Those kinds of things make the game more realistic.

If you're afraid that this game wont move like 2k then be disappointed now because that game moves almost too well to a fault when you're sliding into animations and into moves... there may not be a happy medium but i'd rather have the footplanting and go from there.
I agree with you that Live had a lot going for it and I liked the controls and footplanting, it just always felt to me like all the good stuff under the hood got lost because of the faulty animations and controls that weren't very responsive. I always felt if Live tightened up some of the smaller details, it would be really good which is why I think this years game will be awesome if they get it right.

Same here! I didn't have that feeling, Live 09 was a good game and played a great game of NBA basketball. Sure with more animations and tweaks to certain things it could have been better. But overall I loved it.

But from the looks of 10, I think all my prayers have been answered.

Another thing that worries me is lead passing. In 2K, you could always make a player come towards you, so you could lead him off a screen or make him come closer to the ball if you don't have an angle. You can't do that in Live, and it really hampers the experience.

Well this is a new year for live and many changes have been made. So that problem will probably not be a problem this year. You will find out soon for yourself.

I don't think controlling a player was the problem.. It was the unresponsive freestyle control that killed it for me. Im running at a defender full speed, hit the right analog and it doesn't register right away. I get stuck in hip check animation. At first I thought I was late doing it but the same thing happens after your move finishes.

So yea, there are some control issues that need to be cleaned up, but it mainly deals with the right analog control.

Live 09 was at times unplayable. Sucked you into animations, gave you almost no control. Live's gameplay mechanics were 'simple', not much variety to it. It felt better in 2k9 - had no problems with going past players using speed button only, without triggering some awful animation. Live's ball movement was good but passing was still sloppy, didn't feel crisp at all. I can say that owning both 2k gave me a better experience.

This is the NBA Live 07 E3 tech demo with a side by side (last gen vs current gen) video of footplanting.

That was a problem with the way they programmed the defense not the controls... that ride the shoulder animation was far too strong and thats why they took it out this year because it hindered fastbreaks and forward movement as you just explained.

I always thought Graphics and Presentation was the biggest problem with 09. When u play 2K, its makes you want it just bc of the beautiful presentation. Live just looked dead when u played it. Not exciting.

One thing I like about 2K is the unpopular players still look just like they did in real life. In Live, unpopular player look like anything. Like Marquise Daniels on Live 08. On 2K he has all of his tats and everything. On Live, it didnt look anything like him and he didnt have any tats. I hope Live 10 steps their game up bc I love Live's controls and I dont like 2K.
