Re: Ask the devs : Physics
So far, blocking hasn't been addressed too much but is it possible for someone to get stuffed while attempting a dunk? I know this may be a problem due to the removal of two player animations. I was just wondering because sometimes when blocking a dunk there is a struggle (contact) in which the defender overall wins sending the dunker stumbling back (prime examples would be many of Alonzo Mourning blocks). Can this be seen in the game or is it just a clean block so the ball always flies loose and the offensive player continues his animation at the rim?Comment

Just going back through this thread, I wonder what the guy working on injuries even did when there is nothing new there in Elite.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
After seeing that new putback dunk video I can appreciate more how the game handles the collisions in a game sense. IMO it was a good no-call and I LOVE that we can interrupt dunks/layups/putbacks like that with proper positioning.
However, I dont think it looked very good to the visual eye. It's probably too late for Elite, but are there plans to make the collisions look better in Elite 12/13? Again I can appreciate the collision happening, but looking at the clip Okafor and Prince dont actually make contact on the play...they kinda had a forcefield effect. Not like the forcefields in 2k/Live games, but they still didnt make full body contact. Is that something that is going to be worked out next year? Or is it a limitation of the ANT system that would cause too much clipping?NBA 2K11 Community Site Mix

Like I said in previous posts, in collision situations we aren't doing any collision detection or response on the limbs, except on blocks and steals. After seeing that new putback dunk video I can appreciate more how the game handles the collisions in a game sense. The physics is being run on the chest, shoulders and hips.
So in the video I'm pretty sure there is contact (I haven't watched it again since reading your post bit the other 3 times I watched it I saw contact).
I think why you still see a "force field" which is different is because the limbs aren't being altered so they don't necessarily match the physics on the other body parts.
That is something I'd like to add in the future, but this year was about getting that foundation in place and we succeeded. Everything about the physics collision system that impacts gameplay is in this year, and that's the trickiest part to get right.
I'd like to see us pretty it up in future iterations, but I'm very happy with the core that we've built, and it really makes for a better gameplay experience.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
I can definitely understand that, I guess I'm just spoiled by Backbreaker and unfairly using it as a comparison.
Ah well, more time playing less time replaying, I can surely live with that as long as the game plays as organic for me as I've seen.NBA 2K11 Community Site Mix

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Yeah, it seems a lot of people are using that as a comparison point.
Glad to hear you appreciate what we're doing.
Thanks.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
If your dribbling into the defender is it going to bounce off him if your forcing it?Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
Yes, if you don't protect the ball (ie dribble with the wrong hand based on which direction you're moving) and run into a defender the ball will get knocked loose.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : Physics
The net moves even before the ball gets to the rim.
This was a well-known issue from day one and it STILL has NOT been fixed.
Please let us know when this problem will be fixed.
I've added the evidence below (so check out the vid between 0:40-0:46)
