Sorry about the lack of insight, but I haven't had much time for the game lately, my professional life has been getting in the way. I assure you that I'm coming up with plenty of feedback, though. I can analyse things very quickly, I normally take only 3 quarters of a game to see how a slider set works in the short term. I use the Association mode for long term analysis.

Re: Mr.Mars NBA 2K8 (PS2) Sliders (Absolute Final Set)
See if you like this slider set, it has given me the best game of basketball so far. I only have a few minor problems with it, such as the CPU suddenly forgetting how to play basketball in the 4th quarter, and thus being blown out in that quarter. I think it might be related to Clutch settings, but I'm not sure. It may also be hard-coded in the late game AI.

Re: Mr.Mars NBA 2K8 (PS2) Sliders (Absolute Final Set)
CX,
Thanks for the feedback. This game has me so frustrated right now, you think you got the settings just right cuz they tease with a couple of really good games, then they pull the rug out from under you with lousy ones.
For instance, the fast break engine is broken on any level other than pro, but the defense is on pro is like; forget it! I made some pretty good Pro sliders but they really only worked in association games due to the Association logic inherent in the game (ie. Team Chemistry, fatigue, Injuries, etc...)
The lack of perimeter fouls by the CPU is a problem. It seems the CPU does not play very good perimeter defense, and it is too easy to get good looks on the perimeter. Also, the forces you to go down low because of the seemingly programmed stretches of absolute futility shooting from user.
I was playing a second round playoff game against the wizards, and i was up 18 going in to the 4th qtr. I was shooting 58% going into that quarter, and then it happened... I went 4 for 26 and ended up losing by 8. Now don't get me wrong I know that teams on occasion blow big leads, but there always seems to be a point in the game that no matter how good you execute you just can't get a shot to fall. When that happens you are forced to use exploits to try to circumvent it. That means dropping the ball down low, drop-step power dunk. you either make the dunk and get fouled or miss the dunk and get fouled.
I have one idea and experiment left. If this doesn't work, I guess i'll just have to wait until I upgrade to to the 360. What I am going to try is a combination of defensive player edits along with tweaking the defensive team sliders, and game sliders if necessary, so I can go back to Pro level which seems to be the most realistic game play level.
I intend to raise every players contest shot tendency to some where between 70-80 and edit defensive awareness by a factor of 30 - 40 percent. Then, I will increase all 3, 4 and 5's low-post defense by the same factor above.
I will try to come up with 4 base defensive team slider settings. These will represent elite, good, average and poor, the I will assign each team to one of the settings based on current seasons defensive statistics. For example, the top 5 get elite, the next 10 get good, the next 10 get average and the bottom 5 get poor. These will be enhanced so that even the poor setting teams will play defense better they did on the base settings.
The settings will consist of Def. Pressure, Help Strength and Recovery, Fouling and Contest Shot team sliders.
I hope that this along with the player edits will get the CPU to play better defensively, on the lower game play level. Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Re: Mr.Mars NBA 2K8 (PS2) Sliders (Absolute Final Set)
No, I am afraid not carlito. I have given up tweaking this game. I tried just about everything I can. I get a great game every so often, but most games are pretty predictable. Hence;
I start out on fire, cool off and win
I start out on fire, turn ice cold and lose
I start off on fire, stay on fire and blow the CPU out
I start off cold as ice, heat up and win
I start off cold as ice, stay cold and lose
Oh, and there is the ocasional ,"both teams cant throw it in the ocean" game. It never feels like I cant do something because the opponent is too skilled to allow it to occur. I can play the same style with any team and win 90% of the time. When I lose it's never about the other team actually playing better than me, it's always a shooting percentage thing. The CPU decides when I shoot to put a lid on the rim.
I am about a month away from getting my PS3 and I will use the plethora of sliders, rosters and team edit suggestions hoping to get better gameplay at the next level.
Thanks for trying my sliders...
Peace

Re: Mr.Mars NBA 2K8 (PS2) Sliders (Absolute Final Set)
I use to be in the same boat as you. I bought this for the PS2 1st because it was sold out for the next gen in my area. But I spent quite a long time working on sliders for the PS2 version. Kind of hard to do on the PS2 version because it is missing some key sliders that the PS3 and 360 have. But I added my settings in red.

Re: Mr.Mars NBA 2K8 (PS2) Sliders (Absolute Final Set)
Interesting, just to clarify, are your sliders CPU/User or User/CPU? The reason I ask is that the way it appears the User has an advantage over the CPU.
As far as the Dunks in Traffic I always had it kind of low to keep games from becoming a dunkfest. My goal when creating these sliders were to try to get a close to a sim game as I could.
I still think that the PS2 version has issues that sliders wont fix. It appears at least with PS3/360 versions the changes that are all over this fourm actually do make a difference in gameplay.
The PS2 problem is lack of defensive intensity by the CPU, and trying to get the cpu to make more than one pass before the shot comes. So what ends up happening is that the CPU doesnt work the shot clock, worst of all when you play good man-to-man defense and force passes out of CPU they end up making a prayer at the shot clock buzzer. This is mad frustrating.
I'll give them a try though, I've tried everything else. If you could just clarify my first question and maybe even post some stats from a game or 2 so I can get an idea how these sliders are working out for you. The only thing I wonder about is the Close shot setting, I anticipate FG%'s in the upper 60's with it at 50+. Right now I have my shooting sliders as follows:
User/CPU
Close 42/43
Med 46/47
3pt 47/48
dunk 48/48
layup 58/68
FT 35/40
Peace

Yeah sorry about the confusion there. 1st number is human and second number is for the cpu. Also on a side note, for the team sliders, put every team reach at 85. That will make them reach.
I played 3 games today with the team reach at 85 and I noticed a lot more steal attempts by the cpu along with some more fouls. Now the cpu as a team averages about 7 or 8 steals a game.
Now when playing against a good team defense then yeah it will be higher. Like one game I was the Suns against the Hornets. Chris Paul had 8 points 13 assists 7 steals. I still lost that game because even though I was able to shut down Chris Paul from scoring, David West had 24 points 13 rebounds 4 assists 3 blocks.
Also you have to do roster edits ( either rashidis, Nogsters, etc). Team sliders ( chia, beetlebum, Nogster, etc). I tried them all and pretty much every one of them is about 97% accurate.
They be off on some players and teams. But thats minor and won't take long to correct.

Re: Mr.Mars NBA 2K8 (PS2) Sliders (Absolute Final Set)
oh about the FG% yeah it be about 54% and sometimes as high as 62%. However if you did the roster edits and team sliders too, the score still be around 106 points a game range.Comment

Yeah....you just have to discipline yourself not to go for the steal all the time. Or simpley lower the Rip success for the user down to 40.Comment
