I think I have a pretty good guess. When you boost cards, you won't notice a visual change on your tier level. However, it is there. For example, yesterday, someone boosted some players without changing their positions. So while they were at Ultra Rare++ visually, their team was actually in Epic. When they pulled their reset, the tier still visually showed Ultra Rare, but the Epic reset was pulled. I believe the opposite happened to you.
If you boost a bunch of guys, move a player, you will see the visual tier match up to what it actually is. However, if you didn't pull a reset within that first game, boosts may have been disappearing. And perhaps by now you guessed it, but the visual tier indicator goes both ways. By the time you pulled your reset, you were only visually showing the higher tier. Had you moved a position, it would have shown you were in a lower tier by the time that reset card was pulled.

I drafted foil terry porter epic, and I already have a foil version of him which I got from a pack.
Now when I pro him, he'll remain a foil and I'll still be able to sell him.
