Re: NBA 2K13 - Best Defensive Stoppers

this thread is a complete joke.

rajon rondo is no where near a top 5, probably not even a top 10 defender on the perimiter in REAL basketball..he gambles WAY to often

rondo ranks 175 in isolation defense according to synergy sports

tony allen hands down the best defender??? let me fix this for you.

avery bradley is BY FAR the best perimiter defender in basketball

ask any GM ask any guard who you don't want defending you.

    Tony Allen DEFENSIVE Rankings
Iso: .75 points per play, 36.1% fg, ranked 98th
Pick and Roll: .62 points per play, 30.2% fg, ranked 13

    Avery Bradley DEFENSIVE Rankings
Iso: .67 points per play, 30.3% fg, ranked 43
Pick and Roll: .65 points per play, 33.3% fg, ranked 19

Avery Bradley is also the #1 ranked defender statistcally according to synergy sports for players who have defended 200+ possesions

Avery Bradley should have a 95+ on-ball D. he is the ONLY player in basketball who guards the ball handler all 94 feet of the court.

if you are going to make ranking threads, and say stuff is HANDS DOWN no contest...prove it

look if you dont like it, i dont care, this isn't about real life, it's about the ratings in 2K. I just put their real-life accomplishments and stuff so it could just support it.

Something the OP doesn't include in his rankings but which affects defense in the game dramatically is the player's Strength rating -- and not just for post players. Wings and points with high strength make much better defenders too.

well it's ok, and i purposely used the 2K's crappy roster. If i used mine, it would be a better ranking. But more people use 2k's roster.

Nice one, man, I actually didn't know strength could do anything but helping out post players.

Yeah, perimeter defenders need strength to be able to either force or avoid certain animations.

You can see it play out if you use Avery Bradley (strength: ~30) to guard someone like Nate Robinson (strength: ~75). Nate will sometimes be able to just bull-rush right into him and keep going.

BTW.. where did you get these stats from? They're pretty good.

Another factor overlooked is quickness and speed when it comes to perimeter defense. In this game Shumpert (84 OBD 90 Qui 92 Speed) is a better on ball defender then Selofosha (88 OBD 72 Qui 69 Speed).

This thread is pointless. Ranking defenders based on what 2K has rated them has already been done by one of the regular columnists here (I think its MMChris). Adding real life accomplishments to this list is also pointless as it has no effect on the gameplay.

I was expecting some actual insight by someone who's actually played with all these players extensively and knows how to get the best of them on the defensive end. I repeat, this thread is of no use to anyone. I could have just used the "player finder" option in Association to find out who were the best defenders in the game.

It's funny how threads about online modes are deleted within a few hours of being created but threads that are started with references to real life, even when there is no relevant connection to the game, and will inevitable go off down the real life rabbit-hole, are tolerated.

Eh, Avery is an amazing defender, but you are overrating his impact. He missed 32 games this year (BOS-IN game was cancelled due to the bombing though, so I guess only 31 techinically) and only played 28.7 mpg, he would have to have a GOAT like impact to make up for missing so much time. He also does not have the offensive responsibility that guys like George, Lebron, and Iguodala have. If they got to conserve energy on one end and only concentrate on defense they would put up great Synergy stats as well.

Also, Bradley's individual defense is great, but that is because he is a poor team defender who often refuses to help his teammates and leaves them on an island. The Celtics played better defense with Bradley on the bench this year. 104.6 DRTG with Bradley on the court, 103.3 DRTG with him off.
