NBA Live and EA's minimum effort/maximum profit...

They're using a five year old engine (no matter how many lies they tell about 'rebuilt from ground up...') with 5 year old animations and more than likely the same courtside announcer they've had for more than 11 years... that's right, 11 years of the same annoying audio.

The player models are the most unproportioned in all sports games, they animate like exhaggerated cartoon characters and rarely ever smoothly (the skipping frames make their '60 fps' claims more lies), the physics are laughable, real plays and play styles take a backseat for crazy arcade-like randomness and more insulting than any of the above are the amount of bugs and glitches that always ship with the game.

EA are a joke of a sports videogame company and even moreso, are making a joke of the people who continue to buy their bball games.

I disagree with you on this one to a certain extent.

Now let me say this first, 2k is better than Live right now but 2k is running on the same engine from last gen. EA has the right engine to actually make a real nextgen b-ball game thats going to use nextgen technology. The main problem is, EA should've worked on the game instead of releasing 06 and gave themselves more time to do some of the things they had visioned for the Live franchise. You cant rebuild a game with all the new technology Live have in it and expect it to be good .

06 new graphics engine with stripped down gameplay and modes.

07 Footplanting, Espn intergration, Supertar freestyle, 75 ratings per player, and Locomotion.

      08 Animation blending and more.

Now im going to explain a few things.

In 2k8 what makes Kobe different than T-Mac? Animations and its going to take more than a animation to do so.

In Live with those 75 ratings they can make players play different from anything like (scoring with contact, first step, and so much more) and its showing in 09.

      Animation blending

The ability to break out of any animation at anygiven time was long overdue. I really got tired of having to watch a animation play out and it caused players to go out of bounds and do stupid things that effect the gameplay and EA is addressing these issues.

      Footplating speaks for it self.

EA has set themselves up to make one of the greatest b-ball games of all time thats going to use nextgen technology to the fullest. People keep talking this EA is so far behind 2k when the truth is its vice versa. All EA need is the right people to help them get the animations, team tendacies, player movement, and tune everything right and Live is going to destroy 2k easy.

With the edition of Mike Wang and some more 2k developers I can easy see Live reclaiming king soon.

You can't even use ESPN integration as an example to this. All they do is just slap a few Sportscenter videos or PTI episodes that I could very easily see on tv. For, ESPN integration I want to see things like after game interviews, half time highlights, sideline reporters. Don't just throw some videos of stuff on the game and call that integration. Before you say that people will just skip this stuff, think about it, how many people actually watch the videos they put on their. Even if you do put that in their that does nothing to help with actual gameplay or making the game more fun.

Now im going to explain a few things.

Except for the fact that this is a team game and every TEAM playing the same way is not acceptable. Also if you want to talk about each player playing different NBA 2k has tendencies in attributes to distinguish the different playing styles of players. Not only do they have these tendencies they also have like you said they have animations that are different and this is very important. If Kobe and T-Mac shot the same way or faded away the same way the only way you could tell they were different is the jersey and their name. The tendencies they have covers almost everything Live has but with less ratings.

            Animation blending

The ability to break out of any animation at anygiven time was long overdue. I really got tired of having to watch a animation play out and it caused players to go out of bounds and do stupid things that effect the gameplay and EA is addressing these issues.

The only problem with this is that this can create herky jerky robotic movements that don't look realistic at all. A lot of the animations in the game don't run smoothly specifically dunk animations and can create unrealistic baskets made, blocked, etc.

            Footplating speaks for it self.

Also, I want to clear things up I am NOT a 2k fanboy, I am a fan of a good game. Any game that seems worth the purchase to me is the game I will get, thus the reason why I will be at least renting NBA Live like I do every year.

EA actually is currently a lot more responsive to user criticism than any other sports video game company. Posts like this don't help anyone.

Ive said it before; the only reason EA people are here is due to slagging sales.

True, but we'll see if this translates into the better game so far it hasn't.

Re: NBA Live and EA's minimum effort/maximum profit...

It just continues to amaze me how immature these threads have become.

People are making statements that make no sense, if EA wasn't here you'd speak trash of Live. Even when they are here, you talk trash of Live. Okay we get it 2k has great gameplay and stadiums that are alive. Not to mention the 2k series has been the greatest for a while. We get it, I've played Visual Concepts Basketball, since it was NBA Action.

That's besides the point, these are the Live threads and people are constantly, entangling their ignorance around. Live 09 looks promising, if you played Live 08 (with slider IMO). Then you know they were headed in the right direction. Again this is a fresh and new development team and Live 09 will be their second attempt. Live 08 wasn't a terrible game in no sense, it had flaws but far from bad.

Live 09 from the 2 videos and the many screenshots, looks to finally animate and flow like basketball. Yet people come in here constantly complaining.

One guy above even stated they came here to get their sales figures up! Uh! No!

Your wrong, even with the previous Live's been in the state they were, they outsold 2ksports basketball 2 to 1. So your statements are false.

Fact is, we finally have some damn developers who care what the people think, they come to OS because OS is a community of respected grown ups with great opinions and thoughts.

But when you have a handful of people on here, acting like an *** and children, they don't comment or say anything. Grow up already and know your facts before dissing a company or a team.

EA sports is a company of groups of people, they aren't a whole, you compare one development as if they are all one. And that's wrong and disrespectful.

Lives Dev's are hard at work of finally bringing the Live series to standards so we can enjoy their game and 2k's as well. It is possible to buy and live more than 1 basketball game a year, I've done it all my life why can't you.

You want to be immature go to the 2k forums they welcome you, with all the kids that have taken over that forum. Enough with the bias remarks already.

But if you have nothing good to say about this series, and have no intentions of getting it anyways. Then say nothing, because all you are doing is constantly building flame threads.

We don't need that, OS is respected for a reason and some on you give it a bad name.

Admiral hasn't been here for awhile and just to let you know, he has equally criticized the 2K series in the past.

That said, for whatever the reason the EA employees are here, it's time to stop regurgitating the same things and work with them until we can get things the way they need to be.

2K hasn't had a totally consistent track record because they fell off for a couple of years themselves.

Point being, asking us here to attend the community events, and taking feedback however little or much should be given.

If you don't like the game in the end, don't buy it becuase that's obviously showing them that they need to hear us now

IMO many of us want NBA LIVE "back" if that makes sense... but we're going to need to take a step back and look at our options of how we can help make this happen together without saying the same thing and doing nothing about it.

We need some good volunteers to go to EA and I agree with the one poster that GSW should be nominated as well being that he has worked with one of the EA producers on 2k's basketball and he understands the process of making a game, is very knowlegable in that specific area too.

                          , gotta love OS.

You know, it really is amazing that we still get these kind of threads in BOTH forums. People complain religiously about exclusive licenses and what they do to competition, yet here we are, with an open NBA license, a chance to give our input and provide suggestions for for 3 basketball games and people continue to bash, bash, bash. You should want all 3 games to do well, you should want to them to push each other and continue to innovate. Instead people continue to take allegiances to game companies (speaking in general, not anyone specifically) like they saved them from a speeding bus.

This post will probably fall in a black hole with all the other "Voice of Reason" posts, since people will continue to bash either way, but cmon, it's getting ridiculous.

I look forward to the day the NBA license is sold so a lot of you can look back on your posts and realize how much time you wasted being so negative instead of actually saying something that helps these games progress.

You guys are misunderstanding me an I know you guys are directing this at me but are trying to cover it up. I really do want NBA Live and 2k to BOTH be good. I need a change of pace in a game and get bored playing 2k for as long as I have. In fact, if you seen me playing Xbox Live I am playing the NBA Live 08 demo and I'm not going to lie the game plays decent basketball and is fun (this is without all the slider adjustments). I will post more in the threads that are there to help EA to make the best basketball game they can. I want it to be back to like it was in the football glory days where I could pop in Madden 05 or NFL 2k5 and still be happy either way. Also, I do admit that I shouldn't have responded to the post the way I did and when I look over it, it did sound very fanboyish and just ignorant so I apologize. There was no point in me posting in such a thread as this because this thread will go nowhere, all it does is bash the game and gets everyone nowhere, so for that I apologize.

P.S.: I will go check out those videos because this is needed for me to make a more accurate assumption, again I apologize.
