Re: Passing is horrible in this game.
The worst is trying to pass to a guy who is open on the wing and they decide to cut to the basket. Usually ends up in some crappy animation causing a turnover or forcing a really bad shot. Running plays slighty help, until you pass into the paint and then it's a kinder surprise. I find passing online much worse than offline play.Comment

The guy is completely open, he asks the ball, you pass to him and just when the ball leaves your hands, he goes to the basketComment

Also just an opinion, but i think some people just try to force things too much, play out of control, and try to do things that don't make much sense basketball-wise. But I have no way of knowing this....and it doesn't mean I don't think passing doesn't need some improvement.
But if you play enough online or watch YouTube videos of people playing....it's kind of amazing sometimes to see how a large percentage of people play this game. It seems like everyone wants to just run around at a breakneck pace sprinting around and throwing careless passes...for most people running an "offense" means dribbling around with their best player for 20 seconds or making 1 pass and then shooting.
This is NOT what you see when you watch an NBA game.
Teams run plays and sets...set screens on and off the ball....space the floor....swing the basketball....etc, etc.
I know it's just a video game, but playing this out of control style is going to be penalized in a basketball game. Just as trying to play Madden like a crazy little kid who only throws Hail Mary passes all day is going to do the same.Comment

Re: Passing is horrible in this game.
I have 99 Pass on my myplayer and he seems to throw good passes most of the time even in the paint.
Some tips are:
Hold turbo when passing out to the perimeter, it tends to be a faster more accurate pass at least for me.
Don't bury yourself into the defense with two or more guys around then attempt a pass, its more likely to get tipped or stolen.
Learn to bounce pass.
"Directional passing" holding the LS in the direction(away from the defense) you want the player to go.
Don't attempt risky passes(over, through defenders) with players with a bad pass rating.Comment

Re: Passing is horrible in this game.
People need to stop complaining about the CPU cheating to steal their passes. We have known for some time now that the CPU gets a +10 boost in everyone of their individual ratings on HOF difficulty. To combat this, you'll need to lower the quickness slider, so you can nerf the unrealistic defensive recovery speed. You would even have to do this if you were the commish of an OA and you're just playing against humans. This is the only way right now, for the passing speed and the defensive recovery speed to be in the correct proportion. For 2K14, we must have faster passing, and they need to improve the passing animations. Too many of them are stiff, especially the touch passing on the perimeter. They need to be smooth.
They also need to improve the 'A' button passing. No matter how good icon passing is, the direct passing needs to be the better and preferred form of passing. You can't bounce pass with icon passing and I sometimes make mistakes with icon passing, like passing it backwards for a backcourt violation because of substitutions or passing it to a covered player when there was a player cutting to the rim. When I run the pick and roll, I should be able to use direct passing reliably and not have to rely on icon passing (again, can't manually bounce pass). By doing the latter, I lose the option to immediately rise up for a jumpshot, because for that to happen, I would have to first click R2 to take the icons off, and THEN shoot. By the time I've done that, the defense would have probably closed the space I've created off the pick. Icon passing LIMITS what I can do.
On bounce passing, not everyone in the game should be throwing left handed bounce passes like Rubio. I hardly ever see any two handed bounce passes. There needs to be more differentiation.
Let the user be able to do handoff passes like the CPU. Cut out these horrible looking one foot passes. Just let us do a handoff instead.
The lob passes need to be faster.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Re: Passing is horrible in this game.
This is how you know passing is jacked up; when running a play and the (A) icon appears over the player and you press (A) and the pass goes to another player. WTH?
I understand the paint passing, 2K needs to get rid of all those canned animation that happen before it hit the players hands.
Psychic defenders, slow passes, long pass animations, and bad catch animations are the main issues (IMO).Last edited by keshunleon; 01-23-2013, 02:18 PM.True bout my business, Mane!Comment

If not, you would have complaints going the other way....like what if you are running play where someone comes off a screen and BOTH defensive players leave and cover him, leaving the man who set the screen wide open?
If the A/X button automatically threw it to the man the play is designed for....you would be FORCED to throw it to a guy with 2 people on him with no option to throw it to the man under the hoop with no one on him. That ain't good.Comment

Re: Passing is horrible in this game.
I am not disputing the left stick passing, never said it was dead.
I understand what you are talking about but in my quote I am referencing the icon passing issue when running plays. I don't use it anymore because its broken.True bout my business, Mane!Comment

I think passing is fine. The only issue I have with it is when you're on the wing and rotate the ball, but he does a behind the back pass and he drops it.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

And for me, Icon Passing is not really feasible when running the PNR. Usually what I do is hit the turbo button to use the pick, then bring up the passing icons immediately. The problem is if I get in the paint and have a shot opportunity, I have to hit the RB button again before I shoot. So I'm stuck at the rim, noone else is open, and I have to hit RB, then Shot Stick before A. the defense adjusts, or B. a 3 second call. There's been more than a few times where I was wide open for a layup, yet had to dribble back out because I have to use Icon Passing given the unreliability of "A" passing. Other than that issue, Icon Passing is great.
And yeah, I don't know why it's so hard to put the user handoff in the game. I mean, I have to assume there's a good reason they haven't implemented it yet, as the game would look much better with handoffs, as opposed to the ugly short pass that looks like it magically pushes the passee back a bit.Comment

Re: Passing is horrible in this game.
Passing is easily one of the worst parts of this game. The CPU is somehow able to complete nearly every pass they make out of a shot with no bobble or anything. The CPU is often able to pass the ball right through defenders facing away from the ball. I don't know how many times I've seen a CPU player drive into the paint and go up for a layup, realize it was a mistake when they see two 7 footers come to send their shot the other way and bring the ball back down right as they should have released it and make a behind the head or over the shoulder miracle pass to a wide open shooter. I've seen Rondo triple jump through the lane to make a pass out of a shot animation to Pierce for an open 3. The user doesn't get these type of things, the user gets a wide open player bobbling the catch, they get to continue with the layup or jumpshot animation even though you noticed an open man and tried to pass the ball. The user gets players that catch a high entry pass in the lane and bring it down through a defender causing a turnover instead of keeping the ball high and dunking or doing a layup, the same pass and catch for the CPU will go through the defender on the users team.Say "No" to railroaded MC modes.Comment
