buy the game by itself, or buy it with a 20 (or 30, or 40) dollar code that unlocks 100k vc so you can get every item in game, 1 or more 99 rated players from the get go and a gold team with lebron, jordan, his grandparents and the harlem globettroters as your bench.
that would create a chance for them to program the actual vc system in game like a real company should, difficult but rewarding.
as is, what's the point of career mode? spend 10 seasons, break the all-time points record and become a hall of famer and maybe you can afford a cool shirt, an armband and some shoes?
or play 35-40 online games and you can afford a single gold player with no signature skills.
it's not rewarding at all, because if it were, nobody would think about purchasing vc past the first week.
EA has a mode that allows you to buy stuff, but every other single mode has an in-game currency that can't be bought and has to be earned, you don't feel like you're farming virtual currency, you're just playing.
when you have people saying stuff like : " i played so and so games and all i could do was upgrade my player a couple of overall points and get an armband", instead of "i was having fun and i noticed i got rewarded with this and that", you know your only goal is getting all the cash you can from small children and people with 0 patience.
i'm just glad you can't pay to play in better servers, because the "free" ones would be even worse than they ones we had to suffer since 2k10.
if you have to dilute your product to make it more profitable, you may be inside the boundaries of the law, but to me that's a really poor way to treat your customers.
and i still have the original 2k for dreamcast, but this is not acceptable, and it will get worse. it's a matter of time.Comment

Sad, though? It's not. I work hard for my income and it's not putting me below the poverty line to purchase VC. I'm not even using it for the skill points, as I put at least 20,000 VC in accessories and animations right after the draft to give my player a unique feel.
Think about how much money gamers individually put into DLC every year and since the birth of DLC. It's not any sadder than paying >$500 for Rockband DLC or map packs for FPS's.Comment

You know what makes not buying none hard? Playing on the ****ing pistons. We just got creamed by the thunder, with my damn center standing behind the three point line the whole game. I'm a spot up shooter and I bricked eleven shots going three for fourteen for eight points, seven assists, five steals, and three rebounds for a grand total of..... 39 vc. I had a D+ grade, why, because my dumb *** coach decides that a six one point guard would make a good small forward to defend the three time scoring champ, who would proceed to drop thirty eight on my damn head to go with nine boards.
After that game my first thought was "I'm about to buy some vc and dominate so we can finally get our second win of the year." My second thought was "i wonder if i can get my coach fired by complaining to the GM." Low and behold, you can complain about your coach. Bout to try and get his *** fired.Comment

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
No, not sad. I do find it unfortunate that those who (a) aren't old enough and/or don't have an income and (b) are offline players cannot fully take advantage of the game without shelling out this type of money. It's unfortunate for them, but it's the nature of the beast. It's how gaming companies are still able remain in the black and have entire teams dedicated to certain games all year long.

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
i don't mind that VC is available to be purchased with transactions, i am however very disappointed in how long it takes to rank your player up... in 2k11 i had a 99 overall player in 23 days after release, fkn hard earned i pumped some hours in, and it doesn't faz me that people can buy that now good for them, but it will take me the better part of 6-9 months of playing this game hard to get anywhere near 99 overall... it needs to be balanced, there is NO satisfaction in being 'good' at games any more, it gets you no where if you don't have your wallet open.
Pull your heads in 2k, this was the only game i was looking forward to this year. way to ruin it.Comment

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
I'd like to warn anyone who plans on purchasing VC for skill upgrades or accessories to beware as I just had a really bad experience with My player as I couldn't connect to the servers for two days and I finally realized that it had to do with a glitch that happened where I was disconnected as I received VC for the game I played, but at the main menu it showed my next game for my player as being the one I just played. What I think this did was create a discrepancy for My player's career save that couldn't be resolved by the 2k servers so I was only left with the option of continuing offline and not getting VC only SP. I've read about similar issues going on in these forums. And the reason I'm posting this here is really to forewarn people about buying virtual currency because you could really invest in your myplayer and have something like this happen. No my internet connection is not slow, in fact I was connected to the 2k server and was able to get VC out of the mode, but couldn't in my career, tried every workaround. This wouldn't be such a big deal if I could still buy VC to upgrade my player or use VC from other modes. I really don't see the big deal as to why I can't.
Maybe it's because I'm going to be playing online in blacktop? Even then, I couldn't cheese because I still gain the same amount of sp as I did VC so I couldn't cheese and get a 99 ovr blacktop my player. And that's not even something I want to do. If you are going to implement this system, then please make sure your servers run right to ensure that's people's time is not wasted and neither is their money. Also playing offline my career is way smoother than being connected, that's one plus. Fortunately I hadn't invested much money into My player's career, but it sucks that it had to be corrupted.
VDusen, had talked about this in the impressions thread about potential problems about having to report everything to 2k's servers and I agree with him, I don't see the need for it. I don't want to be dependent on a faulty server to enjoy a predominantly offline mode.Last edited by willIam9387; 10-06-2012, 06:54 PM.Comment

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
Holy ... the games only been out FOUR DAYS. It's SUPPOSED to be a longer process. Why does everyone think you should have a 99 My Player in the first week? To the OP, stop playing 8min quarters and then saying it takes too long. Play some 3on3 blacktop if you want to speed the power-up process. And a sidenote, I'm very satisfied with online this year because the servers are better and most importantly, NO CHEATERS.Comment

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
buying VC is basically cheating
online is better, but that 1 second delay in response time is still killing me, makes the game less enjoyable. it's funny how 2k improved it's online to mediocre and now people say its great.Comment

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
That's exactly the problem, they make it so cheap that most people think, "eh, why not." That's a problem because if these things continue to generate revenue, the problem is only going to get worse. This is only the beginning. Next generation of consoles it'll probably be worse. I'm sure the new ones will have stuff custom made to nickel and dime us even further. My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10
3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.Comment

What I did not do was pay for the ability to change my style of batting gloves, or switch from an old-style helmet to a new one, or to give my guy shades. Plus when I shelled out my money for my skill points, I didn't have to choose between fastball velocity or a compression sleeve.
Surely you can understand our point, even if you don't agree with it??
Everything you did to your guy to make him unique, wouldn't have costed you a dime last year. This is the issue. It's inexplicable, and it can't legitimately be justified. Let's stop acting like earning enough VC to get a headband has anything to do with the game being a challenge, or your guy getting better...it's a headband people.
Look...I love 2K, been playing NBA 2K since the Dreamcast...haven't had a NBA Live game since Live '97 with Mitch Richmond on the cover. But I can still call 2K on it's BS. Let's not love a company/game to a fault to where you're acting like other people are being ridiculous for making valid points.
If YOU have no issue with paying for a headband...fine. I'll refrain from judging you, and say to each his own. But DO NOT compare buying in-game accessories, that have been in the game since the turn of the century - to a map pack DLC or song packs in one of those singing games. While people have arguments against both, at least you can also make the argument that it's new content being added.
Headbands, wristbands, rubberbands, knee-pads, finger tape, ankle braces, full sleevs, half-sleeves, etc. where ALL in the game for at least 2-3 years now. This unique look you were going for, that cost you 20,000 VC, was free last year. The justification for making you pay for it this year? Doesn't exist.
So while it's good that you're enjoying your experience with the game, and don't mind paying for minor items like a rubber band on your wrist...it would be cool if you didn't act like people were complaining about the price of the game or something.Comment

Re: Stop Buying Virtual Currency, please
Just wait its gonna get worse. I told homie who bought 2k cared more for him cause he bought the Dynasty edition, lol. he's not doing anyone any favors, it's only gonna come back to bite everyone.
Just wait till they raise the price cuz they added an unwanted/took out something just to make you buy something with the game(ex. Jordan brand packs). Ohhhhh waaaaait that's actually what they just did. Smh
It's reasons like this is why you should never be a fanboy. Cause they gone sell out, it was never about you really. Nothing is wrong with that, but when you pledge blind allegence it sets you up for disappointment.
I know I used to be that fanboy.:wink:Imma call'm Clay.Comment
