That transition D is huge. I exploit that online all the time. From the half court line to somewhere on the wing. Before the D is set wing jumpers are not well contested.

The double teaming is ineffective, and more often than not leaves your D more vulnerable. If KD gets through your double team at the 3 point line, your bigs just take a minute to whip up a sno-cone they can cordially hand him en route to the easy layup. They just watch him.

The focus on stars is a joke for this reason. (nothing worse than seeing your 4 start trotting from under the basket towards westbrook bringing the ball up court)

The rotations are poor. The only way to play good D is to try and control all 5 players. I've played against guys online who can do this, but to me this is too much to ask of the player. Seems like the AI is intentionally dumb on rebounding and D, maybe to encourage on ball D? Anyway it's overboard.

And seriously, 2K, remove the 1-3-1 zone from the game. What a joke.

Great posts guys, hopefully some devs have checked this thread out and watched a couple of examples, they may be aware of this thread and see what we the community are talking about when we criticize the game.

Defense has given me so much ire. I recently sold this game because I honestly could not take it anymore. For two years now the latest installments have been more infuriating and frustrating than they have been fun. Contesting shots and going flying to the side of the shooter drove me absolutely insane. Right stick defense being unresponsive. No contact on 90% of the up and under's performed in the paint. And I won't even bother addressing the rubber banding AI.


I'm actually hoping that EA's Live branch somehow becomes a compotent developer overnight and puts out a decent enough product to light a fire under 2K's rear end. It's absolutely mind boggling how terrible something as fundamental as contesting and getting back on defense is.

2k has a ton of issues on D, but honestly, if they just fixed the defense on interior passes on 2k14, I'd be completely satisfied. It's WAY too easy to pass the ball to a man standing right under the bucket. The ball actually goes right through the defender sometimes. All interior passes should come from post feeds, unless the man is wide open. It's completely unrealistic for a man to be standing right under the basket while his defender is standing right beside him with no interaction, and you can just pass it to him from free throw line extended with ease.
