Chris Smoove makes me laugh a lot. He has so many awesome sound bytes, like "Splash", then the alley-oop music, and "shot-clock cheese." His videos seem professional, and he gets excited during the games, getting viewers excited too.

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
Exactly ... I don't mean to hate on him but all he does is come up the court and do up and under's and on defense he's like "Aaaaaaand I'm gonnna mess with them" and then steal every single inbound pass. He's certainly the one I hate to watch.... Certainly a cheeserComment

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
To me, there's only one good 2K commentator, who of course is called Chris Smoove, so you should try to model your commentary after him. I cannot tolerate any of his imitators, partly because they aren't interesting, and secondly they are just doing the same thing as what made Smoove REALLY famous, his MyPlayer videos. They either sound like a kid, too nasal or like they've just woken up.
You don't need to be a commentator to upload 2K vids though. You could try to do what Da_Czar has done and upload detailed reviews or detailed tutorials although you would need a thorough understanding of basketball and the game itself.
These guys both have personality and are funny which is why their videos are so watchable.
I don't think you can just start off by just imitating these guys. You've got to start off with doing something that few, if any, people are doing. Smoove started out just showing highlights with no commentary for his first few vids, and then he started adding commentary to vids, complaining about 2K's flaws. He made them funny even back then. He then uploaded vids of his online league vids of 2K10, and as well as being a good commentator, he was sim and a good player. He also showed that he could go against popular opinion by praising Live 10 for its interior defense and controls.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
Haha, I used to think QJB was a weirdo but he sorta grew on me. But yeah he does cheese and whenever i hear him say "and im gonna mess wit him" and steals the inbounds pass, I'm like -__- why haha. My favs are Smoove and Gento (YMDtv). They both have their own style like Smoove is very entertaining and funny with his catchphrases that he actually universally uses on other games too! Like "crossing over" and "GIVE THAT GUY A ____" I listened to his super old commentaries and wow what a big difference! Gento too has his own ways of entertainment and I suggest you check him out if you havent yet.
Do you think they all have notes on what to talk about while they are doing their commentary? Like plan it out (most of it) beforehand? That is something I haven't done so maybe I'll do that for my next video. My goal is to improve after each video but I haven't made a new one since then because I just feel like I suck lolMy NBA 2k Blog and VideosComment

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
2010's Chris smoove > 2013's Chris Smoove.
He just feels less and less natural to me even though I used to really love his content. I got bored of all the Myplayer video too. That game mode is just boring, same thing over and over, a superhuman player versus dumb AI.
To answer OP: Just be yourself, propose some original content. If it works it works, if it doesn't move on.Last edited by Vni; 03-03-2013, 04:31 PM.Comment

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
That will always happen to someone who commercialises their content lol. Yeah, watching his MyPlayer footage is getting boring because of the unrealistic gameplay, but his commentary will still get me to watch those vids. His MyTEAM ones are better, because he's playing against human opponents and his latest vid had a great moment at then end of a blowout where he threw about 7 lobs in about 90 seconds.
dCoop makes pretty good videos alsoComment

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
Yup, like you guys said, Smoove's commentary makes up for his unrealistic gameplay at times. I doubt any game in real life will have that much highlights but then again, this is a video game! Who are all your fav YT commentators?
Besides Smoove, are there any other ones you watch?
My list is: YMDtv (Gento) and IpodKingCarter are the other ones I always need to check out lol. sometimes QJB, too.My NBA 2k Blog and VideosComment

I watched a couple of QJB's videos and then I looked at his tags and literally had every big NBA2k commentators name in there. I just really hate people who put other names in THEIR tags.

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
I don't understand all the hate on QJB here. He's entertaining and to me makes the best videos. I still think Smoove has the best commentating and tutorials.
Honestly, it's just natural for some people to be good commentators. You either got it or you don't. You can't learn charisma and character and you gotta sound confident. As far as your player or team... give it a great storyline and don't just win every game and score 50+ points per game.
I have no interest in creating any videos but if I did, I'd try to just do the main highlights and post about 4 games per 10-minute video. Also, throw in some twists, cliff-hangers, drama, and suspense!
Smoove, QJB, and Antodaboss are great but there is still room for improvement. Also, Baef makes some good MLB videos. Love Kevin Bull!Comment

Re: What Makes a Good 2k Commentator To You?
My favourite commentator is definitely Smoove. I also watch Spade and QJB though. I choose Smoove over the others for a few reasons; he is legitimately good at the games he plays, while he does put up great statlines he doesn't necessarily cheese (looking at you QJB), he also has the best catchphrases that span across all his games and one I really like is that he shows when he makes mistakes or stuffs up or other funny events that happen in his games. I used to watch IKC but I stopped due to the fact that he cheeses to an enormous degree and does the same things over and over to get his stats up (also part of the reason I don't watch as many QJB vids anymore).
Spade to me is a very underrated commentator, he delivers in gameplay, he is quite funny, has good catchphrases and also I like his segments outside of his career, such as when he shows us his MyPlayer's house.Comment
