Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
My next purchase will be an NBA game, so right now, I am just trying to decide on which one to get. I am loving NCAA 10 right now, and I know Live 10's gameplay is similar. I am of a dying breed in that I am strictly a single player offline dynasty guy (I don't play online at all). I was just wondering if NBA Live 10's dynasty mode is deep enough and immersive enough to keep my interest. If not, I may just go back to NBA2k10 which I enjoyed pretty much before I traded it in for NCAA 10. The only thing with 2k is that I like the on court gameplay much better in EA games now.
Does the dynasty mode in Live do enough to hold your interest?"Basketball is my favorite sport
I like the way they dribble up and down the court
Just like I'm the King on the microphone so is Dr. J and Moses Malone"Tags: None -
Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
I've come from playing 2K to Live this year. I have played a bit of online but I spent almost all of my time on the offline game.
I dont think the Dynasty mode as weak as advertised. Its certainly not as detailed as 2K's association but its not terrible.
My major complaints would be the rotation system.. it just doesnt work. This needs to be completely overhauled and EA need to basically rip off 2K's system for handling it. My advice would be to turn off auto subs and manage the rotation yourself. The in game sub controls are generally quite good which helps.
The other complaint would be simulation stats. Although not as bad as I expected, some of the top players dont put up the numbers they should do and you get some wierd scoring games from time to time.
Some other smaller things.. like you cant play any less than a 82 game season and the player contracts and cap is not modelled as in depth as 2K's game.
The plus points though:
Although the sim stats might be off, your teams stats will be realistic due to the good gameplay. You can play 12 minute quarters and get realistic stats and fg% for everyone on your team.
I like the training sessions in the gym, gives you a good opportunity to practice with your players, get used to their shots and learn how to use them without any pressure.
The team chemisty thing is good, it includes how players get on with eachother.. how they like playing in your city and lots of other factors affecting how happy they are with their situation.
I enjoy playing it, 2K's does have deeper mode but Live's is not terrible. For me I prefer having the in game play and my team's stats realistic over having all the presentation, detail and bells and whistles of 2K.. which imo is undone by having teams shoot silly fg% and get generaly unrealistic stats due to problems with the gameplay itself.
I would recomend giving Dynamic season a go, you cant do all the trading and team building of Dynasty or Association but its a really good mode in its own right.Last edited by UK_Bullsfan; 01-15-2010, 10:39 AM. -
Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
I only play offline and Dynamic Season is great for me. Only have to be online to load the game up. I came up with specific goals. Getting the Clips,Thunder and Knicks in the playoffs and keeping the Spurs out. Raptors too if they need it but they haven't really.Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
Haven't started one yet waiting for the trade deadline to make a run with, and also i don't know why but i can't just pick one of the teams, i play with almost all of them so i probably gonna made my mind till then mostly i'll take one of the underdogs for dynasty anyway
But dynamic season is pretty fun to get along with anytime you want but don't expect much out of live dynasty as it's pretty unbalanced from one to another mostly and not deep as the competition offers however the competition is pretty messed up with theirs, too with the last title update.Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
I'll admit when i first started the Dynasty it did seem a little repetative and boring, nothing much going on news-wise etc. not many features to play around with but by the time you get into December you get player awards, power rankings etc. I think the rookie workouts, scouting and drafting system.. and the free agency are a nice touch. To be fair i maybe a tad biased but its a million times better then "the other game's" Association/dynasty mode. The other game has the stupidest cpu trading logic i've seen in any sports game. NBA Live 10 franchise mode: 9/10, 2k10's crappy non-sensical bugged up franchise mode: 2/10 (if it wasnt for the amount of features i would quite happily score 2k10: 0/10) the cpu trade logic in 2k is such a massive, huge, gigantic screw up!!!!Last edited by FragrantDogsnob; 01-22-2010, 04:11 AM.Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
Guys how does DNA work in Dynasty? I tried starting one this week but the CPU were playing like absolute morons, jacking up fade away 3's with 15 seconds on the shot clock and generally not bothering to actually run an offense. They would just dribble down the court, pass once or twice and then shoot a contested jumper. I was playing against the Spurs, so I expected Duncan to be lethal. But they never gave him the ball.
Is this a DNA issue or just the general state of this game in single player?Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
I have a quick question on this issue. Had chance to play the game and I like it alot. One thing I love about 2K10 is the presentation and commentary during a season. The announcers will mention your performance in a previous game and they flash upcoming games you don't want to miss and your teams upcoming schedule. Does Live do any of this?
Just makes it feel like a real TV game in a real season.Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
I'm also strictly offline, dynasty type. Live's not bad, but off court I still feel 2k's association customizability and interface are much better. Which sucks b/c 2k's association options and interface hold me over, but a lot of times oncourt I'd rather be playing Live. Just off top of my head, if they can get this stuff done I'd be more inclined to stick to Live :
-tune sim engine (iminurbase already mentioned this being rewritten)
-fix player rotation interface, just not a fan of not being able to assign actual minutes
-editable draft classes, still good amount of weird looking rookies
-not huge priority, but i'd like the team/player options in contractsComment

Dynamic DNA has absolutely nothing to do with your dynasty's, it's purely for Dynamic season mode only.Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
Cheers for the response. That is a real shame concerning single player gameplay. I adore the response of the controls and the all around smoothness in Live's gameplay but if the CPU play like idiots I just can't enjoy it.Comment

Re: Offline Dynasty mode: your review please
I just sold my copy of the other game and was thinking of switching to Live. I remember reading a long time ago that Live doesn't have in game injuries at all. Did they ever fix that in a patch?Comment
