    Shot stick all the way.

Now take away the shot button and make it fake pass, that way on the long layup animations we can manually press (x) to initiate a fake pass in the middle of the animation.

Of course this would need to take some skill to master as doing it too early/late should result in some penalty. Too early (lose the ball off the fake), too late (traveling, too many steps).

Higher rated players (Ball handling, pass, off hand, ball sec, should all be considered when implementing the fake pass off of movement.) would have a larger timing window, while obviously a lower rated would be smaller.

So in this video below, I would have to do: RT(turbo) + LT (mod) + RS (initiate lay animation), then let go of RS, hit X, result would be a dunk. Now if there is contact/defender there, let me get back on the RS to adjust shot if needed.

I like the idea of ridding the double-tap for fake pass (the animation looks terrible, and it's a travel in most instances) and I definitely like the idea of being able to fake pass and continue toward the basket, but there's no way I'd want to give up the shooting button to do it. I feel there must be another button somewhere that'd be available instead of automatically going for the one button I've always found integral to video game basketball.

I use a mixture of both because some moves are simpler to pull off with the shot button and I get a more consistent result, but with other moves the shot stick feels more natural in the heat of the game. Example of what I use:

            Shot stick for everything!

I got shot stick up in my chain. I got shot stick up in my rings. I got shot stick up in my watch. Don't believe me, just watch

Also, it feels like the player goes up stronger in the paint with shot buttons than they do with the shot stick. I forgot to mention that button responsiveness is another reason I tend to steer more towards the shot stick.
Yeah, this exact thing is constantly happening to me also. It drives me nuts. Good thing I have Jennings and Ellis with the Acrobat Skill, or I'd probably miss tons more layups than I already do.

I use the Shot Stick 100% of the time. I guess I could try using the buttons on drives and see how it feels.

I actually like the new format.
using the right stick for dbl moves makes alot of scene to me.
I still use the shot stick in the post.

I use a combination. I loved the shot stick in the past but the current configuration makes it too difficult and innatural to me in certain situations (different types of jumper, hop-step layup, eurostep).
I still use it in the post game, when I have little more time to think about the move.
However if I had to choose just one, I would go with the buttons
                    Loving the dribbling stick though

Re: Shot Button vs. Shot Stick

I used to mix things up between the two back in 2K12 when you didn't have to press L2 while flicking the shot stick to make a shot. Now that they made it mandatory to press L2 (or Left Trigger) before pulling back on the shot stick to make shots, I started to use the shot button to shoot everything now. I was so used to just flicking the shot stick to the right on fast breaks in 2K12 to make an easy Layup or Dunk. I personally think they ruined it by having to actually pull back on L2 before hitting the shot stick to shoot. That doesn't work for me, they should've kept it the same. On the plus side though, it is a lot easier to pull off crossovers but that comes at quite the cost since now I have to rely solely on my button mashing skills to make and drain shots and dunks now.

Buttons for jump shots, but shot stick for dunks and lay-ups. Just whatever I feel most comfortable with.
