Just when you thought they were on the right track...

Just when you thought, it was gonna be an ok/good year for Live...A new demo from the competition comes out. Live lovers, what are your thoughts? Have you tried both demos? Are you sticking by Live 08?

i think live is still a good game, but 2k8 is better. this years live is better than 2k7. they both have things that i like about them. example live have some better turn around jumper animation and drop steps along with step back shots. 2k8 have a better overall game as far as presentation and defense and i think their collision detection is better. 2k7's player model really bugged me but this year they look realistic so i am happy with that. i also like that 2k8 has tons of new animations and it flows smoother.

There's things to like about both and things to not like. They both look amazing imo. Live has better and more detailed player models but the stadiums and crowd in 2k are sweet. I prefer what Live is going for, where the player has total control, it's just not polished enough yet. 2k is a little to animation heavy. Like when you just want to go up for a simple layup and your guy does some tricky reverse spin behind the back fading jumpshot and misses, or you pass to a guy who has position and he jumps out two feet to get the pass and puts himself out of position. Either way we hopefully will have two good competing games for the next several years.

NBA Live 08 plays like a claymation but physics driven game
NBA 2k8 plays like a film reel game that relies on motion captures.

NBA Live 08 has more user control.
NBA 2k8 goes off on it's own and only sometimes feeling like what yuo did is being done in-game.

NBA Live 08 plays smooth becasue of the 'somewhat' physics driven gameplay and branching animations.
NBA 2k8 seems to stutter from motion capture to motion capture.

NBA Live 08's basic animations are laughable. Running and dribbling look "odd".
NBA 2k8's animations because they are "forced" motion captures look very realistic but again are locked into each other making the fluidity bad.

And now onto the graphic debate...

NBA 2k8 hands down is better. The "overall' look is live television broadcast and it couldn't be done any better.

personally i don't know which one to get now as both have a system VERY different from each other. As i mentioned i think it will fall onto what system of gameplay/animations i prefer...

it's a real tough one right now for me.

I am leaning toward Live though...

I honestly might just wait and get CH2k8. I loved that game last year even though it has some of the same problems as NBA2k. I prefer college anyway in real life.

I'm not a Live lover by any means....have been a 2k basketball guy for a while but I might like the Live demo better than 2k. I think I might be skipping basketball games altogether this year and getting Fifa.

that is one of the biggest things for me. that's why I could never really get into 2k games because I never felt like I had control of what the cyber player was doing or what i wanted it to do 100% of the time.

NBA 2k8 hands down is better. The "overall' look is live television broadcast and it couldn't be done any better.
I disagree, i still think live's graphics are just too far ahead of 2K. When i play Live, I feel like I'm playing a next gen game--when i see 2k--it looks like a glorified xbox game with some spits and shines but that's it.

It's tough, but I'll get both. NBA Live for my dynasty this year and personal enjoyment. I'll get 2K to play against my friends and play our annual 2K league.

You could say I'm a Live lover, but only for the PC. On consoles I always like 2k more, but after playing that demo....it just feels like 2k7 to me. I'm going to get Live on the 2nd and get 2k8 after a price drop or two. I have those ultimate rosters for 2k7 which should keep me happy for the beginning of the season if I want to play 2k.

For me even with my griping and nitpicking . Live 08 is just more user controlled and thats what it comes down to. and once we tweak it it'll be pretty chill hopefully the demo isn't the final build

yep the more I play it the more i like it. I thought the same "claymation" word myself with regard to the graphics. they are beautiful and the gameplay and control is deliberate and does just what I want them to do.

it reminds me of the gameplay FEELING I had playing Live 95 on genesis.

I can see this game being built upon next year (with ALL of these many improvements) to possibly be one of the best, perhaps the NHL 08 of 09.

Although this game gets no love and gratuitous hate here, I've decided to buy it. on the fence on 2k8 after playing 2k1,2,3,4,5,6,7, Inside Drive and a couple versions of Live here and there. time for a change of pace and I love the post game and also have tired of 2k a bit.

to each his own, but you are allready looking for the game to be improved next year and it's not even out yet....lol. not a good sign to me.

Why is the 2k8 wishlist is still going strong with less than 2 weeks to go?
