Getting the roster right from day one!

One of the most annoying things about basketball games, i.e. NBA 2k, is that they never ever have the roster right from scratch. The question is why?? Does it have to do with contracts like unguaranteed ones and rookies not signed by the date they stop editing the roster (beginning of August I think they always state the roster is based on)? Also free agent list is also at times full of guys that have a team overseas and are way too old yet some guys who recently played and could still play are not in the game? Just trying to figure out why..

There isn't any excuse for not having the correct rosters. Last year they didn't include any 2nd round rookies.

When you start up the game it usually says "Rosters accurate as of X August" or something. It's been like that since NBA Live 95, which means if someone hasn't signs after that, they can't add them to the core game.

some of it just deals with the fact they want to get them game out early. so sacrifices, like accurate rosters, have to be made.

So you're telling me that ALL first round picks (with the exception of Teague in Chicago) were signed when the game was shipped last year, but NONE of the second rounders (with the exception of Taylor in Charlotte) were signed yet?

I find it hard to believe that 2K had "accurate" rosters the day the game was shipped.

Seems like there's no good reason, I've always wondered why they also don't use the real rules: off-season limit is 20 players so just include all these partially guaranteed contracts and all on the team by that date in August and problem solved!

Re: Getting the roster right from day one!

In 2K13 it states that the rosters are accurate as of August 3rd, 2012, but with Leftos Roster Editing tool we were able to find out that infact all the 2nd round draft picks were in fact on the game disk (they were just hidden) as were other free agents and certain players (Julyan Stone, Mychal Thompson, Donald Sloan) to name a few. I would guess that will also be the case with 2K14, that the draft picks that aren't signed by August will be hidden as well as possible free agents and players that are overseas and still on the game disk that haven't played in 2-3 years (James Posey for example).

The rosters out of the box with 2K are as accurate as you can get given their early August deadline, plus free agency pretty much has died down by that time, with the exception of a few player movements. What I would advise roster makers to do is to keep a list of all training camp invites as well as undrafted rookies and the top d-league prospects for potential CAPS that will need to be created and made when the game is released. Other then that I would have to venture that again any 1st or 2nd round draft picks that you don't see on a team or free agency are most likely hidden on the game disk by 2K due to they have not signed a guaranteed contract yet, but if we are fortunate enough to have someone create a Roster editing tool like Leftos did last year for 2K14 we will be able to distinguish and find out who is hidden on the game disk and who was ultimately left off the game disk by 2K.

His mid-range is 80 if it makes you feel better, and in the next 2k his midrange should be 75 i think

I would imagine they have to lock the build once it goes into submissions, which is probably right around the beginning of August.
