Every time I see one of these posts it gives me hope, then after numerous games played I realize it's not gonna happen. I've drafted 3 legendarys but it's been at least 10k games since then. It was the rc before last. I Drafted George McGinnis.

Question on something I haven't seen fully explained.

Is the Matchmaking based on the full potential strength of your CURRENT deck? What I mean, is I have the Magic RC card, but untrained. The matchmaking will match me based on the card's full stats. Or I have duplicates I haven't pro'd yet and it will match me based on a pro'd and maxed card? I'm assuming this is how it's meant to be.

Or is it based on the off (zero) chance that I could duplicate one, or every, non-pro'd Epic, Leg and Playoff card I have? Meaning, long term potential?

A few things about the matchmaking:


1. It is not based on the potential. It is based on the stats on your cards.


2. It does not take into account positions. So if you have 15 awesome Centers, but only use 3 of them and fill the other positions appropriately, it will still match you as if you put all 15 Centers in your Season. It doesn't match you based on your best 3 cards in each position. It matches you based on your best 15 cards, period.


3. You will see variations of ~20% in total stats between teams in your Season. If you're seeing beyond that then refer to #2 above. That is most likely why you are getting "trucks" in your Season.

But isn't playing players out of position a reason games are sometimes lost to weaker teams? Kind of contradictory isn't it?

Playing cards out of position drains their energy faster. It does not nerf their stats if you keep them energized. Overall it is better to have great cards in each position so you can spend less time babysitting your players. However, we have to match based on your best 15 cards to prevent players from gaming the system if we were to match based on position.

Understandable. I thought playing players in the right position gave me an edge over a team who has a center playing point guard because most centers can't play point guard. The only card I can play out of position that will boost my stats a little is rc Bill walton and the still won't make a substantial difference.

My 15 best cards give me stats of 4500 , 4800, 5100, 5500 , so means I can get matched up with a guy (abc) who has 5400 , 5700, 6100, 6500 if 20% is the criteria and also guys (xyz)who are 3700 , 3800, 4300, 4600 , give or take . But how is it fair to xyz ? Bottom line I can't see how they can fix matchmaking with a 20% +/- . Doesn't make sense . The only way to fix it would be with a pure number category , like total points of top 15 players is between 13k-14k , and those guys get put in a season, then 14k to 15k is another season, 15k-16k etc.....

If I understand NWGD correctly, the variance should be 20% total. Your example would be a 40% variance total. You are assuming you are exactly in the middle of each season.

Player 1 starts a season. Player 2 can be 20% above or below. If he is 20% below, player 3 allowed in the season is a maximum of 20% below player 1 as well, not player 2. On down the line until the season is filled out, with actual players, or with bots.

It's two different things he's highlighting at two different times.

His latest answer was to address my questions as to whether or not the matchmaker takes into account future potential (duplicate cards you don't already have), rather than potential that could be realized immediately by training an untrained card.

So the matchmaker takes into account potential of cards you ALREADY have, not the future potential of snagging a duplicate epic, legend or playoff card.
