On ball defense is fine on the perimeter I agree but the paint defense is another thing. The rotations are too slow and for some reason they dumbed down players to not contest some shots and move out of the way to allow certain drives to happen in the paint and on the break. Even playing as good defensive teams you will see this. It is like the game has to allow some of it to exist to allow certain shots to fall in the paint. I guess I could play around with cranking up the awareness.

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
I see that many people share my frustration for lack of defensive application by the cpu: slow rotation, no helpingD, opponents left alone or viceversa when not required, coach profiles not working properly.
It's exactly what I wanted to say with this thread.....the AI defense should apply at least the fundamentals.Comment

this is the point man, when opponents need to recover or take a run the AI dumbness begin....no matter what you do to stop them.Comment

To all this we need to add also glitches like that....I see that many people share my frustration for lack of defensive application by the cpu: slow rotation, no helpingD, opponents left alone or viceversa when not required, coach profiles not working properly.

why a bad pass of the cpu has to turn in a lead pass?????
This is just an example, but situations like these happen maaaaany times in the game, like clean blocks or steals not recognized.....for me is really a serious problem that ruins the gameplay.
I hope that 2k is reading and seeing all this crap....Comment

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
Everyone complains when there help defense their last line of defense lets the ball handler score?
Why don't you switch to him and defend the drive? Again I do everything manually and have basically have no problems on D. If the ball handler only has 1 person to beat on your defense SWITCH to him try to take the charge, intentionally foul him, contest him with the right stick **** do something.
Again do everything on D manually, hedge, play the pass lanes when opportunity presents its self, defend the post etc.Add me om PSN for a good game of basketball!

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
What I do is double manually on good players sometimes playing user vs. user. Say like Dwight on the post. I have been using the Pacers playing against a friend offline HOF Sim vs. the Lakers. What I have seen is my CPU teammate will sort of move out of the way to create a lane to drive to get off a shot if he drives excessively with Kobe or forces shots with Dwight thus defeating the purpose of a double. I am not talking about on the perimeter or isomotion giving or some fancy post moves that fakes me out. Just moving out of the way to create a lane to allow the layup to happen. I have seen it so many times that is defeats the purpose of the double.Everyone complains when there help defense their last line of defense lets the ball handler score?

The other thing I don't like is pressing to block but your man jumps after the shot goes up there is a delay in shot blocking for some reason.Comment

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
Not sure if it was mentioned already but I just saw in another thread that the online difficulty is on Pro which lowered defensive AI and raised shot % so that may be the case for terrible defensive logic in online games.

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
Pro... Hall of Fame .... it doesn't really matter. I played against one of my friends online. Hall of Fame/Simulation. He went into the paint at all costs. In all honesty, I thought I was playing NBA Jam. We threw the ball down the court to our big men who were out ahead of us. Dunks are automatic. If you're in the paint with a big man, it is unstoppable. There will be no contact, no disturbing him. You can dunk or shoot at will in that position. Not sure if it was mentioned already but I just saw in another thread that the online difficulty is on Pro which lowered defensive AI and raised shot % so that may be the case for terrible defensive logic in online games.

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
All you guys agreed that 2K13 isn't worth your time? I didn't expect it to decline like that.My sim friends that I've played this game with for the past few years either in leagues or Associations have already traded this game in. My love of bball and this being the only bball game on the market is the only reason I kept it. I'm not looking for flawless, I'm ok with decent, but this is just terrible.Comment

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
I'm hoping to agree with you here. I mean it would be pretty hard for the defense to be so ridiculous that it takes the fun or point out of playing a simulation basketball game. I'll have to look into this though.2K out of the box always have issues. Why would your friends trade the best nba2K a week after release? Yes the game needs a patch, what's new about that? Yes there are issues, are they worse than last year's? Nope. Is the game better than nba 2K12? Yes in almost every aspect of the game.
I just don't get why would lets say 10 2k's old timers would decide to trade in 2K13 after 2 weesk. What's SO terrible about it?Comment

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
Never would I consider playing 5 minutes. 7-9 minutes at all times for me. I wouldn't think the quarter length will present a problem or big difference.NBA 2K12 defensive play was excellent. The main problem with that game was the offensive play, it was just way too dominant that the defense wasn't good enough to stop. If they had kept NBA 2K11's offensive play and the pace of the game, NBA 2K12 would have been superb.
Now we have NBA 2K13: gaudy menus, deteriorated presentation elements. At least with NBA 2K11 and 2K12, the game felt like Simulation basketball. Now, it turned into a true video game .... virtual currency, constant fast breaks, high field goal percentage.
However, I will admit NBA 2K13 is a great game if you are playing 5 minute quarters. A lot of sim ballers like to play 12 minutes (like the real game). 2K Sports, go turn on NBA 2K11, take notes and make up a patch. Defensive play is essential to Simulation basketball.Comment

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
I see what you are saying but there is only so much strategy you can use. I mean it doesn't go much further than playing basic defense and hoping to stop the other team. You guys are pathetic defense is just fine.
If you have the knowledge on how to play defense and on how to ADJUST defense is just fine. A little more contact in the paint and defense would be damn near perfect.
Again man up and learn how to play the game. If you use real NBA defensive strategies you'll do just fine. I play with alot of bad teams, against elite teams against very, very, very good sim players. And always have a great chance of winning the game or I win the game, do to coaching adjustments defensively.
Again most people don't have the knowledge on how to play NBA defense and they blame the game. Defense is just fine.Comment

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
There's so much strategies you can use.
It's all about coaching, matchups etc. How you play isolations, do you force ball handler into their off hand, or force them into your help defense. Do you give bad shooters space to shoot or run out aggressively on them like a idiot giving a bad shooter a driving lane. Your rotations on defense, anticipation on the move, double teaming then switching to another defender to play the passing lanes or to drop down to take away a driving lane from the guy who receives the ball out the double team.
There's so much things you can do on D it's crazyyyyy. Again if you have the knowledge on how to play defense you'll do just fine.Add me om PSN for a good game of basketball!

Re: The defensive logic of this game is completely messed up!
I look up all the terminology and stuff like hard hedge, soft hedge, sag off ... I am going to admit, I am fairly new to basketball (2010 my first year as a fan). I do not know when to use all this stuff or how to play defense. can you provide tips and scenarios ... how would you adjust your defensive assignments on certain teams? You seem to know a lot, DaDon. help a fellow Nets fan out! hahaThere's so much strategies you can use.
