Damn, it's kind of a shame to see a lot of people mindlessly saying they'll buy the game no matter what, no offense. But that's the type of thing that makes it so they don't have to improve much because they know people will buy the game no matter what.
In order for me to buy the game new, i'm gonna have to see A LOT of improvement to the passing and the rebounding at least. And less exaggerated dunking. Also less canned animations. Otherwise i'll just buy the game used, which means they won't be seeing profit from it. I will not pay 60 dollars for a game with the same problems. Let's see some improvement and let the series blossom into what it can be.
Core gameplay/fundamentally sound bball>EVERYTHING ELSE(cosmetics, graphics, shoes, crew, etc.)

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
I appreciate that 2k is heading in the Right Direction this year with trying to reduce a lot of fakeness to the game
My only Issues would be
1.Defense... I feel like I'm skating and there's really no defensive strategy that works consistently Defense was GREAT in 2k11.. (atleast I was able to master it) but this year it's almost hopeless on defense... I just try to predict the moves of whoever I'm playing since the reaction time on defense is extremely slow... And the Paint defense has went back to 2k9 with the Standing Dunk Animation
2. The new Dribbling controls are very hard for me to try to understand or even use.... and If i do use these new dribbling controls It almost always results in a turnover or me not really gaining any space... I think they should redo the new dribbling controls
3. Again they COMPLETELY IGNORE Association again and even REMOVED the D-League from association... which was very helpful last season and they should look to make it more useful next year by maybe adding drills for the D-League roster or certain Milestones or focus points in D-League games that I would want to be ImprovedComment

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
For me - Nothing, honestly.
I play 2K all year round (Mostly during the NBA season since it gets me into it) and during the summer as i'm getting tired of all the other main stream games...So I honestly would keep buying them as long as they don't turn horrid like removing MyPlayer/Career and Online Associations then I wouldn't buy it, I don't think anyone would lol.
IMO if you like Basketball, you'll buy this game if you like to play sports simulations...The question of "What would it take you to buy it" should be left alone for the AAA games like CoD, Halo, BF, etc.Say "Oooooh."Comment

Which is a shame, people need to stop being so compulsive and use some restraint. The same thing happens with the COD games each year.Comment

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
That is what you call marketing.
Why would 2k put everything good thing into one game? Yes their sells would be great but who would really buy the game next year without all the best things like the previous year? Yeah you could argue roster updates, it's more current, but if the game had a good MyPlayer/Career, Crew mode, good online service, Teamup (Maybe MyTeam again.) all the good things who would really buy the next game just for roster updates?
Same for CoD, Yes it is horrid, but it's because they make one every year for money. They could easily make CoD a great game if it was on a 2-3 year release schedule but since Activision is all about the money, they won't allow it.Say "Oooooh."Comment

1. Offensive/Defensive balance. Right now it seems like the player D has a handicap in reaction time vs. the CPU D and the CPU offense. The off-ball CPU offense has an uncanny ability to juke me out of my shoes without me putting a hand on him, but whenever I want to move off the ball on offense, I get all kinds of shoved, held, and pushed off my route...none if which is a foul, btw. Might I add that, far too often, my own teammate screens me from getting to my man, so pick/screen/switch logic needs a major overhaul. Also the oft-mentioned rebounding balance issues need to be addressed.
2. Coaching. I want the coach to play more of a role in mycareer mode. I would like to speak to coach first if I'm having doubts about the team, our want to mix up the roles a bit. The GM seems like he should be the last line of defense for team personnel discussions. Also, the coach's personality and coaching style should be represented much more thoroughly going forward, as they're just as much responsible for W-L and team makeup as the players, if not more. Actually, I wouldn't be mad if they started using coaches as cover spokesmen, lol.
3. Think about replacing Clark Kellogg. He's really not that bad, but we're missing out on so many better color commentators...and really, Clark is better known for doing college games irl, anyway. I'd love to hear Reggie Miller, Jon Barry, Hubie Brown, Mike Fratello, Chris Webber, or even just Kevin & Steve alone. UT was great to get 3 guys going back and forth, but it's not 'necessary', per se. Jeff Van Gundy probably won't be with EA anymore...?
4. Figure out as many ways add possible to reduce loading screens/prompts. MyCareer has a loading prompt every time you go to the home page, the NBA home page takes forever to load 6 pictures, the game takes like 20-30 seconds to load from the time you press Start (not to mention that you have to press X/A in order to actually continue)...if I have 2 drills in MyCareer and I wanna spend my 2nd drill on the same drill as the 1st, I should be able to 'try again? (1 drill left)' instead of having to exit, save to server, load MyCareer again, sync with 2K servers, load my player's loadout, select drills, and load that drill just to do the same one.
5. Plan on players getting 5 and 6 seasons under their belts before the next edition. The fact that, for at least 2 years now, game logic gets screwed up after ONE season is a major problem, MyCareer, Association, or otherwise. GM's usually sit down at the end of every season and look at the team from scratch...so the logic should be the same season over season...who's contract is running out, who's declining because of age, can the team on-paper make a deep run, who are the FA's this summer, what draft position do you have, etc.
I'll be interested to see what they think is important this year...I think everyone would agree that if they can make an aren't game with good servers, they won't need to make a new game every year. Just give us an update to soundtrack, rosters, courts, jerseys, all-star courts, and player DNA.

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
I'm tired of playing digital basketball on slicks of bacon grease or whatever causes the god awful slip and sliding.
I swear I've seen players travel like crazy, sliding BOTH FEET once an animation kicks in, and dude is just covering ground like nobody's business.
I won't even get to the atrocities committed when "contact animations," and I use the term loosely, are triggered.
There's a certain level of "come on now....what the hell..." that kicks in when you see that time and time again.
So...I'll get 2K14 if they can find a way to get the player foot planting closer to 2K11, or if Missy Peregrym or Lauren...no, Missy Peregrym AND Lauren Cohan both deliver the game in person. Otherwise, I'll hold onto my $.Comment

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
You're hilarious for that sslicks of bacon comment...ahaaaaaaaaa fml...Anyways, all i want to see is CREW MODe. Better paint defense. Tons of blocked dunk animations. NBA 2k11 foot planting. The return of myplayer pickup games. Better in game GEAR for your myplayers on the court. Customizable logos for my crew/pick up games. Less fouls called on reach in steal attempts. More Crossovers and hesitation moves. More Crossover drops & ankle breaker animations. More rules for online association. A fully integrated TNT color commentary introducing Charles, Kenny, Shaq, EJ,Ernie and Kevin Harlan...Steve Kerr and reggie miller should be included in there as well. More Visible shoes on the court...The shoes just dont stand out...
Upgrade the game engine from 2k11....Stop taking 2k12's and 2k13 engine and trying to make it new....Use what worked for you in the first place....
NO...and i mean this....NO JAY-Z at all.... Keep the soundtrack format that you've guys have been doing forever. OK I'm lying, i like jay-z just like most hip hop fans, but keep his songs to a one track max....we've heard enough to last us til 2k15....
Better Graphics doesnt mean anything anymore unless you can get better than 1080p....so focus more refining the game and making it PLAY better. Defense...offense, transition off/def, rebounding, AI Logic etc...
Also PLease, this a must, THe ability to save playbooks, and options online.....if you guys can get this right then maybe...just maybe thats would make it worth my while to go out and purchase 2k14....not just another cookie cutter product.Comment

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
I've really been thinking about just keeping a save of the NBA season in late April and not get 2k14. The more I think about it, the more I think I really don't need to get it. I'd have updated stats, ratings, and draft class.
I'll have to see what they improve. Just curious to hear what it would take for people to buy next years.

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
Improving the association mode. I didn't really care for 2k12 nor 2k13 after loving 2k11. Not saying it was because of the association, I just wasn't feeling the game anymore. But if they improve the association mode, I would definitely buy 2k14.Comment

Re: What would it take for you to buy 2k14?
I've been purchasing 2k games since dreamcast. I absolutely hate 2k13. I don't understand how it got all the great reviews with the horrible gameplay. When I play on or offline, I hate it. It doesn't feel organic, the amount of control you have is so limited. Seriously it's like the game is playing you, and not the other way around. I'm sorry but I feel like 2k13 is the least fun of the franchise. I'm sure my lil brothers will get it. I'll test it out if they do and go from there. But no reservation for me. Trust me it breaks my heart to even speak about nba2k this way but I'm done. 2k13 is not fun. By this time last year I had at least 200 games in online. I'm 72/49. The game is so one sided and it's evidenced by everyone picking the top 3 teams. In 2k11 I could jump in HOF lobby and would face damn near all 29 teams because you had to have skill in order to play. Now all you have to do is pick MIA, or OKC and hold turbo all the way to the basket. SMDH.Comment
