Re: Why do I keep missing Open Three's.

I always try to imagine them sim heads playing a game and missing a wide open jumper:

"aw shucks wide open , couldve used the basket but i love what 2k is doing "

    ehh

    could never be me

What's wrong with realising that not every open shot in real life goes in? Even Ray Allen and Kyle Korver miss open threes.

Even a great shooter missed now and again. Whats you percentage for the season?

Dood it's Melo man. He does that in real life.

Not every open shot goes down. Steph Curry, widely considered one of the greatest 3pt shooters ever already, missed MORE than half of his three point attempts last year. Shooters miss shots.

Man i got pissed off listening to this clowns video.

"I hate this game with a passion so far". Yet he has already played 37 games

"You can't make a videogame based on real life". According to who???

An ideal to 2k to him would probably be scoring 100 points with Lebron every match, shooting contested threes or dunking every possession.

Now, if you continually shoot 20-30% on wide open shots, then you have a problem.
Actually potentially the best ever made a little above 45%. 40% is considered quite good. This is generally taking good and open shots. Hardly anyone takes contested 3's in the NBA if they can help it.

3's are fine in the game if you play smart and know your releases. Not every open 3 should be automatic and should be like 60% from the corner at best, ie, Curry.

I do like missing threes. Not when I'm losing and need it of course, but I like when it happens sometimes. I LOVE it when it happens with the CPU. It does feel like the CPU makes more open 3's, but that has to be my imagination, because usually I shoot at a higher percentage and keep the CPU at 40% or below.

Oh God, I remember this dude. Watched his 'defense tutorial' last year hoping to learn some new tricks. Then he benched Bosh and put Allen in at PF... this dude is King of Cheese.

Love the rant where he states that 2K should build the game to be 'skilled based' rather than 'sim'/realistic. If that was the point, why bother having any player ratings???

Of course you realize that the flip side of this (and the point that shookya unskillfully tried to make) is: if everything is ratings/percentage based, why bother having player input?

What he was saying is that if you know your personnel, execute the correct play to get your best shooters open shots, and have the skill to achieve a perfect release with those shooters, the result shouldn't feel as random as it sometimes does.

No one wants to play a game in which contested shots go in 80% of the time just because someone's nice on the sticks, but no one wants to watch a die roll represented by a bunch of pretty animations either.

The real problem is that shot feedback creates a false perception of a skill-based outcome that isn't proportionate with actual results. With the indicator turned off, it's easy to use your imagination to fill in the reason for a miss (in his example, "muscle spasms"). But, if something tells you that every part of your shot was flawless (receiving an A+ grade has an established cultural meaning of having exceeded expectations), it's entirely logical to assume that the result would be as well.

Hopefully I've cleared up his rant for anyone who thought it was purely anti-sim. I'm not trying to argue with you or anyone else, but when I see people piling on based mostly on someone's unpopularity, it triggers my instinct to mediate.
