Hey Playmaker & WTF ... Fast breaks?

    'Sup?

    Playmaker,

After reading your post about player ratings, it got me thinking ...

I reckon the main defensive weakness in the game is the Attacking team's ability on the transition. There's way to many fast break points per game. The attacking team (I only ever play against the CPU but) seems lightning quick to get players back, while the defending team takes forever. Any player rating's changes or slider set that would help that out?

I've been playing with your slider settings, i adjusted layup and dunk blocking drastically, think it might get my players into the paint to play some D. It worked, but in doing so there were a few side-affects.

I played as the Bulls against San An. The final stats were pretty impressive, I lost 94-79, I shot 388 FG% while SA were 427%. The only stat which was out were the Fouls, Bulls 31: Spurs 20, I had to raise shooting and block/charge fouls so there were'nt too many blocks, in doing so now I got a heap of fouls.

And WTF ... I played around with the speed ratings for a few games, and the transition game was pretty much the same. ie heaps of fastbreaks and points in the paint, way to many dunks/layups etc due to my inside game being non existant especially when the other team went to the hoop.

My last test game I only raised my team's D-AWR and speed for my big men and I noticed a big change. More often than not I had a body in front of the ball carrier and pressure on the shooter, which is what every game I've played 'til now has lacked.

Also; if there's a better defensive scheme then 1/2 Court man on man for the fast breaks, what would it be. If I cut the fastbreaks down after a TO or missed basket I reckon the game would be just about spot on except for the fouls.

Sorry bout the ramble, but I'm dead keen to get some realistic stats from tweaking the player ratings and sliders, and it seems you 2 guys are the only ones still playin' Live.

Sorry for the late reply. Check the Player Ratings thread I updated. I will be providing a scale for everyone interested in this info you posted. I hope to get this done during the week.

Yeah, sorry on my part too. I'm without a 360 for the next week. I figured I may as well send mine in and get a new one in return. It's only froze up a few times, but that's a few more than what it should be.

After I get it back, I'm sure Playmakers will have you taken care of, if not, I'll do my best.

        Very interesting.

As I mentioned in another thread, I edited a few teams
        defensive awareness and speed up.

I played a half using one of those edited teams, Chicago,
against a NON edited cpu team...and was able to stay in front
of the CPU / stop the fast breaks being crazy much better.

That may be the solution for that...simply edite your OWN teams
defensive awareness and big guys speed.

Well yeah, I think that's the ticket. I've since played three more games.

Against the Warriors, Suns and Jazz (I'm the Bulls). 9 minute Qtr's, and I couldn't be happier with the results especially against the Suns who are a fastbreak team. All my stats seem to be spot on so far.

The only setback so far is because I raised the D-AWR and Speed for my big men, Chandler, Harrington, Allen, Songaila (I left Sweetney out, he can't guard his shadow) the Bulls overall rating has jumped to 83 or 84, which puts it - maybe unfairly - in the top tier teams of the league.

The interseting thing is Gordan, Hinrich and Duhon etc, guys I never touched, are also getting back and playing D instead of crashing the boards. Fastbreak points aren't much of an issue anymore. Mind you, I really need to play about another 5 games at 10 minute qtrs to be fully convinced. But so far I'll take the improvement.

Another big issue I had with the game, rebounds, seems to be much more bearable with a tweak I made.

I run a 1/2 Crt Man to man scheme and I changed both CPU and USER rebounding. I now have OFF boards set at 1 and DEF boards set at 75. When the DEF boards were maxed out to 100 I was watching replays of rebounds, and players were getting all tangled and outta position to get a board. Set at 75 in those three games the rebound stats averaged out to believable stats.

I out rebounded the Nuggets 42 to 29 (Mostly due to their .368 FG%), and they only had 7 OFF boards for the whole game while I had 9.

Editing your team player's D-AWR and SPD ratings for the Big men only, along with a few slider tweaks and a set defensive strategy seems to have the best results for me so far.

            .

You mention watching replays...which LIVE are we are we talking about here, as the 360 version has no manual replays etc...?

Are you playing the 360 version?

The rebounding issues are in all versions though...lol...

Playing PS2. But yeah you're right, they make it for one platform and then just port it directly to the other platforms with just different enhancements and options.

Played 2 more games. Getting a wide variety of scores, lost to the sonics 107-105 and beat Portland 88-76. In the portland game there was only 13 offensive rebounds between both teams, 8 to me 5 to the CPU ... The seattle game, Ridnour shot .588 FG and 3-7 3PT and grabbed 28 pts. So players who you don't expect can still step up and do something outta the ordinary.

Basically with exhaustive weaking Live now has the feel of true sim basketball with spot on stats you'd expect.

I'm starting my Dynasty and will play it 'til I get my greasy hands on a PS3 ...

The rebounding issue is a problem for the whole series...

However, Will (WTF) and PM are playing LIVE 360...which is a very different game to LIVE 06 for PS2.
