Orlando Dwight was a two time Dpoy as well as slam dunk champion. That's Defense and Athleticism, he was also always a double digit rebounder. Even though his PPG was good it wasn't due to his offensive skill, but just being a bigger better athlete than everyone who he was playing against. Defense should be his primary stat, followed by Rebounding/Athleticism (take your pick) THEN his offense should come next.
It seems every single card I have offense is rated way higher than defense. An example out of my deck was Trevor Ariza. I have his ultra rare maxed out and his offense is a 272 versus 250 for his defense when defense is what he's used to make his name in the league.

i definitely agree with primetime. offense is rated way higher for pretty much majority of the cards than defense.

most of the ratings are derived from stats last season (please correct me if im wrong). imo howards defensive presence is not the same as before the surgery. so his defense and athleticism have declined especially last two years and i think stats reflected that.

anyways back to the game itself. i have been thinking and maybe they designed the game in that way on purpose.
since there is no defense that can overpowe offense easily, there is no way to guarantee user will win every single game because sometimes you do get all unfavorable matchup and you end up losing 1-2 game.

feel free to disagree but i also like to know what others think.

Except in this game even the best defender of a given rank can't compete with even the mediocre players that have offense as their highest stat within said rank. I agree that no defender will always stop an offensive player, but in this game defenders have practically no chance against these guys, and that's just the the most elite defender within a given tier. Even if a defensive special ability triggers it still usually isn't enough. This is especially problematic in season mode because offense always wins. In addition to defense needing to be boosted what could happen is that the defensive special abilities can trigger more often for people that have defense as a primary stat.

As far as who's ranked as what Trevor Ariza is one of the people whose stats are off, but look no further than Joakim Noah. How does the current defensive player of the year have defense as his third highest stat?

It's part of why I feel MKG is one of the best Super Rare Pros in the game right now. His stat allocations are strong, and he can break the 300 DEF mark which allows him to beat a lot of Offensive main statters. But yeah I agree. it sucks that the stats are so lopsidedly in Offense and the rest are just regularly bad or don't make sense.

It's made worse by Seasons (and to a lesser extent Quick Games) with the randomness of which stat gets picked to compete, and if you're in the playoffs finals, and the opponent gets 2 offensive stats versus your defense. gg you lost, doesn't even matter at that point what cards you have.

That's why series are 7 games. Over the course of a series, it should be pretty even and there will be games where there is no "Off" for either team.

I lost my only playoff game in the last 4 seasons because of the other team getting Off 3 times (the 3rd one was Off + PM or Reb, forgot) in the first 3 Q but in the end, it didn't matter since i won the next 4 easily. Basically the better team will win the series if one is clearly better than the other. It'll only matter if the 2 teams are extremely close but anything could determine a series like that... even something as simple as a skill going off at a key time. The likelyhood of a nice time skill/support card determining a series is probably just as high as the team with the most "Off" draws.

Of course i'm not saying balancing it isn't ideal. It just might be too late for that given so many cards have already been released and the effect in a season isn't all that big right now (its there but its more of a tie-breaker than a sure win/loss).
