Even so, they give options to edit....which is why there is a thread with over 300 replies of people changing those types things to their liking...you cant argue w\ options....so yes that large library adds a large amount of signature style to the game...

With that being said, this isnt a 2k vs Live debate....What 2k has in their game has no effect on anything when I put Live in the XBOX, thats why I didnt mention it in my initial post. Your right though, this isnt the 1960's, the game has evolved....so I would like to see more than generic layups, post moves etc..that look like they were from that time as well..lol...
With the exception of lay-ups and post moves, Elite rivals 2K in the quality (not quantity) of signature animations.
Live 10 gives you the option to edit animation packages for each player as well. So if you’re worried about Elite being generic you can make your own edits.

Yes, it would be nice to see Rondo do his signature lay-up fake, but I’d rather have the ability to choose which hand to finish with. Adding such moves while still allowing hands-on control would have taken a lot of time to get right; time they didn’t have. They’ll be able to add that stuff for next year’s game.

Signature animations are important, but properly functioning gameplay is even more important. You can’t fault them for focusing on gameplay mechanics. They are adding real-time physics for the first time ever in a basketball video game. They are going to be lacking in some areas. But this is a move for the future. It’s not the end all be all. They may not get your $60 this year, but that’s not their ultimate goal. They have a multi-year plan to build a product that will deserve that $60 in a couple of years. That’s all you can ask of a company that’s put out a sub-par game for the past five years.

I think this game will have moments of brilliance combined with just as many WTF moments and bugs.

I think they are building towards next year and polish will come with time but right now they are trying to focus on fixing the core gameplay and implementing a system that could eventually translate into the best basketball games we have ever seen.

I'll gladly admit it if i'm wrong and will be along for the ride (i've already pre-ordered both bball games) but it think this will be fun to play and quite different but severely laking in the polish and signature style of the opposition.
Exactly. They're spending the time on the most important aspect. And they'll polish it and add the extras next year.

2K may have tons more player-specific animations, but you can hardly call half of them signature animations. Yes they do a great job of replicating signature lay-ups, dunks and free-throw routines. However, all dribbling moves are generic. Players have different assigned moves, but they are all generic. Derrick Rose dribbles differently from Steve Nash, but neither dribbles like their real life counterpart. And the majority of players' jumpshots look nothing like real life. Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, and Terrence Williams all have duplicates of Andre Iguodala's shot. Compare their real shots to each other and it's night and day. Additionally 75% of the jumpshots in 2K10 were set shots. This isn't the 1960s.

2K may be setting the bar for signature animations, but the majority of their signature animations are generic or poorly replicated. They just have a larger library.
thank you for stating this fact. NBA 2K has a larger pool of animations to draw from; broken down into different player styles, positions and so forth. you see this when you create players. this is one of the major pluses they had over live. play live for a month and things get a little repetitive. 2K also did post patch patching to keep things fresh. but all in all the moves are generic they are just assigned really well.

I don't want to sound negative, but that was stated last year too. I wonder what will happen if Elite doesn't sell well. Will all resources be put on gameplay changes again? I'm sure that all the engineers have great ideas on how the game should evolve, but ultimately it's management that decides (based on the revenue).

What's wrong with what I said? The signature animations in Live 10 are of just as high quality as 2K10. That's with the exception of lay-ups and post moves.

Let's look at LeBron for example. Live 10 has his signature jumpshot, step-back jumpshots in both directions, fade-away, dunks and size-up dribble. They all look like LeBron's real moves. 2K10 has his signature jumpshot, post fade-aways, and dunks. Everything else is generic, plus his jumpshot isn't very accurate.

That's true, and plans can change fast. They claim to be using the FIFA and NHL series as benchmarks for success. Both titles took multiple years to rebuild their games. Additionally they mentioned they weren't starting from scratch but building upon what they had in Live 10. It's hard to tell if their plans will be the same in a year's time though.

animations-i'd say 2k has more of a variety, but the sig shots look MUCH better on Live.

Ok, this topic seems more revelant then when I made it about a month ago...Now that we've seen a couple of videos (thanks OS!) I am really concerned with overall authenticity of this game...Every thing looks so dang generic!! Sigh

Yeah. The game looks DRY!!!!! It looks outdated about 4-5 years to be honest. We'll just have to see what's up when the demo drops.
