Re: After playing the demo, are you buying NBA Live on the release date?

I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up 'NBA Live 10' come the 6th of October. That's based off of playing the 'Live 10 Demo', as well as 'NBA 2K10: Draft Combine' and all of the media seen thus far of 'NBA 2K10'. I won't be making a definitive decision until I've played NBA 2K10, though.

One of the things I really love about Live 10, is that, you always need to have your full concentration on what you're doing, as you do when you're on the court in real life. I've found that in too many past basketball games, after maybe a couple of weeks depending on how much you play it, you pick up the controller, and it's almost as if you're going through the motions... but you are still successful. Live 10 feels as though it's going to stay challenging all year long, and if you aren't fully focused on what you're doing in the game, and making sure each maneuver you perform is the correct one, you're going to get blown out of the water.

Very impressed but I think I'm sticking with 2k for at least one more year.

It's getting there, but not quite "there" yet. Nice improvements the past two years.

Lol, I'm not 100% sure, but name me one person that walks right up to a ball handler and puts his "body" on him. Contact with the ball handler usually happen on the move, as in Live 10. I heard of crowding the ball handler. Now I'm not 100% sure on this so don't flame me if I'm completely wrong. It's just that when I picture A defender walking up to a ball handler and putting a body on him it seems silly and weird.

I can totally see it happening before the player gets the ball or before he has a chance to dribble. I think your just missing that lock on feeling you get from previous games when you crowd a player. Seeing as that is not in Live 10, sometimes it will feel like your just standing a foot away from the player with no intent on playing D. Like I said I'm not 100% sure if players do that or not, and I couldn't find any video proof of it. But I did find this video which proves my point, that contact only happens on the move.

Sorry if I don't make sense or my grammar is a little funny. I'm a little tired. Yeah, but I thought I would replay cause that logic just seemed silly to me. It's just when I picture it in my head I'm Like WTF. It reminds be of something that Busy B (Sunset Park) might do. Walk up to the player and just start making basketball love with him, lol. I think live does it right, so when you crowd the player you get hands moving more, and your player will get into more of a defensive stance.

Well sorry for the Long post, and I have a feeling that I might be a little off on this. But I'll be happy to be proven wrong, and now that I think of it. Some playoff defense on Jordan are probably what you was talking about. O' well I'm not deleting this. Took too much effort, lol.

Re: After playing the demo, are you buying NBA Live on the release date?

Why do the developers always respond to me! I guess it's a blessing and a curse...

I have nothing against LIVE, I just don't like the defense right now. I will still try the full game out, but right now there are things that really bug me.

What I mean by "bodying up someone is basically 'contesting' the play. All I want is some animation by my player that is telling me "OK, I see the defender and am aware of the situation."

As it is == he stands there pretty much like he would if he was 20 feet away. Just give me a hand to face or possibly he gets a little "lower" in a defensive stance if I start to get to close to the player. If I wan't to crowd the ball handler, I should have that right. A major part of defense isn't only reacting, but also being proactive and forcing a ball handler to go a certain way. I see it all the time when someone guards Lebron and is trying to keep him from going right... so they purposfully over play the right side. If he starts to go right, contact is made (possibly a blocking foul) and it's then up to the player's ball handling ability to get around the outside (assuming there isn't a double team or help coming).

Right now, that hole second part is skirted over a lot and the better player is giving a nice lane to the basket with no slowdown whatsoever. It makes you feel like "why am I playing defense!"

Examples of people bodying up on defense NOT in the post:

Basically just examples of animations that should occur if I get up on the ball handler. NBA LIVE would almost suffer from a lack of animations at this point on defense.

Re: After playing the demo, are you buying NBA Live on the release date?

^ I agree with that, and the risk to bodying up should be a potential foul call.

Personally I'm more concerned defensively with how to get in position for blocks and contests. I like controlling big men and playing defense 1on1 in the post or coming over to help and I still have to get a feel for how to do it in Live.

I'm not sure what problems people are having with rebounding though. I'm impressed with Live's rebounding right now. Each rebound looks clean and realistic unlike 2k9 where the rebounding is very sloppy and arcade-ish. I feel on the rebounds I don't get it's my fault for not establishing position. In 2k over the past few years it's almost as if position meant nothing.

On superstar the computer gets more offensive boards, but that's to be expected at the highest difficulty setting.

Re: After playing the demo, are you buying NBA Live on the release date?

On the ability of being able to body up the CPU while defending, I think it's sort of a catch-22 for EA Sports. I like how the defense is, but I definitely wouldn't oppose the ability to body up a stationary player with the ball, or a player say, closer to half court, if I choose to take that risk, knowing I will more than likely get dusted.

I think if they do make this available, though, and do it correctly by giving the offense the advantage (depending on the players involved), I think they will have just as many complaints about it as they do now, only in the form of "Whenever I get up on whoever has the ball, I get beat". Not because the system is made bad, but simply because people will try to abuse it and make it play defense for them, and it won't work.

I'd say just leave things the way they are.

                    i like defense,

it feels really intense trying to cover guys like kobe with carter, or lewis with gasol.

keeps things fresh and it feel more in control that 2k9 did in my opinion,

Will get live during the holidays when I'm on vacation.

But, would they have bodied up if the offensive player didn't turn his back to protect the ball? Maybe live just needs the option to protect the ball, and everybody might get what they need. Live does let you put your body on them if you play the angle right and know which way the player want's to go. I feel you about being more active when out on the perimeter. They do have a little bit of that, but as soon as you move your player they put their hands at their side. I do see where you're coming from though.

Maybe Live should have a defensive assist slider. For players who want to play the higher levels but want more of that "sticky" feel of previous games.

After a week of demo, I'm done with Live 10. Huge improvement, some facets of this game are extremely well implemented. Live 11 should be fantastic if they can fix a few issues...

Its definately an improvement thats for sure. But it still doesn't feel authentic to me. The animations are still a lil hitchy. The game is very good graphically but they don't seem real life, it looks more cartoonish. Which isn't bad don't get me wrong, if your into that. I won't be buying it at all though, might rent it.
