To be completely fair though, I think him admitting that and continuing with his review is a good thing, depending on what angle he took (I haven't read it.)

Sports game companies can't just focus on making the game 100% "sim." It's still a video game that costs them plenty of money to make so they have to have a fun factor for those that aren't basketball nuts, of which there are plenty.

I love basketball, but despise watching the NBA except for the Finals. I keep up with it for other reasons, but watching a regular season game is pretty ****ty to me. I appreciate when a sports game tries to mimic the real thing more and more but that does limit your audience. Basically I think what I'm saying is: not every review needs to come from a hardcore NBA fan. It's good to get an everyman's opinion on these games as well for the fun factor - it may open up another audience.

That Bleacher Report review is the epitome of hype. Wow. Let's hope the game is so good.

IGN's review was as generic a review as I've seen. They give it a 9.3 without so much as even mentioning MyCareer, THE most played mode? I take it there weren't many changes to MyCareer at all, otherwise we would have been told about them by now. A different control scheme for dribbling/shooting and blocking dunks are solid gameplay tweaks. They are not a selling point, and unfortunately this year they(along with LBJ Path to Greatness) are selling points. If you were to take away the HUD and cut out all replays/not pause while playing 2k14, I honestly can't say whether or not I would mistake it for 2k13 because that's how similar they look game play-wise.

I'll be the first to sing 2k's praises if next gen is amazing, but it appears that current gen came up a bit short this year.

It's not a selling point for YOU.

For some of us, what happens on the court is most important....

They could have the most fleshed out modes in sports video game history, but if it had 2k12's gameplay, I couldn't care less...

It's fine if you feel differently, but you can't just fit everyone onto the same group,,

That being said, the review was definitely generic, but I don't put too much stock in any review, good or bad..

Re: NBA 2K14 Reviews From Around the Web

Honestly, rarely will any of these reviewers actually be good at playing the game or playing basketball and they usually review the game without actually playing online. Therefore the review is useless to us that strictly are concerned about gameplay and multiplayer. How many great reviews did we see about 2k12/13 and both of those games could at time be a cheesing mess with b.s. unrealistic tactics being just as or usually more effective then comprehensive basketball strategy. No demo was a big disappointment and I am thinking about passing altogether and sticking with fifa until next gen because I have lost trust in this franchise and its reviews the last couple of years.

IGN's review is out and they gave 2K13 a higher rating but he said 2K14 is the best NBA game ever.

How did I know Gamespot would give them an 8

Has IGN ever given a sports game that high of a grade, that's just incredible. IGN hates sports games. It has to be good if even their impressed.

These reviews are confusing the hell out of me. From what i've seen this game doesnt deserve more than 8.5. all these 9's are shallow.

How you gonna call a game that adverstised "blocking shots/dunks" has a new feature the greatest basketball game ever?

No improvements made on the main game modes?

Sure they improved the gameplay and it's cool and all but uh....

Re: NBA 2K14 Reviews From Around the Web

Who still believes reviewers, especially big sites/corporations? How can 2K11 be a 9/10 and 2K12 gets the same 9 out of 10.

When you write a bad review you won't be invited to all the cool events, people will avoid you, won't send you cool gifts/packages to enjoy anymore. So why would anyone in their right mind be honest and write a decent review?

It's the same with car magazines. People have been banned (Chris Harris - Ferrari) because he wrote something they didn't like.

And then you get to the point (like others addressed) that a lot of reviewers aren't familiar with the sport, don't know the players, don't know anything how it should work. Some reviewer even mentioned it for 2K14 that he isn't familiar whatsoever.

GEEZ - sorry to point this out on your post, but it's supremely irritating to see some of you keep regurgitating this nonsense.

THEY DIDN'T ADVERTISE BLOCKING SHOTS/DUNKS AS A NEW FEATURE.

They attempted to let the community know one of the community's concerns was being addressed about not being able to block dunks - which was mainly a damn online problem from people wanting to play any and everybody, that many here complained incessantly about. Don't know why devs should say anything when many of you twist will twist what's supposed to be informational into a negative.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Hope what we are reading is Truth. This could be the year where Great Defensive players & Strong Pick & Roll players have a much Bigger Impact on game outcome.

Also this Qoute: "Even Ray Allen and Kyle Korver miss open shots sometimes. In NBA 2K13, good-to-great shooters were nearly automatic when they were left open. If you missed an open three, it was probably because you misjudged the release point."

More realistic shooting will be Huge. Definite BUY.....Trade up for $10 with Next Gen. Off Tuesday. Can't wait.

Thant you for posting reviews. More Please
