I thought like that until this year with Madden and got burned, out $60 for a stripped game.

NBA Live 2007 was a crap game and the PS3 version was probably going to be worse.

Plus, the press release said it already, they are putting all their resources on the next NBA Street anyway, so its not like the Live guys are hard at work making sure Live 2008 is better.

It has to do with your "if". Based off of EA's recent track record, what in the world would even give any inclination that they care about making a good product.

I don't agree with this. There are a few possible scenarios going on right now:

1) EA has completely scrapped the Live team and is looking to regroup and start fresh, not with a new engine, but new members on the dev. team.

2) EA is making the Live team continue to finish the Live game and implement things they couldn't this year. It was clear the game was not a finished product, IMO.

My guess would be the first, as I truly feel a majority of the staff from Live '07 won't be returning to work on '08. Good riddance, I say. They don't have any idea as to what the NBA looks like, and ever since '05 you can see the series has continually focused on gimmicks and slight retouches to an out of date engine.

This first one is the right one. They added a few guys from the MVP team and are looking to revamp the game. EA is very aware that this years game sucked.

I'm guessing that heads are rolling on the Live team. The game's initial sales were okay but a lot of people have returned Live for NBA 2K7 and the word is out that there's a big gap in quality between the two games. The PS3 version of Live 07 probably would've gotten creamed by NBA 2K7 anyway so I think EA is more worried about turning things around by next year before a lot of long-time NBA Live fans jump ship for good.

I figured as much. It's the only smart business move at this point. I wouldn't "jump up and dance" because "2k7" beat them... but as a gamer I'm happy to know they realize they put out a crap product and hopefully will not allow that to continue and further...

And there's the key statement that is so often overlooked. I want Live to be good, it pushes 2K and vice versa. People on the boards should want the same rather than what we have now. That eliminates the competition. Many wine and moan over the exclusive license, but if you visit the Live, 2K, NHL pages, they are littered with (albeit closed by the mods

) with "EA admits defeat", "2k rules" etc. Everyone says they want competition, but in reality people just seem to want their game. (I step off the soapbox).

People usually take a liking to one game... I guess it's human nature. Personally, I'll admit to becoming a fanboy of the game that most represents the sport it is attempting to portray.

Yeah, I've never understood the fan boys who root for the failure of the competition. You see that a lot in the Xbox 360 vs. PS3 discussions. I mean, who cares unless you own Sony or MS stock? I owned a PS2 but bought a Xbox 360 this time because it came out first.

As far as I'm concerned it's always better to have two quality games to choose from than one good game and one lousy game. I've generally liked the NBA 2K franchise better but I've liked some versions of NBA Live in the past and wouldn't hesitate to buy it in the future if it played a better game of basketball than NBA 2K.

There's nothing wrong with liking "your game". It's when it crosses the line to the other game can't do anything right that stops progress. I guess I am a 2K fanboy b/c I am about to get a game in before the wife gets home.

EA fanboys never jump ship for good. If the game comes back next year and gets an average rating of 7, they will buy it.

i wonder how many people are still gonna say "its not that bad after....". this proves what the majority already knew, if it was even a decent game EA would of realesed it, it shows that they know they screwed up this year and i wouldnt get my hopes up for next year, i wont by it till i rent it next year.

After watching the Youtube videos I would say this game is a disaster, an alpha version of where NBA Live needs to be.

Compare NBA Live 07 to NHL 07 and you get to see how bad Live 07 really is. NHL 07 is not perfect either but it is a great effort for a game built from scratch whereas it's year two for NBA Live.

Nah, EA Canada makes the EA Street Series. What defies imgination to me is the fact it took them year's to get the faces right in the NBA Live game, but they Faces looked a crap load better in the NBA Street Series(even those the graphics looked more cartoony).

It also baffles me why the production house for both the NBA and March Madness are in Canada. Seeing as the Canadien Audience for the NCAA Hoops is nohwere near what it is in the US, how could you hope to have a staff that would be that knowledgeable about the game.

Just my two cents.
