Which is a better game? I don't know. You can make arguments for 13 but which is a more realistic representation of the NBA? That's 2K11 hands down.

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
The short answer for me is that it felt like a brand new model. Like when a car company introduces a new design.
From the MJ hype to the intro/game you jumped right into the first time you turned it on. A lot of wow factor and solid gameplay to back it up over the long haul. 2k12 and 2k13 definitely have aspects that are much more refined but they've both failed to deliver that "now this is a huge step up" feeling. They've both been give and take with their pro's and con's.
2k7 had that type of a jump and while a lot of people say 2k8 was a much better game, to me it didn't deliver that next level feeling.Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
While I think the series got better each year ( as a whole ). But one thing I liked about 11 was the left stick control. Xovers, stutter crosses, and just direction changes were very responsive and effective tools against the D(CPU). Advanced controls were icing on the cake.
The hardest thing about moving to the new release every year is giving up your favorite nuances of the game to learn the new one. I'm never burned out on the previous years game when the new one hits.
Note to VC: to make people happy that want to be in complete control every spilt second, maybe make those moves interruptible at realistic points in the animation. for example Jordans signature escape (well done by the way) was a dribble move then a hop step to the side into a gather for the shot. as he starts his dribble make it where I can branch into another move, cross over, explode out etc. or if the D responds as expected I can let the move play out and pull up for the J. every one is happy. but don't let the you tubers and vocal nitpickers bully you out of things you have done well.Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
The signature gathers in 2011 were done really well. It really gave alot of individuality to the players and amped up the fun factor. It really takes away from the immersion when everyone has the same moves as in 2013.
Adding signature styles with balanced signature skills would really put the game over the top. Do we even know if signature style is in 2014. When they announced the features for 2014 they mentioned it. I have yet to see it. Hopefully some of the 3000 plus animations were utilized for this. Chris Paul should not be able to dribble like Derrick Rose.Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
I downloaded the demo the other day then played NBA 2K13, and I realize that there was sooooo many things that they did right DEFENSIVELY. I always felt that I was in control, and it was never a feeling where I felt I was compensating for everything that the AI WASN'T doing.
In NBA 2K13, the offense only has to worry about the one player, and occasional boneheaded cut to the basket. On defense, you had to worry about the ballhandler, worry poor defensive spacing, worry about your teammates leaving their man open, getting caught on screens, worry about your teammates being in good rebounding position, and worry about being yanked around by poor animations. After doing all this worrying and overcompensating, it meant NOTHING, because you couldn't block the damn shot!Last edited by ksuttonjr76; 09-23-2013, 01:19 PM.Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
Yep.
Been playing 2k11 a lot lately since my 2k13 broke, and while 2k13 is miles ahead offensively (except bursts of speed out of crossovers) , it doesn't have anything on 2k11 defensively...
Your AI teammates generate turnovers, rotate correctly and there is rarely an instance where you are in position and there isn't contact made...
It was so fun patrolling the paint with Dwight Howard knowing that I was feared shot blocker...I knew I could impact drives to the lane and not get that shot in mid air animation when trying to challenge a shot...Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
2K11 was great because it made the biggest improvement from it's predecessor. It's more nostalgia than anything though. 2K11 was very fun but it's just silly when people act like it didn't have it's share of big problems as well. Maybe not to the level of 2K12, but people (including myself) were a lot of times angry with 2K11 just like people are with 2K13 now.Comment

What made 2k11 such a great game?
Well 2K did alot of touch-ups with the gameplay... making the most balanced 2K we've seen to date. Defense was able to stop offense, offense was able to beat defense, what it came down to was stick skills and strategy, either way you could get the win.
13 offline > 11 imo
Now we hear this exact methodology from 2K yet all you hear is about how the game is the same as 13... blah blah blah... this is what we want... to fix the gameplay issues, then move on to adding 'extra fluff'. 14 will be >>>> than 11 on all fronts imo., only 1 more week y'all."Most people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them"Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
I'm not saying 2K11 wasn't great or that it wasn't an improvement over 2K10, because it was a huge improvement. I'm just saying sometimes on here people act as if 2K11 was the godsend of basketball video games when it was just as fallible as the more recent games that have been released. It's part of the reason 2K12 was such a disappointment.Comment

Re: What made 2k11 such a great game?
What made 2K11 such a great game FOR ME:
-Classic teams.
This was a big selling point for me. 2K did a great job getting as many players from the Jordan era in the game as they could. The Jordan Challenge was a good mode, but I wasn't a big fan of having to hit all those goals because it took the focus off just playing the game (2K fixed this in 2K12 by removing individual goals for Greatest Mode and you just had to win the game) and instead, the focus was on getting MJ his points, rebounds, steals, etc.
-Signature gathers.
This helped give each player a unique feel. I liked that they were mapped to the Y button, too, so that you didn't have to memorize a Mortal Kombat-esque sequence to get them to happen in-game.
-Defense.
Was a bit overpowered, but I'd rather have it that way than being able to drive the paint with ease.
-Smoothness of jump shots.
I didn't feel like I was fighting the controls when I used the Shot Stick.
Ah, the days where you could just go to 2K Share and download an edited roster. Thanks to portlandblazer and mkharsh33, uses had access to 20 years' worth of full classic rosters. That makes the replayability of this game HUGE for a guy like me that grew up watching 80's-90's hoops. PB would be able to add more detail to the classic teams in 2K12 but sadly, he did not create any rosters for 2K13 due to all the restrictions on 2K Share.Currently Playing:
