I understand, I just feel like if we as the player controlling LeBron are good at getting chasedown blocks just like he is (i.e., timing and whatnot), the physics engine plus LeBron's physical capabilities in the game should allow us to replicate the way he blocks players from behind in transition. That will be the case, right?

Also, how will momentum and vertical leap ability tie into the game? If I'm running full speed with LeBron and I go for that chasedown block, will he jump farther (not higher, farther) depending on how fast I'm running?

You will be responsible for the timing, but yes. You should be able to replicate chasedown blocks that are similar to what LeBron does.

Momentum does play into is, as does agility. So if you are running fist you will jump farther, but if you have to quickly pull up for a shorter jump, them agility should play a factor as well.

How has the game changed in regards to the stronger and more physical players like Artest on D, Shaq or Dwight in the post, and LBJ driving down the lane?

Will we be able to take advantage of their strength this year? One thing I hated about last year was how easily guys could be pushed around by the defense due to the canned animations.

I would love to be able to put my head down in charge the lane with these guys. But on the other hand I also wanted to know if their strength IS taken into account will more charges/blocking calls be used on them too?

Strength will definitely play a role. It will affect the post battle, and how easy it is to push your opponent towards or away from the net.

When dunking, shooting or going for a layup, your strength will determine how the in air collision resolves itself.

As for take charge vs. blocking, this will depend primarily on the user's timing and positioning on defense.

I had a question about physics and fouls. In a situation like the chasedown block that is being discussed in the thread, how will the game determine if a foul has occurred? Is there a threshold of contact that is acceptable before fouls are called? In live last year, there were "foul animations" that caused a dice roll that then determined if there was a foul or not. How is that changing with RTP?

You pretty much nailed it. There will be a threshold of contact (how much contact was made, how severe was the contact, etc).

That will determine if you are called for a foul or not.

There are no longer any foul animations. Everything is dynamic.

When you steal, you swipe your hand at the ball. If you miss time it or are in a bad position and your hand hits your opponent, it will be a foul.

Similarly for in air contact on blocks. The severity of the collision determines if there is a foul or not.

The animations respond to the physics, and the foul calls are made completely independently of that. The collisions affect the foul call, not the other way around.

can we still block a shot after the whistle has blown to prevent an AND 1? and risk a chance at goaltending for that matter...

I'm not aware of anything that would stop this right now, but I'll have to double check.

Hm...then this raises an interesting possibility. We all saw game 7 of Lakers-Celtics. They let a LOT of calls go and let players play. What was a foul December 7th wasn't a foul June 7th.

Will refs call games in the playoffs differently? Or even at the end of games for buzzer beaters? Or how about some superstar favoritism where contact on Durant is called differently than contact on Devin Brown?

Hell. I could even imagine some kind of flopping mechanic so I can have Derek Fisher play as true to life as possible.

The take charge button basically is a flop button. If you are holding that button down and contact is made, you will flop to the ground. It's then up to the referee logic to call a charge/block or let play continue.

It adds more skill and risk.reward balance for take charge.

Your question about referee tolerance is a good one. I don't think we've added that but I'll make a note. Could add an interesting dynamic.

I think Eman5805's idea on referee tolerance /Favoritism is a really good idea. If it was possible to have that incorporated in the game this year, it would really make a nice addition. The fact that a referee's calls differentiate from regular to playoffs would be cool to see.

The guy who owns the post whistle reactions on the team was reading the thread and just emailed me. He thinks it may be possible to get in, but we need to discuss it with a few other people before we can make a final decision.

Question - If we're running full speed on defense and take off too close to the hoop could the player hit his head against the backboard? Or would he clip through the background?
