cause on nba live 09 sometimes the computer can shoot right in your face and there nothin you can do about it then sometimes people do layups and then allof a sudden you can go attempt a block or any thing.

It has already been stated that they have drastically improved the defensive game. We will have to see in the near future if they really did.

Did Live 09 have 'Lock-on' defense where you just hold a button and the ai does all the work for you? I completely hated this method in 2K9 and it made playing defense totally boring and unrewarding. Hopefully Live isn't like that at all. Let me control the defender please.

Live also has lock on D- most stupid addition to basketball games to date.

I think they need to sit down and study defensive rotations and then incorporate that into Live 10 once and for all.

The basic concept you are taught way back in elementary school is how to rotate on defense and bring help side defense. We are taught to cut off the baseline or use the baseline as an extra defender.

But in Live 09 unless you edit certain ratings defensively the CPU will just stand around and allow you to go baseline all game. Then you swing the ball and no one rotates defensively.

I'd love for them to study each teams tendencies and use them in the game defensively. Rick Carlisle usually switches to a 2/3 changeup zone in the 2nd QTR and to close out games for the Mavs. I want to see the Warriors using a change up zone because that is how Don Nelson has coached for years. It should be a code in the game that what ever team a specific coach is assigned to his coaching tendencies should follow him.

It's a shame a guy like Mike D'Antoni is on the Knicks sideline and yet the Knicks are playing like the Spurs or Rockets with no change in defensive philsophy or offensive game tempo by the CPU.

Good post Playmakers. Hopefully Mike or Stephen takes a look at this thread. I really hope there isn't Lock-on D for Live 10. There is absolutely no skill involved in holding down a button and watching the ai defend for you.

Yea I hate Lock on D, just just need to remove the suction defense and really fix the response time with controlling players.

You don't have to use Lock-On D in 2K9

It felt like you had to use it to be effective. If not you just end up sliding all over the place trying to stay in front of whoever your guarding.

I LIKED The on ball D in loie. You need to play the ballhandler's ball hand, and you need to know where to force the Ballhandler, and where the player's hot/cold/neutral zones are...as well as anticipate the change of direction


My biggest issue with the defense, is that I felt the offensive player got bailed out a little too much, when I had him stoned, and he just smacked into me, throwing something up

I had Lock-on D killed off very early in the 10 cycle. It made the game too stagnant and didn't require any skill to use.

Defensive Assist will still be in the game, but it's main function now is simply a "find your check" button when you get lost on defense. I find it still has some value in OTP where things can get a little hectic from time to time. On the higher skill levels though, relying on Def. Assist will get you burned if you mindlessly try to cruise control. We really want to encourage the user to take an active role in playing defense this year as we've spent a lot of time shoring up the weapons on the defensive end of the floor.

Personally, I find it just as enjoyable playing defense in Live 10 as playing offense, which is something I've never been able to say about any other hoops sim before. Sadly.

So no more zapping into players, and bumping them back behind the half court line?

I know 09 was flawed but still a great game to me, I'm glad to see you guys really working on updating the defense, I can't wait to see the improvements.
