Re: I'm done with NBA Live
First of why is this becoming another 2K vs Live thread?
I will say this guy's who are still complaing about Live obviously haven't spent anytime adjusting anything or they don't know what to adjust. I explained to guy's that in order for Live to perform at a high level you have to combine sliders with playbooks. Those are the two factors that will get Live to play outstanding basketball.
Is it going to be perfect?
NO
But I'm sure it will be 100% better once you get those two aspects of the game working together. I'm not going to speculate on 2K's gameplay because I don't own the game. Ionly know that Live has been great for me much like last year because I've done things that most guy's won't commit the time to do. They want perfect Basketball righ out the box and that isn't going to happen with any game. You can only fool yourself if you think any video game will be perfect right out the box. If it was then there would be no need for a single slider thread here or for 2K's game.
I bet guy's didn't even realize that they could switch to Zone defenses if they were getting killed on the boards or if a guy was constantly blowing by you off the dribble. I bet guy's don't even bother to assign their Top Defensive player to a Super Star player. Live has so much realism that goes unnoticed simply because guy's play a certain way and never try to adjust to gameplay.
You can actually control one player and your AI teammates will play good defense on their own. They will come up steals and blocks, they will stripp the ball from post players on double teams. Pack in your defense down low witrh a ZONE and they will clear the boards. Dallas is my team and they play very good defense for long spurts with a ZONE defense.
Anyway, I'm done explaining options in gameplay to help solve problems. Some guy's will never be happy regardless. These games aren't going to ever be perfect but I knpow for a fact they can be better if you tweak things and put in time.NCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD

Using PM's sliders and playbooks and suggestions it gives you that sim look and feel.Comment

I want to like Live. I am not a stupid fanboy. But I want it to play like real basketball. And, yes, I know how to switch to a zone defence - and know how to box out. You get mad at people for making assumptions - then do the same yourself.Comment

I didn't get mad at anyone. I just posted some suggestions on the matter. I don't feel the need to get mad or upset anymore simply because we all have our own opinions and we aren't all going to like the same things.
I just try to help out by giving pointers or suggestion to see if it will help to solve the issue's. Other than that not much else I can do accept give advise.
Besides it wasn't a shot taken at you it was more directed at the two obvious 2K guy's who posted and neither one of them have the game. They know who they are because they always pop in threads speaking of a game they don't even own. Yet they will agree with every negative issue regarding the game without even playing it for themselves first.Last edited by Playmakers; 10-02-2005, 09:41 PM.NCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD

Re: I'm done with NBA Live
I'm done with Live also...although I don't have ANY major beefs with it. As a matter of fact, i quite like it. Both games have thir issues, and Lives issues are no worse than 2K's.
My problem is that I like Live alot, but I'm LOVIN' 2k6...and because the Freestyle Stick and the Shot Stick are one and the same, it makes it completely impossible to play both. I had a hard enough time going back and forth last year without lofting up crazy runners from 3pt land because the jumper button in 2k is the dunk button in Live. This year, I was catching hell tryna' do my moves on 2k6, because the layout is so different. Its way too frustrating to play both, so I won't. Now that 2k's controls are starting to feel natural, I don't wanna' mess it up by playing Live with regularity.
Live is a sweet, sweet game, but I must say goodbye..<sniff>Hank's Custom Collectibles 3D printer/painter extraordinaireComment

Re: I'm done with NBA Live
I like both games , but I will have agree with Playmaker(great job) that no basketball game will be perfect. I also blame the NBA too because if they will stop marketing the high flying and dunks and start to focus on the fundamentals in the NBA then maybe that there respective video games will refect what we see on tv...and remember that EA is now like the yankees everyone want to see them fail and remember that LIVE 06 for this gen system might will be different from the next gen and people will hate that engine also....but they will still but it because that is what be grew up on....Lakers vs celtics(classic) Bulls vs Blazer, my personal fav NBA showdown '94 for gensis ( now im dating myself) so blame EA all you want they still know how to put out classics (MVP 05) it is that somtimes that you have to be patience and remember that we sim players will always have a gripe about something I just have to come to realise that we they code the game and their marketing ploy is for everyone ....prime example is Madden 06.....now that it is a sim like game people still "whine" about and still in line to pick it up.......currently playing Nba live 08 (ps3) updated and edited roster from playmaker, COD 4, Nba 2k8 (360)..and watching all the blu-ray movies i canComment

Originally posted by KashanovaI haven't posted in this thread but man this game sucks i know cause i have it for computer and have played the ps2 1 just to see if it's me and this game is as fake as it gets and the superstar qualities get abused, so do the rebounding, and the same old things live has always had, the skating is riduclous you would think after all these years it would be gone, you can travel in this game and get always with it i came to a full stop and had no where to go and i pressed the superstar trigger with a highflyer then i take two more steps do a windmill on someone and get no traveling call, my friend return live yesurday for 2k and has loved it and eb told me he was the 12th person that day and we went at 12 pm. 2k had a learning curve for me 2 but it was for 5 mins since i saw the tutorial and the shot stick and everything else in that game has been greatComment

Re: I'm done with NBA Live
Have to agree with the O/P.
Playmakers...if it was me getting killed on the boards, I wouldn't mind. It would be a challenge to get better.
That's not the situation though. I am killing the CPU on the boards. Highest level / CPU DRB 100 + MY ORB 0.
It's just way, way too easy to get ORB once you know what you're doing. The rebounding code is HORRIBLE. The CPU big guys often just miss the ball, jump to the wrong spot.
I've got ORB using my PG while CPU Shaq jumps up and misses the ball...often!
I am getting over 30 ORB a game...and up to 40.
It ruins the game imo.
I don't know what it is with this engine...but they just can't do rebounding logic at EA.
LIVE 2002 = ORB's everywhere.
LIVE 2004 = No ORB to speak of...
LIVE 2006 = Back to ORB's everywhere.
The engine is flawed...plain and simple. They tweak it and it just goes from one extreme to another.Comment

I feel you man. I just love the overall and the way I play I try not to take advantage of the rebounding situation. I just let my AI teammates try and clear the offensive boards and I concentrate on the defensive boards.
In fact I"ll get back on Defense with the PG or the shooter if a take an outside shot that way I"ve completely taken myself out of the play 80& of the time when it comes to offensive rebounds. It's kinda like steals I don't try and steal every pass because you don't see guy's in the NBA just reaching on every possession down court.
The only alternative I could suggest and it would probably solve this issue is to globally lower all players offensive rebounding ratings below 35-40. I had this same problem last year with shotblocking and just globally edited every player and it had a huge effect. The best thing is more likely this game will take you up to the launch of the Next Gen consoles so editing the players and playing 1-2 season's before moving on the Next Gen versions could be worth time for now and in two months you don't have to worry about incoming rookies because you'll have Next Gen games.
I also forgot to mention that you could probably concentrate on messing with On-Ball Physical Defense and that might actually have an effect aswell. It will allow the CPU players to be more physical down low if the ball is in the area.Last edited by Playmakers; 10-03-2005, 07:37 PM.NCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD

In my case it is the other way around. The CPU gets too many ORB.Comment
