Ok I take it back but they are NO WHERE NEAR what I would think a next gen game that cost $60 to look like. They are worrying about animations, guys high fiving each other, guys running into camera men, the crowd, cheerleaders, vendors walking around, and towel boys. This is supposed to be 5 on 5 bball. they need to worry about the players looking good. Im sorry but there players look awful. They are the same player models that were in NBA 2k for the DC. Sorry 8 years later and there still using the same engine. Thats bad IMO.

Obviously, there is something wrong with me too... the player models look NOWHERE near as good as Live's do. Not to say 2k's not the better game, or anything like that, but player models and courts (not arena's, but courts), Live wins that department hands down.

I got 2k8 for xmas and it is SOOOO BORINGGGGGG. I haven't played a bball game in like 4 years but I guess I am use to more moves in a bball game. In 2k8, it's like you just get stuck and the moves are not as abundent. I want to try Live08 now but not sure if its any better than 2k8. Would you guys say the fun factor of live is equal to that of NHL 08?

Fun factor is definitely there... that's what has me going to it...

I'd definitely recommend it. court_vision and I are pretty tough on bball games... and if we're liking it, then I'd like to think that it's a pretty fun game of bball..

Definitely not like 2k8 in any means. If you don't like 2k8 (different strokes for different folks)... then go w/ Live and try it out.

Best buy is selling this game for 38 bucks so I picked it up today and put about an hours' worth of gaming into it.

I know it's early, but..........this has to be one of the worst games I've ever played in my whole life (chuckle). No wonder people say that the 2k game is better, I think it's only better by default. 2k I didn't like either, but at least it's some kind of effort. this game imo is complete junk. I know I know, it's early so I will keep playing, but I am glad I got this for 38 and not 60 bucks. The load times are horrendeous and why does it feel like the players are stiff. At least in 2k, the players flow until you get towards the basket where they become robots. In this game, it seems like they have some weights weighing them down on the fast breaks. Reminds me of the old march maddness games on xbox.

I will keep at it. if i don't like it, there's always ebay.

ESPN NFL 2K5 still holds the sports game of the year, 4 years and countin. NHL 08 was a strong competitor though.

I used to be all about LIVE and never would give 2k a shot. Last year I decided to by both LIVE 07 and 2k7 and really really turned towards the gameplay in 2k7. Now I have played LIVE for this year and yes it is a much better game than the past. It is up in the air now as I said both are good games, LIVE is getting there but if I had to choose I would go with 2k...I've just fallen for that game.

If people prefer Live or 2K, that's just fine. However, it is quite bogus to say that Visual Concepts has been running on the same graphics engine for the last 8 years. That's practically an opinion of ignorance. I have been playing VC's basketball series since the beginning of time when they created NBA Action '98. I can tell you that their most definite changes in the graphics engine were done with NBA 2K, NBA2K3, NBA2K5 (Xbox), and NBA2K8.

Some may not prefer the "boring" sim style gameplay, but at least give credit where it is due. There's no way in the world that a Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, or Wii could handle the graphics in the PS3 and 360 versions of 2K8. It would take more than a "graphics mod" to produce the title.

thats beside the point...

Hit point of view is relevant, 2k's graphics have been slightly improving, not major improving, and yes all their games play the same.

They kept the configurations familiar and in some respects thats good. But the talent they have at Visual Concepts, can do so much better.

I respect Live's major jump in graphics in 06, and smoothed out the gameplay in 08. (07 was just poop in a case.)

But enough of the 2k vs EA mess. If you think 2k8 is the greatest, then have fun, its your opinion..

The only truth on any subject, is Live's Graphics are much better, enough said!!! Other than that..all other comments are opinions when comparing the two....

Not very good in terms of player builds in my honest opinion. 2k8 has improved... but not to the leaps that I was hoping, and I know a few others in the 2k organization feel the same way. I would expect something big from the art team for 2k9.

Different strokes for different folks, but in my opinion, Live's player models are FAR better than 2k's this year. I'm as big of a 2k fan as anyone else, but this year, Live is more fresh to me.

No one said that 2K8 is the greatest. It's just comments of ignorance that people speak. To say that they are using the same engine since Dreamcast is silly. Also, we can say that Live's graphics are better, but even that is based on opinion. We can conclude that the overall graphics in 2K8 are better since they have added to the overall atmosphere of an NBA game. It's the importance to an individual of what makes the graphics better for them. Also, you can't ever say that the NBA2K series has always played the same. Sounds like ignorance speaking. If anything, VC has a nasty habit of changing their gameplay mechanics a bit too much.

2K8 doesn't play like 2K7. 2K7 doesn't play like 2K5 (I felt 2K6 and 2K7 were actually quite similar in gameplay). 2K5 doesn't play like 2K4. Anyone who has played the series even longer knows that 2K4 sure as hell doesn't play like 2K3. We can conclude that each developer (NBA2K and NBA Live) has their own style when it comes to programming their game, and each renewal of both series will always carry a similar feel. That doesn't mean it's the same, it's just the way each developer carries their art.

Hands down COSIGN. If Live had all the other little touches 2K put into there game it would have been awsome.
