Also, I want to clear things up I am NOT a 2k fanboy, I am a fan of a good game. Any game that seems worth the purchase to me is the game I will get, thus the reason why I will be at least renting NBA Live like I do every year.

Sorry dude but the tendacies in 2k8 do not cover half the stuff in Live look at this http://sports.ign.com/nbalive07/boston.html.

You guys are misunderstanding me an I know you guys are directing this at me but are trying to cover it up. I really do want NBA Live and 2k to BOTH be good. I need a change of pace in a game and get bored playing 2k for as long as I have. In fact, if you seen me playing Xbox Live I am playing the NBA Live 08 demo and I'm not going to lie the game plays decent basketball and is fun (this is without all the slider adjustments). I will post more in the threads that are there to help EA to make the best basketball game they can. I want it to be back to like it was in the football glory days where I could pop in Madden 05 or NFL 2k5 and still be happy either way. Also, I do admit that I shouldn't have responded to the post the way I did and when I look over it, it did sound very fanboyish and just ignorant so I apologize. There was no point in me posting in such a thread as this because this thread will go nowhere, all it does is bash the game and gets everyone nowhere, so for that I apologize.

P.S.: I will go check out those videos because this is needed for me to make a more accurate assumption, again I apologize.

Now its been mentioned many times how much the Live 08 and March Madness 08 demo's sucked compared to the actual game.

Check this video out Mr. Lakers Fan - This is Live 08 with slider adjustments for better flow! And you'll see why it isn't that bad.

I agree a lot with Admiral50 (you used to post/patch at NLSC didn't you?). I am also aware that 2k has been using the same engine for some time but is that really a bad thing? They're engine is good enough for them to be able to work on other things outside of that and they have marginally improved each year.

I think a lot of Live's problems could be solved in the animation department. I don't think their engine needs to be renewed completely yet, they just need more work on the game. Everything needs work, some things more than others. They just need to work on the small things first. If they fixed simple things like ball physics that'd be a step.

Just looking at 5 minutes of behindshadows's video:
The opening tip? Needs to be changed. Terrible animation.

How come the ball accelerated when Gasol blocked Boozer?

Fisher's layup after stealing the ball from Williams?

There's just this large number of bad animations in the game. I think you could honestly put a side by side comparison of NBA Live 08 and NBA Live 2004 and find much more similarities than NBA 2k8 and NBA 2k4.

Hopefully with Mike Wang working on Live now they'll be monumental changes. I've already heard good news about the amount of animations they're putting in and how much they're been doing mocap. I hope they can get dunking similar to that of 2k8s/2k7s where it actually feels like you're dunking the ball.

I agree with graphics too. A lot of people say this is a great looking game but I think the player models are not so good. I think they could make them a bit smaller and they need to fix the way the uniforms fit as well. I think it looks good zoomed way in but from a gameplay standpoint 2k8 looks better. The courts look real nice though.

EA are a joke of a sports videogame company and even moreso, are making a joke of the people who continue to buy their bball games.

That right there is why I wouldn't take your comments seriously.

For anyone that is willing to be objective year in and year out, you'll be surprised this year.

EA spend time and money, say every 4 or 5 years on each sports title. Then they use that platform, (or rather 'abuse') to add a couple of small features every season. Make one game, but sell it as five and there's your idea of profit.

You can argue that a lot of games, not just sports games do this and that it's a wise business move but when you look at the disappointed fans of the Live series over the years (especially with this latest generation) my comments make sense.

Live has never looked stunning (2K) and never played realistically (Inside Drive) so where does that leave them? ... exactly.

You're right you can argue that a lot of games do this. However to single out ANY title and not take into account variables that you have no knowledge of results in you just running at the mouth on a message board.

Again, I point to your comment as a whole. You generalized EA while many feel FIFA is one of the best soccer titles out there; NHL is one of the best games in years; People still consider MVP the best baseball engine ever released (I disagree with that one at this point).

EA is a company that needs to stay in business. Not releasing a game, no matter how terrible it is, results in a lot of areas negatively for them (and the reverse is true for releasing a sub-par game to gamers "just to release a title"). Would you generalize 2K as a company after NHL 2k8? Because a lot of long time hockey fans feel the same way about that title as basketball fans feel about Live.

WOW!! The audio is so extraordinary between Marv Albert & Steve Kerr. I mean, from the tip (which looked subpar) they're starting with depth and individuality of players who could make a killer impact on the game. That alone made the whole experience heightened. The only problem I have with what I saw in the game was the slowness in certain things that made it look more like a computer playing basketball. Everything looked like it was too slow.

I do like how the speed of the ball handler which isn't reduced to some "weight-bearing" constriction after they hit a certain point like in the other title. The consistency of the players is translated on both sides of the floor. Animations do need to be improved which I'm sure they are going to be, but it's not that far away from being pretty solid. Honestly, I can't see how people pick one over the other if both companies step up to the plate and let go of it all. This is going to be a wonderful year.

One last thing, I'm quite impressed that EA has finally decided to visit the site like the 2K dev team has been doing. This can only mean that they will gain a better relationship with the community in producing a first-rate game. No complaints out of me. When does the embargo lift Pared?

Well I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it was CPU vs CPU, there were not human controlled team in that video. Glad you could see the potential in it. Just proves me right when I say Live 08 wasn't that bad!

I just have to say that regardless of what EA has or hasn't done in the recent past, they have really stepped up their game this past year. Like Pared said, NHL 08 was phenomenal, FIFA is great, Live is making strides and NCAA and Madden look to be great this year. I really think there isn't much room for bashing anymore. I mean all we can ask for is a yearly improvement, and we are getting that.

NBA Live has loads of potential if the animation department steps up. The game is going to sell regardless if its good or not, so reaching a new audience isnt the problem. The game should focus on hardcore bball players. The video looked ok, though.
