Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
It's funny, the only people saying its perfect where it is are online players and people who probably never try to steal at all ie centers, power forwards and small forwards.
Most of the shooting guards are probably scoring guards and ball hogs.
The people who play defense properly, which DOESN'T mean spamming, and the people who try for an OCCASIONAL steal are the ones missing out on this.
All you online guys do realise that if it stays like this the online games will be less and less as people don't want to play insta foul games.
Mark my words, within a month the forums will be flooded with, I can't find a game online and are the servers down? Coz your game mode will end up null and void.
Thats not gunna happen ppl will adjust and stop reachin in. Thy got no choice if they want to play a b-ball game online.Comment

Pass drive and pass shoot?
Do you draw a double team and pass to the open man for an easy assist?
Do you start a fast break before the ball hits the rim?
Do you play as the heat? OKC? Lakers?
Do you use ankle breaker?
All them things are considered "cheese" to someone or another.
Having IMPOSSIBLE steals is NOT an answer. A medium between old and new should be correct.
Basically by saying yes YOU are REMOVING steals from the game altogether.
It's an exploit, YES, agreed.
Should it have been addressed? YES, agreed.
To the extent it has been? NO.
If you think it does then you shouldn't be playing at all.We live in a world with smart phones and stupid peopleComment

I don't understand the complaints yet. Maybe I need some more time, but I only get about a foul call on 1/3 of my steal attempts with Curry. I tap steal very sparingly, and only in logical situations. I ended up with one on-ball steal in a 12 minute quarter game without Curry getting into foul trouble (who actually does get into foul trouble in real life because -- wait for it-- he reaches). Very realistic.
I did get into a bit more trouble with Jarrett Jack and Barnes from my reaching but you gotta wonder why I was doing that in the first place.
Now I think it might be more interesting to have the stealing game be tweaked so that rather than resulting in a foul call automatically even when the ball seems exposed sometimes, decent ball handlers will pull back and protect the ball or be able drive past a reach-- you reach, I teach. And when they do pull back, it might or might not result in a foul, but when there is a foul, it should animate like a foul actually occurred.
I think the game already does a lot of this. Maybe it just needs a better tutorial on when a good time to steal is, but it should under no circumstances reward hitting the steal button more than once or twice on a short span and in an opportune situation. The steal rate should be low and realistic (an average of 2.5 per 12 min quarter games for the very best pick pockets including passing lane steals.) Players should be discouraged for reaching whether it's a foul or because it puts you out of defensive position.
Now with big men posting up, I'd like to see steals result in them picking up the dribble most of the time and go into high protect ball animations. Perhaps their tendency to do this rather than coughing up the ball can be linked to offensive awareness. I hate seeing steal spam on posting big men that do nothing as the defenders hands phase through the ball while he swipes incessantly. But I don't want to see them rewarded with an actual steal either. It would be nice to see bigs respond accordingly and be force to pass out of pressure without always turning it over by a direct steal.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
I normally play just as the PG in anssociation game, and I've noticed a big increase in reach in fouls for my team. I play on 10 minute quarters, and with roughly 2 minutes to go in the quarter, my teammates had already amassed a total of 8 fouls, with only 1 being a shooting foul.Comment

Still not enough reaches called online. Which is where the problem is. It's no not the CPU spamming x with impunity.Comment

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
Does MyCareer play that differently from quick games? My comments were entirely about offline play, and it plays relatively realistically. I even use sliders with fouls turned way up. So unless MyCareer is an entirely different experience from NBA Today, I don't see the problem (unless you expect 3-4 steals every 48 minute game).Last edited by Sundown; 12-03-2012, 09:07 AM.Comment

Your player is only as good as you make him.
And in normal circumstances regarding steals I would agree with all the people on here.
But when your myplayer has 99 steal, 99 offensive awareness, 99 hands, pickpocket sig skill, defensive anchor and lockdown defender, keeping in mind he is made specifically for steals, but you can't get even 1 steal per game since the patch then something is not right.
He's not just a joe blow player.

Re: Poll: Reach in fouls rate
That's exactly what these people want, 10 to 12 steals a game cause they have a 99 steal rating with pickpocket and active hands why don't yall just play NBA JAM. Obviously u want an arcade type game with unrealistic steal amounts even the best defenders only get 1 to 2 on ball steals a game. The best defenders play D with their feet not reaching the whole game. LEARN BASKETBALL AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY THIS GAME BETTERIF U CAN'T BEAT ME LEGIT, CAN U ACTUALLY BEAT ME???Comment

You don't control every player on the team.
