Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
I always play on ball D, I guess one reason why is I just don't trust my computers to guard real players, not to mention how easy it can be to get past them.
One example by not trusting them is when this guy I was facing was going off and I was lagging so I switched to my center to guard the paint, he comes up the court and hits a wide open 3 because my PG (Curry at the time) was no where to be seen, can't trust em.
And it's more of a challenge IMO, even if i'm lagging i'll still do my best to guard on ball.Say "Oooooh."Comment

Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
Lol, I just don't see how someone can just allow the CPU to play their defense while they sit on someone that isn't a threat on offense or a big. It's just seems natural to just switch on someone and guard them.
Even if I was a horrible onball defender, I feel like I would rather run a zone and play to the closest defender to the ball or double team, than sitting on someone watching the CPU play my D.

As I stated earlier there is a hesitation when you switch to a player especially if they're in motion.
"if you don't play on-ball defense, you should probably just return the game and go play something like kirby's adventure"
Can I have your copy (Kirby's Adventure) so I can trade it toward NBA 2K14?Last edited by keshunleon; 05-27-2013, 09:34 AM.True bout my business, Mane!Comment

Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
A combination of both. Organized basketball is not a 1 on 1 game and should not be played as such. Keeping up with Reggie Miller off ball preventing him from getting open was one of the most difficult things to do in the history of the league. Denying Shaq the ball in the post was difficult. Off ball defense matters. For me im on ball about 70-80 percent of the time. It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.Comment

Even better, if you don't play on-ball D, you should just get it over with and have that sex change.Originally posted by Dogslax41Most people that are asking for a simulation game don’t really want a simulation game because its too hard.Comment

Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
I play against the computer 99% of the time so I'm able to play on-ball and feel good about it. By that I mean, the computer usually provides a challenge for me, but their game is steady enough to allow me to defend on ball without getting the feeling that they're ramrodding or glitching their way through me.
My only human vs. human experience comes against my brother and in that case, I seem to be a terrible onball-vs.-human defender. With a good point guard he often seems to be able to electronic football his way past me if I'm standing upright or he'll often just sprint past me if I'm in a defensive stance. And if he blows past me while I'm in that defensive stance, my defender seems to be stuck in mud and refuses to even attempt to recover. The cherry on top is that my help defense always seems to be very slow in response and the game often delays in allowing me to switch to them for help on the drive.
So in that case, there's certainly times where it seems my brother is just going into "dribble straight and initiate sprint at just the right time" mode where it just doesn't seem like a good idea for me to stay on ball. So in those cases, I'll switch off ball until he cools his straight-line jets a little. It also pains me when I have clearly played tremendous on-ball defense, keeping the player completely in front of me, only for an animation to kick in that magically warps me behind the offensive player as he initiates an inside move. Or, if they're attempting the straight-line drive and basically running in place into my stationary defense, thus leading me to try to draw a charge before he glitches around me, I always seem to get whistled for the blocking call because he's already moving (running in place).
A big part of my issue is, I wish to be reward for playing good basketball defense as opposed to mastering the NBA 2K13 video game way of playing defense. I recognize there'll always be a difference between real and fictional defensive strategy, but the void seems a bit wide in user vs. use 2K13.Last edited by VDusen04; 05-27-2013, 01:50 PM.Comment

Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
Its all good either way. No right or wrong way to play defense. However, the most dangerous player on the court is not always the one with the ball. Focusing on the ball handler 100 percent of the time can get your defense killed. Pick and rolls, Cuts to the basket, off ball screen plays, deep low post position, and other misdirection plays are hard to defend on ball. The goal is to to prevent the other team from scoring, not to see who is most like Avery Bradley.
Nothing funnier than watching someone call an iso on the wing, sending their center to the top of the key, and then getting mad when you take your center to help out on the iso as their center stands at the three point line doing nothing.

Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
excellent on ball defense isnt possible in this game any more. To much magnetic D and sliding on the court. Defenders are stuck in mud when trying to provide help D and CPU teammates are dummies and wont help out or stick to someone they are supposed to be guarding "tightly"#SIMNATION

Re: Do you play ON-BALL DEFENSE? Say why or why not
It depends on the team, Like against Miami I play a 2-3 when Ray Allen is on the bench but 3-2 when he is in. Also I control the center and hover in the paintComment
