or...maybe i'll try it with Home: superstar, away: all-star, or Home: all star, away: pro.

Have you tried mixing it up like this before?

Im glad you figured this out. I wondered if people just weren't getting the concept.

I think there are quite a few people who haven't got the concept.

I get the concept but have found the application to be difficult. I suppose I've just learned to work around it and only expect one the two successful drives a game.

I'm going to go back to revisit my driving game, see if I can get it to click like ehh did.

(...after I've spend a little time with MW2 first :P)

Funny, maybe this is why I have so much more success going to the basket online than most of my opponents, I thought everyone knew this!

Without using turbo you won't get the hop step, step through, or spin moves before the layups. These basically give the offensive player the "animation advantage" as I like to call it, resulting in more made shots and FTs, and like you said, less "bad contact animations".

I find I use turbo less if I have an open lane, since you get a different set of layup animations without it and I like to mix it up.

Another thing that may help your game: On many of the layup solution animations, you can pass out of the initial move animation before it goes into the actual layup. So if you choose to go right at the basket and you get one of the spin layup solutions you can pass right after the spin, before they initiate the layup. I've had some truly spectacular plays using this, with CP3 spinning or hopstepping into the lane before kicking out to an open shooter as the defense collapses.

          Good thread.

lol, co-sign! i thought everyone knew this also. you're gonna see alot of new animations now. you'll feel ore control over what is going on. be able to setup youre teammates with drive and dish once you start blowing by defenders, the rotation comes your way and using freestyle passing. this was a very overlooked feature. tis is way i've got such high praise for this years game...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

True enough people didnt catch this early on

I cant tell you how many times the Mike Wang vid was referenced to people

That said, this just shows the limitations in animations. Everything is not some mid air collision on a drive.

You dont get charges taken or blocks other than a blue moon trying to dribble past a guy. This game needs alot of contextual animations badly around the rim other than just this.

Although you do see those fouls which occur off of the same bumps over and over, its still not balanced right... One thing that stops your runs is the CPU doing something like this to you, or you as the defender get sucked into that canimation if you remotely think about contesting a shot.

Aww the secret is out now! lol

Yeah I experimented with this last week and ended up going to the line 44 times in a total 8 min quarter game.

Good thread and points, not to brag or anything but I figured out how to drive and take layups quite early with this game. Being a 2K player previously I was quite used to using the shot stick to take layups with either the left or right hand depending on situation.. Live works in exactly the same way except its the left stick decides how the player will take the shot, and the shot has to be triggered with the shoot button. The trick is to get a lane to the basket, use turbo and make sure you use the correct hand in order to keep the ball away from the D. Its really important not to just go charging in and hold the shoot and turbo button pointing towards the basket.. look at where the defence is and try to shoot around them.

Probably why I didnt see many of these problems people were complaining of and was a bit bemused by them.. you just have to try and avoid the contact in this game.. its easy to do once you get used to pressing the right cominations in order to get your shot off properly.

Yup, you hit the nail on the head basically. A lot of people that play this game always try to force the contact, when really you should be trying to avoid it. Whenever you try to avoid it, more times than not, the defender that initiates the contact gets called for the foul.

Very true...I noticed that although I was used to using turbo when driving, I was always pushing the L stick towards the rim because that is the direction to get to the basket...now I have to break the habit...

the only thing that really is annoying about the layup solutions, is that ever since they implemented the right click to trigger a post up..if you happen to slip and rub one of your fingers or thumb on the stick, you'll end up in a dang backdown animation, now and then.
