Something is going on. I guess we'll have to wait for a 'news' site to start acting like journalists before we find out why, two days after release, one of the biggest titles of the year has no review.

OS, spill the beans
I really have come to expect this from IGN and Gamestop, but it seems that Team Xbox has followed suit. I was really disappointed to find Operation Sports doing the same.

Re: OS, spill the beans
I'm guessing whoever's doing the OS review didn't get their hands on the game until the general public did yesterday. Think you have to fault EAHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period
XBL gamertag: d0meBreaker22 (that's a zero)
congrats Steelers, city of Pittsburgh, and Steeler Nation - SIX TIME WORLD CHAMPS -

i'm not judging you but I don't think your first post here will be well-received.
just a hunch.Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
it's something that needs to be brought up. if the rumors going around about EA being in the review site's pockets are true, anyone who doesn't release the review is doing a great disservice to the gaming community.
review sites like this are supposed to be on the gamer's side, helping us make better decisions about the game's we buy. the moment they start delivering only what publishers want you to hear is the moment they become employees of said developer and lose their status as journalists.
i thought i had an account here already but the board did not recognize my email address. i've been a viewer for at least a couple of years, which is why i was disappointed to find that OS, too, had not released a review or commented on the issue.
seriously, how long can these news sites ignore the issue without blatantly calling us idiots?Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
EVer think maybe they haven't received the game to review, or didn't get it in time to be fair with a review?
Why is everything a conspiracy?
If you just came here to bash our site and the people that work hard to make the site what it is, your experience here won't be a good one, and your stay will be a short one.Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
Do you really think that's a possibility for a game of this caliber and for every review site online? (the popular ones at least)
For one, this is a sports game. Even if they got it when everyone else did, they've had plenty of time to evaluate most of the aspects.
Don't you think that if there was some sort of crazy delay they should report it? Isn't that what they do, report gaming news? Do you not think it's news that one of the biggest sports titles of the year was refused to all gaming sites for early review?Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
Are you going bonkers bonzo? OS has stated in other threads that they never received a copy of the game from EA. How do you suppose they review the game if it wasn't given to them to review. You need to slow down with your criticism. Why is this bothering you so much anyways?Comment

2. Do you want your reviews to be based on "most aspects" or do you want a thorough review done by someone who has spent time with the game, and not just skimmed over the game.
3.Here is what we do know, it takes time to review the game, not every game is reviewed on release day (there is precedent there), and the odds are good that reviews will start popping up today or soon after.
Why are you going nutso about this? Lemme guess, this is just another way for some 2K fanboy to try and make EA look bad.Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
I'm reviewing the game and we havent recieved the preview copy from EA. I'm not buying the game and gamefly is sending it to me until friday or next monday. After that I'll take 1 to 2 weeks to play the game and then write the review.Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
It's rare that we receive a game early enough to post a review before the game actually releases. Many times we don't even have a review out within a week. It's not our fault. When the games come in, we review them, but keep in mind that we spend a good amount of time with the game before publishing a review.Comment

Re: OS, spill the beans
Why do EA fans confront any criticism with 4th grade 'fanboy' comments?
There are some, like me, who have been burned by EA in the past and rely on reviews from someone other than the snotty 12 year old in most gaming forums for information about a game. Last year, there were tons of idiots running around talking about how Live 06 was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Guess what? It was horrible. Even IGN, in all their EA loving glory, gave it a very poor score.
When all the major gaming sites fail to release reviews two days after release for major titles, I get suspicious. You should, too.
I don't 'vote' along party lines. I'm a consumer. I don't take risks with my money and I rely on sources like OS for what I assume to be unbiased information. I would hope that you would value your own time enough to want to read unbiased reviews rather than something only money can buy.
Maybe I'm wrong, but aside from Madden, the NBA games are the next 'big deal' in sports gaming. Since OS is solely a sport's gaming site, I find it hard to believe that they didn't receive the copy as usual or that they can't take 2 minutes out of their day to let people know what's going on.
If you want to turn it into an EA issue, then it's equally sorry for them to withold review copies. However, I expect nothing less from any publisher. If you think I believe everything 2k Sports says you're strongly mistaken.
I try to read between the lines and I see a trend with EA and review sites that is damaging to the gaming community. If you don't care enough to have an opinion, then please do not try to degrade me for expressing mine, and for the love of god please keep the fanboy BS out of any topic with me. I'm clearly not bashing NBA Live.Comment

"I try to read between the lines..." I think in this case you are over reading the text as we use to say in college. If you had any familiarity with this site at all you would know that it is not unusual for OS to put up reviews of games weeks after they release because the guys here seem to enjoy playing a game before writing a review.
Also, game companies control preview copies the same way movie studios control preview screenings. Some films, usually bad ones- but not always, are not made available to reviews before release. It seems OS was in that boat with Live 07, as you have already been told.
And please stop casting yourself as some sort of subaltern anti-hero here to purge OS of its EA Sports demons. It is not impressive. Thanks for the advice.
