Thanks for the response. I'm playing on All-Star. When I get back on later I'll look for more contact animations but I'm talking about the "driving for layups and then meeting contact" animation that seems to be the same every time.

The defense is still good, don't get me wrong, but I do feel cheated on a lot of possessions when my player has his hands to his side and the opposing player speeds by him.

For me, the game is sooooo close.

Ahh... I know what you're talking about Evan.

You can't body up on the players outside on the perimeter. The way the game is set up, that's just a matador defense and that's why you're getting burned.

You pretty much have to stay in front of your man and hope the contact kicks in. Focus on staying in front of your man. Remember, you can't "D UP" on guys because the contact just isn't there.

Just stay in front of him. I've held the CPU to low shooting affairs this way.

This game is amazing.. The detail on the faces, the movements, the ball fakes and options are sick. And you gotta love the look of the court and the music....EA finally stepped its game up.. I was a NBA 2K guy untill today...WOW...Kudos to EA!!!!

I'm surprised some people are still a little down on the on ball defense. I love it. I like the challenge I get knowing that one wrong mistake or misread, and my man has an open J or a lane to the basket.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I have been a 2k guy for the past few years, but this year I am pretty sure that will change. One thing I liked in the 2k series was how play art would show on the court when you ran plays. Is that in NBA Live 10? And is player lock in?

to be honest i just had a logn demo session (with it on all-star) and it has all of a sudden left a bad taste in my mouth

too many times does a calm half court set up begin with all my defenders on the wrong guys, even fisher is sometimes on dwight howard.

then there are times when it feel like you have no control of your defense, a lot of the time they will score very bad shots after you have done your best (and im talking fisher and bynum, not kobe as you expect him to do this)

even with all these great control mechanics, the game sometimes feels a little out of your hands in some instances.

also i dont know wwhat im doingwrong, but callignf or a pick is a total waste of time at the moment, i have tried hold it and letting go early, holding it for ages to make sure he stays there, but they never work as well as the ai manage against me.

a lot of this may sound like im just not that great at the game, and i freely admit i am not. but even bearing all the learning i have to do with this game, there is something in there that seems totally rough and random, and at the moment im just not seeing great sides of the game.

hope i play another day and it changes my mind, but it just feels so random at the moment.

Keep trying with the pick and roll. It has a slight learning curve.

As for the defenders guarding all the wrong men... I've seen that a good amount of times as well. I don't know how to recover. I think NBA 2k7 had the same exact problem.

Maybe try calling a zone, then a man defense.

This demo has peaked my interest, but yeah, the on ball defense is pretty lame in this game. That's one thing that is much better in 2k10. I like the fast break and defense way more in 2k10, but I like some of the little things like the way the players plant their feet for their shots and the way you use the LS and X to shoot.

There's 2 different windmills isn't there? Gotta keep one of them in. JRich and JSmoove use them in games + if there's any legends in the game I'm sure 'Nique is there.

Just stay in front of him. I've held the CPU to low shooting affairs this way.

You can body up on them on the perimeter Pared. You just gotta push the L stick in their direction and you'll body them up and slow down their progression and where there trying to go. You can't just football body them up 24/7 though, that's a foul. I love playing defense in this game, especially off ball cause you gotta be focused on the guy your guarding.

And Evans, theirs different in the paint shooting contact animations as well.

Yeah but it's not consistent. That's why I posted "hope the contact kicks in."

There are times when you go up to the ball handler and just run next to him for a bit. Sometimes the contact animation triggers faster than others.
