Re: So ... Do you like the signature skills?

I like SS for the most part, with few tweaks they would even be better ... then again, as is with the ratings, tendencies, hot spots and everything roster related ... the assigning of them is what nerf them the most ... in fact, is all these biased/incorrect assignments that when coupled together, produce most of the weirdness we see on court, which could cause the missjudging of some of the features.

Hopefully they realize this and correct these issues before going the route of eliminating features or altering them, instead of the wrong base they are acting upon of.

Maybe we just need better rating /tendency adjustments to balance the signature skills instead of just removing them.

That's exactly why I'd prefer to have sig skills turned into editable ratings.
For example, let's take a shooting skill that reduces shot penalties under certain conditions by a fixed value (shot creator/deadeye/spot up). The bonus a player receives could easily be determined by an editable scaled number (=rating) instead. So let's say we scale this from 0 to 10, where 5 is no bonus/penalty and with every increase/decrease there are some percent penalty/bonus added.

Would have the same effect as the current sig skills, but with more flexibility and the option to turn it off altogether. But I think many people don't even know what skills do and just look at the labels and go "Shot creator is cool because Kobe is a shot creator...Posterizer is realistic because Griffin dunks on people...".

Re: So ... Do you like the signature skills?

Posterizer - I like it because it differentiates dunk-artists with high dunk ratings from power dunkers.

Highlight Film - Bring back the dunk control stick. Remove this.

Finisher - We already have Shoot in Traffic, Strength, Dunk and Layup ratings to determine shooting with contact.

Acrobat - It's nice because it separates players that are creative finishing at the rim and can hit tough layups.

Spot-Up Shooter - Spot on. One of my favorite skills.

Shot Creator - It should only decrease the penalty not completely NULLIFY it.

Deadeye - It's nice because it separates guys who can make tough 3's and guys who mostly take open shots.

          Corner Specialist - Hotzones?

Post Profiency - Like someone pointed above me about the Post Moves in 2k12, it really was much better because then many some players had a go-to move that they were good at. Now a player with Post Profiency can do all the moves better than other players. Also remove Hook and Fadeaway ratings.

Ankle Breaker - This is why we have a Ball Handling attribute.

Post Playmaker - Remove this. Higher Pass and Off. Awareness ratings to good post playmakers (Noah, Gasol, Monroe)

Dimer - Just give good passers higher pass ratings. I don't think that a player has a higher chance to make a shot if the passer is CP3 rather than Kobe?

Break Starter - Correct me if i'm wrong, but if i remember correctly most of the guys that have this skill are also good passing big men (Duncan, Odom, Love). Just increase pass rating.

Alley-Ooper - Increase alley-oop chance and give the player with this skill to throw lobs from halfcourt.

Brick Wall - Maybe player weight and Strength rating could determine the strength of the pick.

Lockdown Defender - Good defenders should just have better On-Ball Defense and Defensive Awareness.

Charge Card - I like this because it gives smart defenders a little advantage in defense (Battier).

Interceptor, Pickpocket, Active Hands - This is why we have Steal, Vertical and Def. Awereness ratings.

Eraser - Remove the effects but give us cooler block animations. Also, players with high Block and Hands ratings should sometimes trigger an animation where the player grabs the ball when he blocks a shot easily

Chasedown Artist - I like it.

Bruiser - One of my favorite skills just tone down the effect a bit because too often players lose their stamina way too quickly when playing against players with this skill.

Hustle Points - We already have Off. Rebound, Vertical, Hands and Hustle ratings.

          Scrapper - Read above.

          Anti-Freeze - Consistency rating?

Microwave - It's alright. Because players like JR Smith are inconsistent but have the occasional game where they can't miss.

Heat Retention - I would like more thoughts on this one.

Closer - Just make the Clutch ratings visible and editable. Remove this. It's too CHEESE.

Defensive Anchor - Players with this skill should just be good defensive players who increase your team's players Def. Awareness when they are on the floor.

What a long post. Just wanted to post my thoughts because Sig. Skills can make this MUCH better, they just need to be refined.

Nobody does it consitently. There are just players who take thoses shots and players who don't.

Re: So ... Do you like the signature skills?

I like signature skills because they show a players ability that isn't depicted by the overall. Also I think it makes the game a little more interesting and is a great marketing scheme.

However, I do think some are stupid and pointless like Highlight Reel and Posterizer that's just too flashy it's not focused on the actual game.

                • Shot Creator should be a slightly adjusted shot off dribble.

That isn't the same thing though. SC gives a boost for creating more space for the shot than was originally there
                • Deadeye should be a new rating called "Shoot Against Tight Defense" (Well not really named that but that would be nice.) Because SIT doesn't do it justice.)

                  Yeah either or

                • Alley Ooper should allow the player to throw long range lobs from past half court and beyond.

Haven't tried this but would it improve accuracy for that?
                • Lockdown defender should be ratings based (On ball defense) and/or not disable ALL offensive skills. You see clutch players knocking down shots over defensive icons in the league all the time. And for some reason Lockdown defender doesn't disable brick wall.

Idk I like the fact that lockdown really has that kind of impact
                • Ankle breaker is already tied to ball handling. No need for this skill.

                  Makes sick handles even sicker
                • Interceptor and Pick Pocket should be tied to the steal rating or just the steal rating.

I've used these both a lot and it's basically just giving you a ratings boost for steal success and jumping for the steal, etc. I got no problem with it because it helps differentiate the good from the great in specific skill areas
                • Eraser is dumb. First off, doesn't every block cause a player to lose some confidence? In fact, in real life when a shorter player blocks a shot, the shooter usually loses more confidence than when a tall player does. Secondly, Eraser should do something else like increase chance of blocked layups and dunks.

I use Eraser A LOT and I could tell you it does work. Not only can I contest shots better but I'm getting way more blocks with it
                • Bruiser is glitched and useless. It just makes all the big men have to come out of the game with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. Take it out of the game.

                  Haven't tried this one
                • Closer should be a clutch rating. Plain and simple. Not everybody is the same in the clutch.

                Haven't tried this one

Anyway I think sig skills are great but like you pointed to there is some redundancy. But there's going to be some redundancy between attributes and sig skills. What it does is differentiate the good rebounders from the great rebounders, etc.

Anything that gives the game more individuality between players and teams is a plus in my book. Sig skills definitely does that. I think some of the shooting ones should be toned down a bit because when you start to combine them it can get pretty cheesy, especially on blacktop. Combo of shooting sigs + eurostep glitch = ultimate cheese in blacktop. Tone 'em down, tweak 'em, but definitely keep this for 2k14 cuz it makes the game more true to life and gives each player more realistic individuality.

Bruiser should include players that like to give hard fouls to prevent easy baskets. They use the "no layups" policy. Give them border line flagrant looking animations.
                    bruisers doing bruiser stuff:

(btw this flagrant 1 call was overturned in game, and ruled a common foul. KD gave him dap too after that.)

Anyways, I'm fine with SS, but Closer is slightly off, you don't auto-clutch usually someone gets hot AND then you become clutch. That's what Closer/Go To Guy/Whatever it should be called, should do.
i think they should have levels like my player you know..? but it will never be perfect people argue that clutch is based on luck but i actually like that the thing is people like to force shots just cuz melo or kobe has closer and that pisses me off cuz they make it... if you see real games clutch shots are mostly open

I honestly dislike them, everyone says that they make it more true to character, but I honestly don't see any difference in play between someone with or without Sig Skills. Maybe finisher may make you make more layups, but isn't there a layup stat? How about make stats more diverse and interactive? The only Sig Skills I like are Ankle Breaker, Posterizer, and Highlight Reel.

they would matter a lot more if the gameplay was challenging. I see people online do whatever they want regardless of sig skills their players have. Most don't even understand them but you don't need to know sig skills to win easily.
