that said - good vid, too dunk happy for my taste, but thats a measure of the gamers more than anything else imo.. rtp kicks in where it needs to (not very elegantly though) and the ball does seem very 'live'

good showcase of the fast breaking heat vs the half court magic.. P&Rs still look to open up gaping holes in the defence.

one thing that jumped out me though, there was a point where lebron was leading the pack on the fast break.. and howard was the closest defender chasing back.. howard seem to match lebron for speed all the way till a block animation stopped him stone cold.. six feet from the rim.. D12's straight line speed is the same as lebron's ? and i wish the block animation that he so suddenly jumped into was more contextual - a block from behind, keeping his forward motion in play..

all said though - live/elite's stock is rising. anyone know when the demo drops ?
What is unclear from the video is if Howard jumping straight up was a poor animation or if the user did not continue to press toward the rim when he jumped...if it is the latter I would still think there should be some momentum toward the rim based upon how fast Howard was running...

Simulation is the imitation of something real.

And this does not look like that.

Everything from movement, physics, and more importantly, the fundamentals of the sport, in which I rarely see in a EA Sports game.

so pick and role, iso and fastbreaks aren't sim enough for u lol// u can do the same thing in both games // depending on how u play // weather u call plays, call picks, or just break ur man down off the dribble to finish or drive and kick // its all sim because thats what nba players do//

Duhwight was essentially a non-factor in terms of protecting the rim. So far the only thing resembling defense in the paint is if you get a mid-air collision (and somehow a foul is not called).

It will be interesting to see how slider tweaking and difficulty level will affect this sort of thing.
The user defender sagged off of the ball handler the whole time so I wonder if you had the defender go for steals during the crazy dribbling if you could get some and therefore get the ball handler to tone it down a bit...yes going for steals would get you burned once in awhile but just a thought...

Sim for me is OVERALL gameplay...player movement and how that plays out in conjunction with animation and real life tenancies. Its hard to even take this game seriously when you see how the players move...So from the git go the player movement does not get the onlooker into a "sim state of mind".

This game IMO pretty much follows the EA business model as something easy to play for the casual consumer and marketed to the masses as opposed to the hardcore sim audience...I've said for a long time that EA is the McDonalds of the videogame industry. They are good business folks and that comes before innovation. They are about selling units and all of the other talk about "sim" from any EA person's mouth is nothing more than RHETORIC. They hit us with a couple snazzy slogans every year to hype us up then its pretty much maybe a step forward here and there followed by 4-5 steps back. After this year EA won't be in the basketball business for long other than NBA Jam or something like that...Just my opinion.

you obviously dont get it. If you could do all of that stuff lets say in NBA Street homecourt, would you call it SIM?

The look of a game will not determine if its sim and thats all a lot of people here care about. The NBA Inside drive series was one of the best sim games ever made but the animations was ugly.

Once again, I have to admit that seeing the vids through broadcast cam really, really helps....but I still cannot get over the defensive stance deally. I ranted a bit about it last night (umm, blame it on the ah, ah-ah-ah...) but to be more precise about what I think is needed is that when a defender is in that low defensive stance, his lateral movement is dependent upon multiple things such as what the offensive player is doing his quickness, movement, yada as well as defensive player's own defensive prowess, quickness, lateral movement and length. Staying in that low defensive stance only lasts for so long if the offensive player decides to make quick moves and such.

So, basically, what is needed are body turning animations of the defensive player coming out of that stance and turning to run a long with the offensive player. Many a time, the defensive player is running sideways on an angle along with the offensive player with the off hand extended outward/upward to defend against a pass/shot . That has been SORELY needed in the Live/Elite series and is still not present in this Elite 11 game.
Same thing with offensive players staying in that low dribble stance for far too long. Erks the hell out of me.

Again, EA (reEAnimator, if you are reading), those types of things go a long way in lessening the robotic look of the players..

Also, the RTP are still not present to me. There was a dunk in this vid where two defenders were posterized with contact but the physical reaction was just not there. These dudes should have gone flying somewhere. Instead, just looks like they just landed on dimes as if nothing happened. Momentum is something that this game is definitely needing if the 2p animations are gone, now. Somehow that has to be incorporated with RTP.

All in all, it reminds of the Live series which I have been somewhat used to for the last few years. I really want to get a feel of this game with the controls. It may not be so bad plus this vid looks fast but it was already explained why. The last vid posted up here looked a bit slower which was good.
Just cuz you pour syrup on ish....

you can't simulate real life if the visuals don't add up. if it doesn't look like real basketball, you lost at square one. you're just controlling a bunch of nonsense

That's what I was getting at with my question...to me, "simulation" means realistic stats for the most part...a game can have great animations, physics and shoes but if the stats don't come out right (vs CPU at least) then it's not "sim" to me...of course it's best to have great visuals AND realistic stats but if I can only have one I take realistic stats...that's why I say a lot of people use the word "sim" but they are not all talking about the same thing...

I'm not saying that this game will be "sim" either - I'm just defining it for myself here...it's like when you don't want to play a game so you "simulate" it for the results...that's "sim" to me...

I'm tired of these 101 intro to dunking videos. I want to see some boring cpu vs cpu gameplay. I want to see if the cpu play realistic. Or as i stated before give me teams w/ contrasting styles, some Spurs vs. Suns. If the user has to be in the video, take control of the slower paced team. Until the developers release something like this, the "arcade" comments will always be around. And also those comments about, "its how the user plays" determines it same will play sim or not. Well if that's case, i don't its smart for the developers to release videos playing the way they are. B/C one thing the video are not screaming is "Simulation".

I think this game is going to end up being a exploiters paradise. Very little D, and just weird movements from RTP. While it looks okay in places, the genericiticies are profound all throughout this vid.

Will edit.. after reviewing vid a few times.
