    Blog: Customization in MyNBA2K16

    Hey guys,

May have seen this, but wanted to start a thread. Today, we talked about the kinds of customization we'll be bring you with MyNBA2K16 and how we're linking these new options with the Loyalty program.

We were pleased to get all of you a final, detailed list of the Loyalty rewards you could take with you to the next iteration of the MyNBA2K franchise, MyNBA2K16. With this year’s Loyalty program, we wanted to give you rewards that let you see more content faster and give you a leg up with all the brand new customization options in the game.

Our vision for card gameplay in MyNBA2K16 is simple: we want every player card that you collect and play to feel like it’s unique to you. The tools to do this are included in your loyalty rewards. Spec upgrades, for example, are boosts to your cards’ specializations. Specializations are a new stat modifier that activate when the “specialized” stat is called during a quarter. Spec upgrades permanently increase a specialization, so you can dominate even more.

MyNBA2K16’s also rocking a brand new ability system, designed to give you the power to choose what special ability to give your cards. Want to give your LeBron a Rebounding ability instead of an Offensive one? In MyNBA2K16, you can. We even loaded you up with a few in the Loyalty program to give you a head start on the fun.

And if you want to boost a stat regardless of what’s on it, we’re giving you the ability to charge your stats with an awesome new feature called Stat Charging. Want to give your card’s Rebounding or Playmaking an even bigger boost? Just collect a card that specializes in either of those two ratings and apply it to your card. The card will get a boost in that stat beyond its regular rating. And the best part? You can Stat Charge in Seasons or in Exhibition.

Since we’re on the subject of stats and customization, here’s a secret we want to share with you today: back by popular demand, MyNBA2K16 is rolling with a four stat system (Offense, Defense, Rebounds, or Playmaking). We feel like this, when coupled with your customization efforts, will create a vibrant game experience full of interesting choices and strategic maneuvering.

In MyNBA2K16, you can ball your way – and do it even faster with the loyalty rewards we’ve laid out. See you in the game this fall.

I don't get it, how is this different than enhancements? Also, why would you go back to 4 categories? I thought 5 was infinitely better than 4.

Enhancements still exist. This is just another means to customize your card. You get to put whatever ability you want on a card now.

5 stats worked in some regards, but in others it didn't. Probably the biggest downside was that it just made it more complicated to select your card for each Quarter. There were so many numbers you sort of just blindly selected instead of fully grasping which one you should choose. It also made the cards more "crowded" with the extra stat on there.

4 stats, and the 4 we have chosen, makes it easier to balance and try and get the cards right vs. their real world NBA numbers. Simpler is better in this case.

Ooooh, so you're able to add a player/ability to a card. That's a pretty awesome feature. I hasn't thought about that.

As for the 5 vs. 4, I'll have to take your word for it until the new app is released. I just remember when 2015 came out and I enjoyed having another stat. I always felt that it made the cards more unique.
