They tried doing that, and failed. So...it is what it is. Spend money or grind out thousands-tens of thousands of games to get a deck that still won't compete in a season unless you draw real lucky

I think I've played in about 18 seasons, I've won 11 or 12. My record is 18k/2k. I've never spent any money. I've only ever tanked 1 season, which was more than half bots. So it is possible but not easy.

Sounds like you've had some real lucky draws with season opponents and drafting. Take a screenshot of your LU?

Its a grinding/money milking phone app, which "game" aspect at this stage is very questionable. If you understand that, your "expectations" should be adjusted accordingly.

There wasn't any argument about that. The point was, and still is, is you either grind like a madman, or spend like a madman, preferably both. Until you do that - you won't have a kind of deck, that makes seasons mode "fare" or "competitive" on any level. Just a crap shoot (which it is still sometimes for me, and i have over 4500K across the board deck)

Ok so what do you guys do if you see early on 2 guys you know u cant beat in the playoffs? U just go for the tank or u go as far as u can. This is obviously for the guys who actually lose seasons lol. Because i just ran into yet another beasty guy in my season 25 games in. So i shouldnt even waste my time trynna win games or whatever right? Just let the season play out?

Play out the season. If you can, try to place 2nd so you won't have to face him before the finals. For some reason I have 4 finals losses, and 2 of those I got epics... One was Ibaka that I was able to pro. I also have a 2nd and 3rd round losses for which I got an epic. But rarely does it happen.

I posted in this forum (maybe a month ago) the beast team in my season slept in the playoffs and got ousted in the first round. I ended up winning that season. I remember Shokase enjoyed that post. So who knows you might get lucky.

I have played 27 seasons... About to win for the 19th time. (I joined since November)
I have bought 7 epic packs (During the superbowl) for which I got no legends, but got 2 john starks and Detlef shrempf to make 2 epic pros that I no longer use in my lineup. Drafted 1 legend Nique, and got a lot of help from Rivals rewards/drafted epic pros.

After decide to get a first round exit this season because there's one guy who I can't beat (my LU is the second more strong), ten minutes before the 4th game in the first round of playoffs I've seen that the guy is 1-2 loosing. Decided to recharge all players to see if he's sleeping or what.

Incredibly he just lose the first round 1-4, so now I think I can win the season (he is the only who beated me with my LU fully charged). This could be my 8th season in a row!

Pretty much nailed it on the head with you last sentence. This is a pay to win game and I saw a post from nwgamedad that confirmed that thought for me. Someone had asked If they were going to lower the price on epic packs, and he said something along the line of they're happy with the pricing if epic packs at this time, and there won't be a change. Of course they're happy when you got people paying 100 upon 1000 of dollars for epic cards because they want a legendary. And I won't even touch how much they probably make during rivals for hot streaks

From a business point of view the way this game lures the user into spending it's something to praise.

From the user point of view it's excruciating what you need to put into the game to have any success (if you are just a tad competitive).


The following are keys of this model with approximate numbers, not exact but accurate enough:

1. You can get most of the best rares in the game with hard/casual playing. 2-3 hours per day.

You have fun collecting them but winning seasons with them is a different story.
With the best rares now you cant win many seasons. In the first 2 months you had much more chances than nowadays.
Remark here that the devs are fixing the matchmaking so casual gamers will increase their chances. Maybe they find that users that have not wasted yet are lured into expending when they receive their first epics.


Now to enter the wheel of success and increase your chances of being the truck of your season, that's another story:

2. You can say that to draft an epic you need 2000 draft picks, that's 1000 quick games won, 500 minutes playing, 8 hours!

Now you need to pro that single epic and having more than a hundred as possibilities.... Hard to make numbers here but you can guess that's not easy, and now with the different versions it's even harder.

But you have the chance to buy packs to increase your % of pro'ing those epics.

3. Legendaries: again those are aprox numbers but more or less, 10000 games gives you a nice chance to draft one, that's 20000 draft picks, or 5000 minutes.. 83 hours!!

Or splash the cash for a chance to get one (not assured). To give a known example 10.000$ won't assure you to complete the collection.

4. Rivals clashes: This will give you nice rewards, but the top tiers are maddening. Ex. top 50 takes aprox 27000 points, 5400 games, 2700 mins, 45 hours. In this case 7,5 hours per day during 6 days...


Again, hats off from a business point of view, I've been a gamer my whole life and haven't seen nothing like what's happening in this game.

I will second that, i still only win 1 out of 4 seasons and i've got 3.8 to 4k stats. Always someone with a better deck, unless you spent 10k.

Decided to try my luck today with an epic pack and pulled Carmelo. Would rather have a PG or SG but I guess I'll just play him out of position. This should put me over the top in my current season.

I am not that guy but I have won 9 of 14 seasons I've been in. I am not probably among the heaviest grinders and I have spent no money on the game. My lineup is in the season discussion thread which I am hoping we get more activity on. I had my share of luck probably in getting seasons I could win but I was also fairly deliberate in when I chose to play. I made sure I could energize through the playoffs as needed. Made sure to not immediately start seasons after, especially if I did just lose the season. I chose times I believe I was least likely to get paired against monster decks based on number of people playing at the time (estimated), which is why my total number of seasons played isn't that high. While my lineup is in that post I won 7 of my seasons with just 1 epic pro (Lamarcus Aldridge) and rare pros for the rest. I'd do the switch in point guards thing in some seasons as needed. So it was possible but needed luck.

The % is certainly low but not 0. Compare to some of the other prizes, for instance a rare pro (random rare x2) for losing in the finals. Most people if their plan is to tank are not in need of more rares they are basically only looking for epic pros or better to improve their lineup. So you have two options then, lose in the first round or lose in the second. Losing in the first gives you team pack x2 or basically a pro of whatever you pull. As said your chance being an epic is low. 1 in 30? More? But the idea is if you do pull an epic you instantly get a pro. Losing in the second round gets you two shots at an epic, 1 from the player pack and one from the team. You have a better shot of getting an epic compared to tanking in round 1 but a lower chance probably of making a dupe needed to get a pro. Basically tanking is an idea if you don't need the rares you get for going further.
